El Paso's best kept secret!. Don't let the exterior fool you, this is a nice family owned place that we will return to again and again. The walls inside are adorned with colorful murals, one which was done completely by Owner Hector Chavez who has talents that go far beyond cooking. As for the food, absolutely the best chilies rellenos I ever had, the green chili stew and enchiladas were delicious. Good choices on the main buffet as well as salad and dessert bar. We also ordered some steamed fish which was cooked with onions and peppers and lightly seasoned- Perfect! Hector and his wife (married 56 years) are lovely people who will chat with you and we shared some interesting stories. Try the watermelon water- it is a nice change from tea or soda.
Abuelita's buffet!. This is plain ol-fashioned homemade Mexican food. in other words: divine!
If you are wanting processed, run-of-the mill, always know what to expect Mexican food don't stop here.
Standards include: chile rellenos, red-enchiladas, (creamy and chessy, sin sebollas) mole (perfect balance of sweet and picoso) chicken wing caldo and tacos with shredded cabbage. The chile colorado is as close to perfect as I can get just short of Lindy's mom's (Bertha H.) chile. Oh I miss that.
Fridays includes a fish option (very considerate).
The staff has never let us down. You are seated and attended to from beginning of visit to end with appreciation for your patronage.
Many of these dishes take me back to a friend's mom's/abuelita's kitchen when asked to stay for dinner.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! A+++
The service was excellent, and the food was great. They have a breakfast buffet with lots of choices, and fresh tortillas to order. Fair price, we will be going back.

Food was good. It is set up as a breakfast and lunch buffet traditional breakfast food eggs scrambled and over medium, hashbrowns, pancakes, and spice up with enchiladas, chilaquiles, beans, etc. I found it very enjoyably. Oh they also have salads, fresh fruits, puddings and various drinks.
I usually don't go to buffet-style restaurants, but today we were wanting to try their breakfast. It was really good and they had a lot of variety. They also had some nice fruit and puddings for dessert. The servers are very friendly and helpful. The owner also came by to see if we needed anything else. Very nice atmosphere and clean, too. I will go back to the Taco Real, even if it is buffet-style.🤗
Delicious food, very friendly staff, great value. If you have limited time for a quick meal this is the place. If you wanted to linger and chat, this is the place. The food was fantastic! The entire atmosphere was extremely friendly. On my way to the table two guests said "Hello". Thank you for the great experience! If every restaurant was this wonderful, I would weigh 1,000 lbs.
Love this place...my wife and I love authentic Mexican food and were usually skeptical about the buffets but this one was delicious, the food was very fresh and constantly being replaced. The dessert bar was sufficient and my kids actually enjoyed the food as well. The rest of the buffet was great and the staff here are awesome. I will bring my family back.
Lunch buffet is great. Their servers are friendly and polite and they check on the quality of the food and if something is not good they will immediately take it out of the buffet and replace with something else.
Food is well seasoned and they will make you ground beef tacos as part of the buffet. Made fresh and served hot.
very good service good food a nice place to hang out
Authentic Mexican food !!!no beans from a can
The first two times I ate here it was great. The second time I ate here it was okay. I'm guessing it's hit-and-miss and I'm not sure I would try it again. But still, because it's a buffet the value is great and the food is good. That's why I'm giving it 4 stars.
Every time I’m in El Chuco I have to stop and indulge myself here for lunch. Very good food, with authentic flavor; not what you’d expect from a buffet. They don’t have a huge selection which is just fine because what they do have is well done. Price is very reasonable for the amount of food you’re free to consume!
