Review La Cantina Italian Chophouse - Chicago

Trent Blevins
As others have said, it does have a great ambiance. As you enter, you go down the stairs, and everything has a very Tuscan feel to it, but on a smaller scale. The food was delicious!!! We did hafta wait quite a lil while after we placed our order, and the calamari, though seasoned well, had been cooked too long and was more chewy than should be, almost rubbery, but that got taken off. The lasagna was very good!! All in all, a pretty good experience.

Great place..Great food.. And probably perfect for couples. Most of the seats are arrange for 2. We were three and ended up sitting on the walkway which was kind of uncomfortable..

Great ambiance. Delicious crusty bread, light perfect calamari, salad with great house made italian, and yummy rum cake. I had the eggplant parmesan and felt like it was missing some flavor - the marinara just seemed like tomato and I would have loved a little more garlic and basil in the sauce. My husband's lobster risotto was very good. Amazing service.

Amazing Italian food. Went there 2 nights in a row. Even during the rush they remembered us and gave us the same table and server. Friendly authentic Italian atmosphere. Dimitri was a great server and Emilio in the bar was fantastic. I highly recommend and will look forward to going back!!!

I had the good fortune to have dinner at La Cantina Italian Chophouse with a group of colleagues while in Chicago for a business meeting. It was a great experience! We were given the choice of 3 entrees: eggplant parm, penne with a chicken cream sauce and lasagna. All delicious. The meals were served timely and efficiently to 20 guests. Choice of soup or Caesar or mixed green salad was also offered. To finish off the meal, I had lemon sorbet and a decaffeinated cappuccino. All were very yummy. I was especially happy that gluten free pasta was available.

This was a very great restaurant. They had great portions and the wait wasn't long at all as opposed to other restaurants on a Saturday night. The pasta was fantastic and the waiter was kind and sweet.

The ambiance was really good. Didn't order much as we were just taking break from shopping. The garlic bread was really good and also the sangria.

Very delicious food, but going there an having a scheduled play, and they were definitely aware of it. We ordered our meal within 10 minutes of being there. It took nearly an hour and 15 minutes for it to arrive.

Had an excellent old world Italian supper. Staff was very friendly and service excellent. Big had the lasagna which came with bread and salad. Best lasagna I have had in a long time.

The prix-fixe theater menu was what we needed. My lasagna was great; her tilapia was outstanding.

Service was excellent! The salad with blue cheese was excellent. Pasta was good but a little watery. B+

Dark, cozy..ambience. Thats about it.

Service was great. Disappointed in the food for the price. Ordered lasagna, ravioli with meatballs added. The meatballs you get in a Subway sandwich are superior. the ravioli was good but not great. lasagna was mediocre. The Caesar salad was garlicky but bland. The dressing seemed to be more water from the lettuce than anything else. Overall was expecting something my grandmother would make. Quite frankly if it wasnt for the ambience of sitting in what seems like an old speak easy, this place wouldn't survive in a standalone mall type location. ambience is all they have going for it..Olive Garden is better IMHO.

Intimate Steak House. One of my favorite places in Chicago for Steak and Italian.
I always enjoy the Ribe Eye and the Chicken Vesuvio.
Very intimate for business meetings with leather booths and fish tanks.
Great Wine Lists !!

My review. I'm from the twin cities visiting a friend in chicago and we ate there last evening, thought the steak I ordered was great but was a little disappointed about the chicken soup I ordered was missing the chicken. And my friend was disappointed in her soup as well, the service could have been better.
Lunch In The Loopers
Viva Italia!. 10.21.09 - Housed in the Italian Village, La Cantina Chophouse is the restaurant on the basement level. The atmosphere was very romantic with a dimly lit setting and narrow walkways between tables. The bread with oil and parmesan cheese to start was delicious. The waiter's pace was painstakingly slow though. Perhaps he was trying not to rush us, but the Village has a Loop location and the patrons surrounding our table seemed to be coming from work as well, so we thought the service should have been quicker. We were missing one looper for this lunch excursion, so the remaining two of us enjoyed joking about the date-like atmosphere. One ordered the Sausage Sandwich Parmigiana served with cottage fries and he was very pleased with the order. The other looper had the Tortelli Tre Formaggi and was expecting to find tortellini based on the name. In fact, the entree turned out to be ravioli-type pasta, which the looper was delighted by anyway. The waiter quickened his pace a bit after we ordered, but then disappeared again when we were trying to ask for the check. Maybe this is a customary style of service for Italian restaurants, even at lunchtime, because you may recall our previous Gioco review sounding similar to this one. Regardless, the food was good and the location is not too far from our work building so we might give it, or one of its sister restaurants in the Village, a go in the future. Ciao, bellas!

Great Ambiance!!. From the moment you walk in you feel like you are in a wine cellar, very unique. Another great restaurtant in the loop, whether you are going out on the town for the night, or doing a business lunch, service is always great and the food is always fantastic. I've had lunch and dinner here many times, every experience has been excellent. The food is always well presented. Lots of good eats here, I say if or when you find yourself in Chicago, make a stop here. You won't be disappointed!!
