Can't comment much on the authenticity of this place, but it's a staple for a reason. It's the classic "chinese takeout" joint thats a safe, fallback option for Hopkins students. It's open pretty late too, if I remember correctly.
The portion sizes are large and the prices are standard. Don't expect to be surprised, but "there's always Orient".
We used Orient Express as the location of our "rehearsal lunch" for our wedding at the Baltimore Museum of Art down the road. We had about 25 people in the upstairs part and we ordered several dishes per tables. Everything tasted amazing - as expected, and it was a really nice space for people to get to know each other. Everyone really enjoyed themselves. The management was also very kind and easy to work with to set this up.
We’ve gotten takeout from here 3 or 4 times in the past couple months. It’s been very good every time! I’m not sure what’s up with these reviews; we’ll continue to be regulars here.
Our online orders are always ready quickly, even during dinner rush. The two employees we have interacted with during pickup are perfectly friendly/courteous. The interior is nice with cool air conditioning.
The food is great. We enjoy the Chicken with Szechuan Pepper (so delicious), the Pork Lo Mein, the Chicken with Mixed Vegetables, and the Egg Rolls. We’ve been happy with the portions and prices.
Pork Intestine in Chili Sauce was very good, basically tastes like a fatty meat. If you haven't had intestines before don't worry, these are well cleaned, and crispy on the outside, and it melts in your mouth.
I dont see why some of the review are complaining about the environment of the restaurant, silverware, and the food because the only styrophone silverware are the cups, and the food has excellent taste, but if you ask for non spicy food this wouldn't really be the best restaurant but they'll still do there best to keep it not spicy and some of the dishes do taste plain without the spicey taste. Would recommend this place to spicy eaters. Hope you enjoy the food there.

The food is acceptable, but for those who are not used to eat Chinese food, the flavor might be a little overwhelming. I like the food but it's definitely not my first choice for lunches or dinners.

I can’t get enough! I want to try everything on the menu. Very authentic. Boiled chicken in hot chili oil (pictured) has been my favorite so far!
Ordered takeout here all the time (4 to 5 times a week) when I was a student at Johns Hopkins University! So nice to have authentic Chinese food on campus!!
Dont miss this spot! Their "American" chinese food is good, but what makes this place shine is their SZECHUAN MENU! Order items like chicken with szechuan pepper, double cooked fish fillets, poached fish in hot chili oil, wonton in hot chili oil and beef with cumin! You will love (make sure not to eat the chilis).
Amazing authentic Chinese food that’s so hard to find in Baltimore. The pork and dumplings were phenomenal! I had the hot and sour soup and it had such amazing heat and flavor. I’m going again for sure. I do wish they served plates that weren’t plastic. It just seems very wasteful.
