Excellent selection of beers, great service. I sat at the bar and had drinks and food. Food is amazing in quality, flavor, presentation. The bartender, which was a short brunette with a great personality, knew the drink/food menu in great detail. She recommended starters, seconds, and thirds with exquisite detail. I will definitely return.
This review is based on my Happy Hour experience at The Greenhouse Tavern.
I really enjoy sitting at the bar drinking some HH special and munching on Crispy Chicken Confit Wings ($9). Service was fast and friendly.
I am though a little confused about why the wings is called "crispy" wings? Their saltiness though was a perfect match for beers.
Love the deco and the vibe of the restaurant itself and will consider coming here for dinner next time when I am in town!
Chef / owner Jonathan Sawyer, a passionate Clevelander, moved back to his beloved hometown from NYC in 2007. In 2009 he opened The Greenhouse Tavern in what is now the hip and bustling East 4th Street dining district. .
The food and the service, are just downright incredible. We've eaten here a few times, and each time, it's been fabulous. For the love of all that's holy, please treat yourself to the Salted Carmel Popcorn pot de creme!! It is just divine! I'm always disappointed with desserts...they always look so good, but most just let me down. Well, try this little pot of gold. It's honestly the best dessert I've ever had. In my whole life. Ever.
We also enjoyed the Pig's head, properly cut Delmonico Steak, and the pork chop saltimboca.
I was listening to NPR on my way to Cleveland, heard about the chef and this restaurant. I was determined to have lunch there. I was thrilled that I did! The beef tartare was amongst the best I've ever had. It was served with pomme frites on the side, garnished with rosemary and garlic....heavenly.
I can't wait to return very soon and would highly recommend this restaurant to my Cleveland friends and family.
Best Downtown Restaurant. My wife and I lived downtown for a while, and this is probably the best food in the area. It is located in a great area for dinner and drinks (east 4th st), and every item we have tried was superb.
Service excellent. Both husband and I did the 4 coarse tasting; so glad we did. Food was superb. So happy to have real gastro pub food available in Cleveland!
Came for a conference from MD and this was the BEST part of Cleveland. The service was good and the food was ridiculous! Wings were fall right off the bone and the sauce was original. And if you like chicken parm or lasagna try the Air Cheese, a vegetarian dish but absolutely out of this world!!!
Outstanding Lunch Value. My wife and I recently had a Friday afternoon lunch at the Greenhouse Tavern and were surprised by the quality and price of the lunch. We ordered the Gravy Frites appetizer and two sandwiches and the total with tip was under $30. While it wasn't the least expensive lunch ever, the quality of the food was excellent and we were still talking about it days later!
My wife and I had a late lunch here last week after coming across the restaurant while strolling around the area. We are very glad we stopped. The French bread pizza with yogurt and crispy duck was delicious as was the chickpea torpedo. We would definitely go back again when we visit Cleveland next.
Stumbled upon this place and decided to have brunch. Asked for suggestions based on what is good here and ordered chicken and waffles as well as steak and egg sammy. The sammy was good and had a bit of a kick to it. The chicken and waffles had a good kick to it too, the maple syrup alone was out of this world. A mixture of sweet and spicy at the same time. Chicken was amazing too, seasoned well. Service was good as well, always came back to check up on us and top up our drinks. They have the option of indoor seating and patio seating. Highly recommend.
Great place for drinks, dinner or whatever you make it. Gravy frites aka amped up poutine are amazing. You cannot pass on wings confit and the burger or lamb burger are delicious. Best rosemary garlic fries. They sure top Chef Symon's. Always have great beer, whiskey selection and tasty mixed concoctions that change with seasons. Carry Hoof-hearted beer.
We visited the Greenhouse Tavern as a large group of 10, coming straight from a convention downtown. I had the foresight to ring ahead and the restaurant manager was on the case to get us a table, even though they were full. We had only a couple minutes wait before we were beckoned inside and seated. The menu was enticing with twists and turns on traditional favorites, alongside exotic dishes like a Roasted Pig’s Head (!). Our waiter was commendably efficient in getting our drinks and food orders taken when there were so many of us.
