Review Avec - Chicago

Brett Farmer
Wonderful experience. Incredible food and drink for the price. We got brussel sprouts, scallops, and pork shoulder. Which were excellent. The sorbets and gelato for dessert were wonderful as well. All for less than $250! On top of all that the service was amazing.

They change the menu often so there are some items that are still there and others that have left. The chorizo stuffed dates is a crowd pleaser so it’ll always stay on the menu. The dates are really good so that’s a 5/5. The whole roasted fish I actually preferred a past version of it vs the one they have now. I’m not a fan of kidney beans. Food quality is pretty decent depending on the dish. Service was fantastic. We actually sat outside so I never saw the inside.

Food is amazingly tasty. A wonderful spot with great service. The food was amazing and every dish was cooked to perfection. We really enjoyed the chorizo stuffed dates, the shrimp, the shakshuka and the tasty pork belly.

My review is from the perspective of a traveller not a local. We came for lunch on a sunday and the space is small and tightly squeezed. Folks kindly had to move and let us in so we could sit at our reserved seats cause its set up family style. The food is great, its so good I'm going to try to remake the polenta cause it was unforgettable! I loved the wrapped dates, so savoury and rich in flavour. The staff were friendly, but abit overbearing in certain instances, coupled with the loud noise and lack of privacy due to the close seating arrangements, it can be unnerving. Overall I would come again next time I'm in the city, maybe during a slower time

I was lucky enough to grab a spot at the bar without a reservation. (I definitely recommend getting one though.) The staff was accommodating. But that food though. There was a bit of a wait (it was a busy brunch service), but everything came out hot and tasted great. Next time I'm in Chicago, I'll make a dinner reservation and try some of the wines on their decently varied list.

Did you know that this Michelin guided restaurant has happy hour? It does! No reservations necessary. The chorizo, hummus, cod dip, and fresh bread were all affordable and delicious. Wine and cocktails are also offered at a reduced price. It’s a win-win!

They had a really good happy hour menu, we were stuffed just from trying those out. Food and cocktails were good but felt that the chorizo dates were a tad too sweet if we had to nitpick. The cod dip with the toasted bread however was delicious

We got seated right away since we had a reservation. The broccoli and tabbouleh were good! Really filling for two people. We tried the slow cooked pork and it was good but reminded me of carnitas. 😅 Really good service. Overall, 4.5/5 ✨We were so full!

A classic Chicago restaurant serving modern dishes that are really elevated yet delicious. So glad I got to try Avec on my trip out here. We snagged a reservation fairly easily for this specific location (though they have another in River North) since it’s the original. Food is amazing here and you can’t go wrong ordering any of the family style dishes. The waiter recommended each person in a party to get either two small appetizers or one large entree and split them so that what we did. We left feeling full and satisfied. My favorites were the chorizo stuffed dates, and the truffle focaccia though none of the dishes disappointed. We happened to come on a Tuesday as well when they do half off all their wine bottles which made for a fantastic meal. Overall this place is worth every penny and deserves the hype it has!

Salmon hummus unreal, very rich with a lot of olive and fish oil, came with mint. Pita seemed fresh and pillowy still with stretch (always came out puffed) and lavish had wonderful ashy smell. Swordfish mussel tagine was very good. Pistacchio chocolate baklava came with ricotta cheese, not too syrupy. Best baklava I've had (also haven't had many). Roasted carrot hummus was also good, came with peas and was very sweet. Do not recommend minced lamb flatbread, much too salty and not enough variety of flavors. Shortrib hummus was ehh, I felt the shortrib did not pair w the hummus so well.

Had a fantastic meal here. The chorizo stuffed dates were especially good. They also have a good selection of pretty reasonably priced wines.

This is a glowing review for Avec in the west loop. They’ve earned a lot of reviews like this. I had such a good meal there - delicata squash, bacon wrapped dates, hummus, and branzino fish. Everything tasted exquisite! Seriously, how do they make little bits of squash SO flavorful? Not sure how I slept on this place for 20 years. I hope they enjoy 20 more.

Absolutely delicious food. There wasn't anything that we ordered that we didn't like. One of my standouts was the stuffed dates. So good and unique. Would go back for sure!

This is a small but quaint space. The main resto hides behind a side door that camouflages itself with the wooden frame of this place. Ordered the shakshuka and it was arguably one of the best I’ve had. The eggs was slightly medium but there was some soft yolk once it was cut into. The spicy tomato sauce with the garnishes of couscous, tahini and mint gave nice contrasting flavors. The crusty side of bread was nice to dip into the sauce and egg yolks. Definitely will return to try the many other items on their brunch menu. Lastly, the staff was attentive and friendly.

Looking for a marvelous spot for lunch? Look no further , don’t delay making a reservation now. Fresh food served by attentive servers. The host was very kind to store my luggage for me as well. A must- Chorizo stuffed date!!

Walking into the restaurant, I was welcomed by a lovely interior of wooden tables and cozy ambient lights. The restaurant has a nice homey smell to it, and I felt at home as the server greeted us and walked us through each dish, explaining what ingredients were involved and recommending us what were popular. My only nitpick is how small the restaurant is, so people of different parties sat next to each other, and as such, it was hard to follow my conversations. Here is the important part: the food. The food was scrumptious. I ordered the brioche donuts as an appetizer - it was relatively cheap for how big it is, the sugar they used (not sure which sugar they used) did not taste artificial, and came straight out of the kitchen, so it was extremely fresh-tasting. For the entree, I ordered the focaccia + smoked salmon - the bread sandwiched ricotta (that alone tasted phenomenal), topped with smoked salmon and rosemary which really balanced all the flavors. Overall, would recommend coming here for a cute brunch date. Service is attentive and welcoming, food brings mediterranean food to a good light, and the atmosphere is cute.

Really enjoy this space more than the river north location. The decor, setup and vibe is much more intimate and unique. Food and drink was very good as expected and lots of vegetarian options too. Even though the place was super packed the service was very good and attentive. Honestly at this price point I’m not sure there’s a place in the city doing it better.

Avec’s West Loop location is one of the best restaurants in Chicago and was recently featured on the hit TV series, The Bear. (Yes, I’m trying to work my way through S2E3’s featured dishes.) The bacon wrapped, chorizo-stuffed medjool dates are a must have as well as the grilled fish with banana pepper and the super flavorful roasted pork shoulder. I loved everything right down to the homemade manchego ice cream! Wow! Oh, and did I mention their hummus creations which were outstanding! You won’t go wrong with any selection. So, if you’re in Chi Town, make a reservation and thank me later.

Enjoyed a 9 course meal of amazing food. My only regret is not taking pictures for you. The chorizo filled bacon wrapped dates are worth a trip to Chicago by themselves! The Swordfish and mussels were beautifully cooked and bursting with flavors. The cocktails were amazing as well. All around an amazing place to dine.
