Review Sunset Pho Caffe - Chicago

Diana Grossman Tantra Butterfly
Extremely delicious pho and very organic and clean tasting. I chose the chicken šŸ” pho and the cuts of meat were extremely good and generous. I've had pho before that was a bit on the spicier side; but this broth was not made fiery so you can add Chilli paste, Siracha sauce...etc to your liking because the spices are arranged to the side of each table. The Thai iced šŸ§Š tea however is prepared very very strongly and since I ate at around 4pm I did suffer a bit of insomnia so a warning āš ļø they use a lot of black tea with a little Thai mix and some milky substance and froth at the top with Boba pearls. It was around $7 and not the way I typically enjoy it but you might love their gourmet bubble tea version of Thai tea. The atmosphere here is very serene and relaxing and you can definitely take your time to enjoy your huge bowl of homemade pho. This is a private, family owned business and each family member works here so they will take good care of you! I will definitely return! This restaurant typically opens at 5pm during the work week but after 3pm on the weekends only.

Such a lovely, cute little pho place with really amazing and unique menu items. No shame in saying this was my first time trying pho and it has definitely raised the bar for all other pho places. Amazing portion size, flavorful and absolutely delicious. I still think the star of our meal was the Cevapcici spring rolls. Loved the service. The owner is such a nice person and took his time to explain everything to us.

The nicest family that works here. My friend told me she got a free shot here before, and today I got the same treatment. It's a Serbian plum wine that tastes good. Better sitting than taking a shot when you are alone.

This place has a fusion jugoslavian-vietnamese. Somenthing I'd never think could existed, but it does and it's actually great. I had the mussels - good, not as tasty as the Mediterranean ones though - and a cevapcici sausage spring roll which was perfectly balanced by the spices.

Wow. First time having the all-beef Yugoslavian sausage and it was just incredible. We came here for the Vietnamese and were surprised to see a fusion Yugoslavian-Vietnamese menu. Turns out the husband is from the former and the wife is from the latter, and it worked incredibly well. We loved the sausage rolls, and while the mussles were a bit too chewy and not nearly as fresh/soft as others we've had at higher end places, the 'yummy' sauce it came with was just delicious and worked great with the bread. The big bread bun served with sausage in the photo here is the main dish everyone should order here. The bread was just so soft, fluffy and incredibly tasty. I personally loved the Pho so much and I want to go there just to have it again. Overall, this place was a delightful surprise and I wish I found about it sooner.

First time here came on a super cold day looking to get some delicious hot pho & that's what we got. It's a nice lil comfy spot with friendly staff. It did take a while for the waitress to come take our orders as she was the only staff member besides the man at the bar, I don't know if that's usually how it is. The wait time for our two orders was a bit long as well. The pho itself was great def hit the spot, although I will say they are pricier than what I'm used to-I got the beef broth with brisket & that was $17, my hunny got the sunset pho & that was $21 so yea, it's delicious but I've had delicious pho for much cheaper. This was probably my first & last time coming here but it was a positive experience overall.

Great atmosphere inside and the food is incredible. We got the beef pho with brisket and the veggie spring rolls. Both I highly recommend!

Their spicy lemongrass pho hit the spot for me every time. It is called Bun Bo Hue but I love their version so much more than then original bun Bo hue. Love this pho spot

Fantastic, family-owned spot on Clark with great options you won't find anywhere else. Huge portions of soup, and many innovative dishes. The owners are great people, and remember all the neighborhood customers by heart. Very welcoming atmosphere with lots of seating options (bar, high top, or intimate tables). I like to try many different small plates to get a sampling of items from each of their home countries. I try to make it every week, or at least a few times a month.

Super delicious food, I tried the vegetarian Vietnamese pho soup and tasted amazing, rich flavors, fresh veggies not over cooked. The owner is super nice. He offers plum whiskey shots to taste to each guest. The chef came to greet us with big smile. She is a very friendly and talented chef. If you are looking for a charming cozy place to have a delicious dinner visit this restaurant gem in Chicago.

Vegetarian Pho and Shrimp Noodle Salad was SO good. The atmosphere was certainly unique and awesome. Felt like I was in some random European house/pub. Very lively and busy.

Donā€™t be intimidated by the looks of this restaurant! A cathedral style place serving pho?!?? They did it! This place is a family restaurant and it shows in the deliciousness of the food and the friendliness of the owners! We ordered rolls as appetizers, very good and fresh and both our phos (traditional beef and spicy lemongrass beef) were full of flavour! I will definitely come back here each time Iā€™m craving pho šŸœ

The pho and vermicelli bowl was good. The owner was nice enough to randomly offer us shots of plum brandy from his country! Loved how cozy and low key this place was. :)

Amazinggggggg! A unique and cozy atmosphere. The lemongrass pho is flavorful and delicious. There are also some cool eastern European influences (ie Cevapcici as an option to put in the pho! I didnā€™t get this but itā€™s very interesting) and a great international beer list.

Absolutely delicious. Found this on google and went immediately!!! Probably the best pho Iā€™ve ever had. Service was amazing & had a lovely table by the window. The couple that owns this place is personable, kind, and accommodating. Will be back!!!

This review is long overdue. Weā€™ve been to Sunset Pho over 20 times now, and it is one of our favorite restaurants in the city. We always order the Sunset Special Pho, the Rare Beef Pho, and the Vietnamese crepe, and they never fail to disappoint. The pho broth is cooked over 22 hours, and the depth of flavor is beyond any that I have had from Phoā€™s elsewhere. The owner Zel is always very hospitable and even offers shots on the house from time to time. When you walk into the restaurant and see the atmosphere and listen to the music, you feel as if you are walking into someoneā€™s home and are greeted as family. We definitely recommend this place as a go to for Pho in Chicago and the perfect way to support a family business!

We have a unique place, Vietnamese Food and sea food too, full bar, high top tables to have quick lunch and watch some sports, glass top tables to dine in style with out fire place, out door caffe, and people say we have one of the best Pho"s in town and I like it too. Stop in for a section of seafood on the weekends for march madness, craw fish, king crab, scallopes on half shell, frog legs and more

Super friendly staff and owners. Loved their pho. Been back many times. Sunset is located on a lonely strip of Western. Parking is plentiful. The restaurant is a combo bar and Vietnamese restaurant. Great drinks, awesome food, friendly service, and a wonderful choice of music. Where else can you enjoy pho ga while listening to Johnny Cash? Go, ask for Zell.

Delicious food, helpful staff, try it. I had the Zombie Crawfish. Food you might not have tried some place else.

Some of the best pho I've had anywhere. The "Unitarian jazz" ensemble complete with torch singer on Wednesday nights makes this a unique part of the Chicago dining scene--and I might add that along with Angry Crab, begins to put West Ridge on the Chicago foodies' map.

I attended a fundraising event yesterday put on by the Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society. It was to celebrate the release of a community cookbook and highlight local restaurants. Sunset Pho Caffe was one of the participating restaurants. I just want to say that I absolutely LOVED the ginger chicken cabbage dish! You must try it. The eggrolls and rice were wonderful too. I learned that Sunset Pho also donated their dishes. I can't wait to visit to try those dishes and new ones again!

The best pho I've ever had-- and I've had a lot, back home, in CA (including in the San Gabriel Valley and Orange County, both well-known for Vietnamese food. Owners were very sweet and attentive. We are going again before we fly out!

We had such great service here! The food was amazing and the staff were so sweet to my 2yr old. This place is a must! Can't wait to enjoy some Pho soon!

The cevapicci spring rolls unique and awesome. The Pho is excellent. Highly recommended.