My Ohio Lamb Burger was a straightforward affair, very nicely cooked and rare to boot. My partner alongside tried the Chicken n’ Biscuits; coming from overseas, we’d heard a lot about this famous pairing. Alas the dish was pretty lackluster, the biscuits dry bullets which our American friends derided as a poor representation of what a biscuit should be. But overall our group did seem pleased with their meals and the efficiency meant I felt that I’d given my group a good recommendation for the evening.
I ordered the pigs head, it took an hour for the pigs head to be ready. The meat was very tender and the bbq sauce on it was pretty good. Unfortunately the plating and presentation left a lot to be desired, it's a great dish to be served the way I got it.
The service was o.k. nothing special like I expected for the prices.
I've wanted to visit this restaurant for a couple of years, and my best friend finally took me last night for my birthday celebration. It was really worth the wait. First, it's located about halfway down 4th Street in Cleveland, which is a small alley lined on both sides with locally-owned restaurants and small businesses. It's completely closed to auto traffic, and in the summer time, all the restaurants' outdoor patios are open, and it is lit with strings of lights criss-crossing the alley. We had the crispy pig ears and a house salad to begin with, we had an order of the confit chicken wings, and then we indulged in the roasted pig head. We finished with the buttered popcorn pot de crème, which was a perfectly sensual end to our meal. It was all excellent, but it was way too much food. If I had to do it over again, I would forgo the chicken wings. Not that they weren't excellent, but I'm going to be dreaming about those crispy pig ears for a long time, and I would way rather have those again than the wings. The roasted pig head is an amazingly moist, and huge, piece of dark pork. I would suggest that you order one early, however, because they have only a limited number and when they're gone, they're gone. We will definitely revisit this place!
Delightful restaurant. I chose the chefs tasting menu and was very satisfied! Front and back of house staff are both fun and friendly. I would highly recommend booking the chefs table. 10/10
Very tasty, great atmosphere, not too pricey
I got a Gold Dust Woman and a skirt steak. The broccoli had a great balance of crunch with its charred flavor. The potatoes were large and flavorful. The steak was very tender and juicy.
The outdoor seating on East 4th is gorgeous and they have seats in the sun and the shade.
This place is seriously delicious. I’ve yet to find anything they cook that I do not like. The first time I visited was probably about 4 years ago when I saw the restaurant featured on an episode of Bizarre Foods Cleveland. I came in shortly after just to a get a small meal and they sealed the deal with their toasted Brussel sprouts and Tobasco fried chicken. The chicken is so tender and the perfect degree of spicy. The brussel sprouts are glazed in a balsamic dressing and fried to perfection(they really aren’t burnt) They are to die for. The next year I moved on to what I had really desired the whole time, the BBQ Pigshead. My brother brought me for my birthday and was the only brave soul I had come across that would eat it with me. It was everything I had waited for and expected it to be plus SO MUCH MORE. Since then we’ve been in for an April 20th special which included a schnitzel sandwich, their OMG SO Delicious chicken wings(seriously buy them), the clams (you’re going to love yourself for buying these), boudinballs, lemon cake, stoner tacos and the stoner sandwich, which is always available I believe, and is made up of a waffle and handmade ice cream. I’m honestly probably this restaurants biggest fan. They know food! Treat yourself and get on down there! Our next trip will be for the full lamb leg coupled with all the gyro fixings of your dreams! Thank you to the Sawyers you’re amazing!
Stopped in for lunch, it was quite busy but I was able to grab a seat quickly. My waiter was Chris and he was awesome! He made great suggestions on what I should try. I had the rosemary fries and lamb burger which was delicious and tender. I thought the lamb might be overpowering in taste but it was perfect! Conveniently located down East 4th as well!
The brunch menu was amazing today. Great job!! The atmosphere is really neat the place is clean and fun. The service is incredible! Cannot wait to come back!
