Amazed that this does not get higher maarks for those who know Japanese foods nonbei is near the tops in honolulu mostly the clientel is expatriate so isuspect some locals don't like that whatevers
We were excited to get the parking spot for our dinner reservation. They assigned a table very closed to its entry doorway while the whole restaurant has so many opening tables. Rushing to order. Rush to check out. We don’t see the waiting lineup anywhere 😰
One thing is good is the young lady ( must be the owner’s daughter or so) was nice to help out change the seating for us. English is good 👍 too.
If you’re looking for a great izakaya look no further. Nonbei has become our “go to” spot for delicious food, cold beers and sake, and great service. Be sure to order one of the fresh sashimi sets to start, then some nigiri sushi followed by anything on the menu. It’s all good and depends what you’re in the mood for. The kakuni, chicken, butterfish, fried flounder, beef tongue, agedashi tofu, chawanmushi, tempura, sautéed mushrooms and eggplant, and gyoza are just some of our favorites. If you have room for dessert, the yuzu sorbet is a must, as is the kinako warabi. Plenty of free parking in front of the restaurant or in the private overflow lot a little up the street. Enjoy! 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
This place is awesome....foor is really good, especially the sashimi platter....taste fresh and prix fixe tasting menu is good.....price is high but the quality and taste is worth it....parking can be little tricky but the have a overflow....
The food was good and service was very quick too. We had the C course, tori kara, natto (depends on personal preference, I personally like it), chawanmushi, beef tataki.
Exceptionally tasty food. We had the soft shell roll, mushroom eggplant dish and fish (not pictured). Some service people very attentive although it varied. We ate at the bar as the tables for 2 were so close they would not allow for conversion. Was surprised when one waitress commented half way through our meal she thought our chairs were not placed close enough to the bar for her liking.
Decent izakaya that accommodates large groups. We came here as a group of 10 and were seated in the upstairs area, which is a lot more spacious. Ordered the standard fare, ranging from grilled fish to agedashi tofu, skewers, sashimi platters, etc.
Prices are reasonable and staff are friendly.
A must go to! So fresh and delicious. We had the different types of tuna and some other rolls. Miso soup is bomb.
Good variety with decent price point. It’s on a higher end for a traditional izakaya but the food and drinks were good! We got a tempura plate, veggie roll, ika yaki (grilled squid), and the eggplant mushroom dish. They were all really good. Would definitely recommend the eggplant with mushroom!
Izakaya Nonbei is a fantastic place if you want high quality fish and timely meals given at a great price.
The selection of fish they had was amazing. You can dine on tasty bluefin tuna at good price, or eat authentic wagyu for a little under normal price for that quality of meat.
Their Wasabi is also a great reason to come, for not only is it more tasteful and spicy than nearby places, you also get a lot of each with each dish.
Highly recommend.
Good price for authetic Japanese sake. Nice dishes. A bit loud atmosphere, but acceptable as an izakaya.
