Very nice surprise In Kansas City found this little Italian restaurant and managed to get seats at the bar after a short wait and it was so worth it. Let's start with everyone around me recommending the Italian butter. It was exactly that butter with parsley and tons and tons of garlic and olive oil. You will spoon it, dip it onto bread or like me you may just put on everything you can find or drink it straight from the bowl it came in. The restaurant had a great selection of spirits for all kinds of drinks and an excellent wine menu and plenty of desserts to choose from. I had the angel pomodoro pasta it was perfectly cooked. The pomodoro was on a point plenty of fresh tomatoes and just the right serving I paired that with an excellent recommended wine I wish I had gotten the name of the wine but I will be back. What I loved with sitting at the bar is that you are sitting in the kitchen a little kitchen that cooked some excellent food. Just looking at the photos I took make me want to go back there and I will before I leave Kansas City this week.

Visited here with my sisters and MIL while out visiting them in Weston, MO. They picked this restaurant because it was in an area they wanted to bring me to so I can see this cute part of Kansas City and to see the Christmas lights. We had reservations at 5:30pm on a Wednesday and when we pulled up to the restaurant, the parking spots were filled already. Please arrive a bit early to find a parking spot if you go at this time or later. It did get more crowded as the night progressed. The front of the restaurant didn't look like much and neither did the entrance, which was a door with a curtain a few feet past the door, which opened into the bar and around the corner, the restaurant. Here's a simple review of our experience: Ambience: Intimate setting with linen napkins & tablecloths, eclectic artwork a few seasonal decorations/lights and soft music. Great vibe for gathering of friends for dinner and holiday parties. Food: Appetizers: 1- Stuffed artichoke-cooked perfectly with deliciously seasoned garlicy, buttered breadcrumbs. We chose no meat on this one. I highly recommend this! 2-Italian Butter: A MUST!!! One of the best garlic olive oils I've had. It was served warm with TONS of garlic. It was a hefty serving and it was enough for the four of us to eat it with the loaf of bread that was served with it. We had leftovers even after eating so much during our evening. Wine: We had a bottle of Chianti which was good, but a little on the sweet side. Be sure to taste it before buying an entire bottle Entrees: 1-Eggplant Parmigana: My MIL had this and she said it was very good. The sauce was great and the eggplant was cooked crispy and perfect. 2-Chicken Spiedini Julian: Two of us had this and we were not disappointed. The breaded chicken was charbroiled perfectly and the filling of artichokes and the scrumptious fettuccine Alfredo was over-the-top AMAZING! It truly was one of the best Italian dishes I've ever had. I am still dreaming about the next time I visit to order this again

Elizabeth and her crew went above and beyond! As a wedding planner, we work with many different companies Around town. Carmen‘s café was easy to work with, fun to be around and staff was on top of everything all through the night! On top of all that, the food was delicious and they even separated, a gluten-free option for the guests with allergies on a separate table. I can’t wait to work with them again!

Visited this establishment for the first time. Our party was seated relatively quick for the size of our group. The waiter (Sean) was very attentive making many passes by our group to check on our status and make sure we had everything we needed. The timing of our order from salad to entree was very good. Carmen's Cafe likes garlic however done tastefully, just keep a mint on hand post meal. Service was excellent but would have really enjoyed garlic bread of some type with my meal. All meals received good reviews all around the table. Portion size was good as well, everyone had a little to take home.

Surprised I've not reviewed Carmen's sooner, my family goes here often for celebrations. Carmen's does a great job of putting up with all of us! Their food as been some of our fave Italian in KC for a couple of decades. It's not the most ideal place to eat in a pandemic, and definitely not recommended if you have accessibility issues. Service this time around was great as usual. We went on a Sunday evening and enjoyed 50% off bottled wine under $50. The bread service is excellent and should not be passed up. I pretty much always get chicken parmesan. My niece had lobster ravioli and it was sincerely amazing. Parking is street parking. Everyone was respecting masking guidelines due to the pandemic right now.

I wish there were 6 stars. I was impressed with everything but specifically the fine details. Not a hair out of line in this place. Great service, sauces loaded with flavor, perfect italian atmosphere. Very small and cozy. 10/10 reccomend. Bring the special people in your life here and really give them a treat. They will remember it for years. Don't leave without a pistachio tort!

All about the Spedieni. Capital S. It deserves to be a proper noun it is so good. Tender and juicy, it is like heaven...if heaven were rubbed with garlic and butter and breaded. Choose the sauce of your choice...I have had them all and you cannot go wrong. Simple = Carmela. Briney = Beatriz. Creamy and cheesy = Julian. Or step it up and have it Oscar. Those scallops are perfectly done. There are a few places that are MUSTS when we drive through or stay in KC and Carmen's is one of them. The staff are so polite and relaxed and the atmosphere a perfect blend of classy and comfortable, it feels like the kind of restaurant you can take your time at. Sit back. Talk with your family and friends. Don't rush. Enjoy the food and company. That's what dining should be and is at Carmen's

Went for our anniversary. Seated quickly with our reservation. We started with the meatballs appetizer and fried mozzarella. Meatballs had 3 and that was wonderful. Tasty sauce and great taste on them. The mozzarella was good. Nothing special but we enjoyed. Son had the recommendation of our server and had the sample of spedini. 3 different ones with 3 sauces. He enjoyed each of them. I had the rigatoni with peas, prosciutto with vodka sauce. Very good. Wife had pasta with broccoli and creamy tomato sauce. She added the Italian sausage to it. She enjoyed it. The most important part of any pasta meal is the cooking of the pasta and all 3 of ours was perfect. We had a bottle of chianti wine. Ended dinner with pistachio torte and spumoni ice cream. The torte was amazing and light. The ice cream was good. All in all we enjoyed.
