The flavors were phenomenal! However, the portion size was just not enough to be filling. The service was great, the ambiance was great, but something was lacking... and in this location EVERYTHING has to be perfectly perfect. I enjoyed my meal, but I don’t think I would return.
THE FOOD
Café Azur opened 5 months ago on the corner of Montrose and Richmond. In the former dwellings of Max & Julie Brasserie . Even though they've only been open a short while, I've heard nothing but great things about their French brunch items. Specifically the Crêpe Suzette! So when I received an invitation to try a few items from their newly launched lunch menu.
Favorites:
Salmon Gravlax
California Purslane
The Salmon Tartine
*Beef Burgundy (also know as Beef bourguignon) is a well-known, traditional French recipe. Beef Burgundy is a stew prepared with beef braised in red wine - Burgundy traditionally. At Café Azur the braised beef rests on a bed of mashed potatoes, fingerling potatoes, chips and gremolata. It's one of the heartier lunch options on the menu.
THE SWEETS
Crème brûlée
Pistachio White Chocolate Cake
I traveled to “France” for lunch recently and I am back just in time to share my experience with you! By France, I mean Cafe Azur, Houston’s latest and greatest French restaurant. Since opening last fall, Cafe Azur has been delighting Montrose visitors with their beautiful patio, brunch and dinner menus. Here recently, they expanded their offerings to include lunch. I took a break from my real paying job for a nice lunch with fellow bloggers where we experienced the French Riviera!
The old Max & Julies was taken over by Azur. The atmosphere is nice, but if the weather is good,... ask for a patio table. We had dinner outside on the patio, and it was very romantic. Service was 5 stars, our waiter was prompt and very helpful. The food was really good to my surprise. We had muscles and steak tartare for an appetizer, they were both fantastic. We also ordered some chickpeas fries, it was recommended by our waiter. Wowwwwww!! It was my favorite dish,... Amazing!! Dinner was duck and fresh vegetables,... it was seasoned well and at the perfect temperature! I would definitely recommend this place! Thank you.
This place is great for brunch. There cocktail menu is amazing. I would highly recommend there Lemon drop martini. The salmon salad is very good. The salmon tastes fresh and the veggies super crisp. The service is very good, and the decor is nice.
The food was amazing. The perfect egg is incomparable. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable (we had to ask a lot of questions because of unfamiliarity). And we don't drink but the wine was very much enjoyed by the rest of the company. Somewhat expensive but that's to be expected with such high quality food.
I had never been to Cafe Azur but wanted a French restaurant with a good atmosphere for my birthday dinner. We booked a large party reservation on a leap of faith. This place completely exceeded our expectations. The GM was extremely hospitable and flexible in helping us coordinate our party down to every last detail. The upstairs was reserved for us and all set up by the time we arrived and the service was excellent. The food was divine, I've had lobster ravioli in Paris and Cafe Azur's lobster ravioli was just as delicious. I was shocked! The chef brought me a gorgeous dessert with my name written in chocolate and the GM even gave me a handwritten birthday card. I would highly recommend this place, as they had the best service I've had in Houston but also really made the extra effort to make my birthday special. The food and drinks were also excellent. This is a fabulous restaurant and I'd highly recommend it for a special event.
Went here for our one year wedding anniversary and it was perfect. Such a unique experience and the food was out of this world!!!! If the season is right, the outdoor balcony is amazing at night. We will certainly be coming back! Don't forget to order desert, the presentation is impressive!!!
We had our company holiday party here last night and it was absolutely fabulous. The food was spectacular, the service was amazing and the venue is stunning. Christina went above and beyond, as did our servers. I highly recommend the perfect egg and the duck.
The food was very tasty and well presented. We went on Mother's Day so the menu was limited. The tab was pretty high for this special day. The only gripe was they charged for the plain French Bread for the table. We will try some other day, but right now I am not ready to go back any time too soon even though I gave them a 4 star.
Could not recommend this lovely cafe enough. We visited for my brother's birthday and had an EXCELLENT experience. We indulged in dessert, cocktails, and a very reasonably priced bottle of wine...divine!! Loved the ambience and friendly service.
Excellent in all dimensions. The perfect egg is amazing in flavour, aroma, palate and consistency. The linguine really truffled (see pics) and top with another perfectly paired egg. The duck, medium rare, is juicy, tasty, along with a crispy balance of skin. Will come back again... and again. Friendly service too.
A very welcome replacement to Brasserie Max and Julie, the new owners have imported the wonderful feeling and culture from the Cote d'Azur to create a light and airy but very "foody" atmosphere. The four of us tried the special menu for Mothers Day and relished the well considered flavors and combinations. The "perfect egg" starter was a big hit. Service was friendly and attentive. The chef's wife is the restaurant manager and was keen to hear about our experience. "Bon Chance" to Cafe Azur.
