Review Moody Tongue Brewing Company - Chicago

The food was exceptional, but I was shocked with the service or lack thereof. At these prices and with a Michelin rating, the service has major room to improve. I understand that I am comparing it to other Michelin restaurants I’ve been to where service is part of the experience, but when we asked to pack our food, the server threw a box on our table and ran off. This is just an example and maybe she was having a bad day, but it was a cold, impersonal experience throughout the meal and definitely affected our thoughts on the restaurant. Now, the food was creative, beautiful, and absolutely divine.

Excellent service by John for party of 8 holiday dinner. Great pacing and recommendations including how many dishes per person. Would recommend the pear & andive salad, seared Hokkaido scallops, and key lime bar (dessert). Warm and non-rushed atmosphere.

Moody Tongue was out of this world. From the demure exterior, elevated interior, and excellent service everything was outstanding even before getting to the food and drinks. The beer flights we had were great, as well as the cocktail. The fried fish and pasta appetizer we had were similarly absolutely delicious. I highly recommend others visit Moody Tongue.

The venue feels business casual but slightly upscale. They have a very novel and delicious collection of beers and cocktails. They are known for their Chocolate cake, which I ordered, but did not like. Their butter cream has a texture similar to frosting. So if you do not like frosting do not order the cake or expect to slice off the four layers that come into contact with the butter cream. Despite my taste preferences the cake is a true work of art. However I think the craft beer menu, being so unique, is much more of an enticing reason to visit.

Very sharable dishes. Michelin 2 stars restaurant should serve a huge plate with a tiny cake. BUT this restaurant serve a cake bigger than cheesecake factory... The cake is definitely good for sharing with 4 people… 😂 BUT who does not like a generous restaurant????

Nice addition to the South Loop dining scene. The build your own beer flight is always is solid choice. Birthdays, anniversaries and family celebrations would be ideal here because the menu is meant to be a shared experience. Market fish was cooked perfectly but there’s bones (usually the case with full fish at restaurants) so be mindful when digging in if you’re not familiar. Worth checking out!

We made a reservation at the main dinner room. We loved all the dishes we ordered. The server was very professional and made great recommendations for us. Would recommend for sure and will try the tasting menu next.

Could not ask for a better experiance. Our waiter was personable, knowledgable and gave great recomendations. Had the 1st scotch barrel beer that I actually really liked. Great beer pairings to go with the food. The Manila Clam & Pork Belly Chowda was definitely my favorite dish but all dishes were amazing.

The Moody Tongue has a chill atmosphere with the friendliest host/hostesses, waiters/waitresses and chefs. The food is very unique and tasty. I highly recommend this place to any foodie.

While the restaurant offered quality dishes, it fell short of being memorable or providing a truly unique dining experience. It's a good choice for those who prefer more salty flavors and are interested in beer pairings. This establishment, known as a brewing house, is famous for its beer. So, we also added a beer pairing, which was excellent. However, my personal taste in beer is limited, and I regret that I couldn't fully appreciate the beer's quality. The tasting menu is priced at $285 per person (with an additional 20% compulsory service fee), and the portions are definitely ample! While the quality is good, it lacks the wow factor compared to other fine dining Michelin-starred restaurants. After the meal, they offer each guest a bottle of their home-brewed beer as a souvenir, which is a thoughtful touch! The food overall was satisfactory, with no major disappointments. The flavors lean towards the salty side. Here are some dishes I particularly enjoyed: 1. The snacks as appetizers were presented in a large plant-like arrangement. The beautiful presentation contained numerous bite-sized delights. 2. The Uni + custard duck was delicious, featuring the unique taste of sea urchin in a delicate custard. 3. The White asparagus was tender and paired well with a panna cotta pudding, offering a rich layer of flavors. 4. The Lobster was incredibly tender, but the portion was a bit small. 5. The Lamb was soft and not at all gamey, which was very tasty.

It was our first time here and we didn’t even know it was a two-star Michelin restaurant. We decided to stop here under a friends recommendation and we just so happened to get there one hour before closing. They were so kind to fit us in for dinner and drinks in The Bar area. We cannot say enough how much we enjoyed the dishes and drinks we experienced. Decent prices were a surprise given its Michelin status. We had the Butter Poached Maine Lobster and the Maine Diver Scallops. So delicious! Our friends also enjoyed their meals and shared a couple flights of their IPAs. We hope to come back to experience more delicious food and drinks!

The external facade if the restaurant is very understated. Once inside we sat at the bar and the bar tenders were tremendous. The food selection while limited at the bar was fabulous. We had the smoked duck and fish, and both were unbelievable.

My little Le Cordon Bleu Heart danced, sang, was transported and absolutely savored every single bite!! My husband and I did the tasting menu and he had the beer pairing. Now the only con we had was my husband felt the price of the beer pairing was definitely not worth the cost. We started at the bar. Service was quick, friendly and the drinks amazing! I had the Remember Me and my husband had the Horchata Punch. You are treated with so much kindness and care in the tasting dining room. We weren’t rushed through the courses at all and everything was explained so well. The flavors and infusions were outstanding. The details and presentation was extraordinary. Definitely full when we finished, I even let my husband finish a few of my plates as I wanted to be sure I got to try everything! You could tell the ingredients were fresh, the colors were beautiful and everything very thought out. Cod was my absolute favorite of the night. Can’t wait to go again!

Very interesting beers, wonderful food that pairs well with them and a attentive staff to serve it all up! My fav was the chocolate cake and raspberry beer. Only downside was the unusual neighborhood, but walkable from the convention center! Will be back!

I would highly recommend the bar experience. You can just call to make sure they still have seats. Arrive there around sunset time and sitting towards the outside is perfect. Order one beer, try the Michelin Star food. Life cannot be better.

Fantastic food, excellent beer, lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend. Everything we tried was phenomenal and an explosion of flavor. The beer is all brewed in house and the concept of a brewery mixed with fine dining is so fun and innovative.
