This place is amazing. Food, drinks, and service was on point! Had lunch and came back for happy hour. Sal, the manager, was super friendly and on top of everything even during the busy lunch hour.
Delicious meal! I was so impressed with the variety of flavors & fresh ingredients. The prickly pear margarita & coconut flan were divine. Beautiful setting too with an amazing patio.
We we recommended this place by the Driskill in their restaurant guide so decided to give it a try. Only a five minute walk from the Driskill we found it easily and chose a good time to eat as it wasn’t full.
Saying that service was great and the food and beer were delicious.
I went for the Quesadillas with beef which was very good value and delicious what more could you ask for; oh yes a good selection of Mexican beer.

I was in Austin for a conference, and I went with a few colleagues for dinner at Manuel’s. I had been there several years ago and liked it, and it was fairly close to our hotel. There were seven of us, the restaurant is reasonably large, and was only about half full around 7 pm, so there wasn’t any problem getting a table.
As we looked over the menu, we were served a couple of baskets of fairly standard chips and salsa. Okay, but nothing special. We ordered some guacamole for the table. It wasn’t completely smooth, which was okay; it had some texture. It was lightly mixed with some diced tomatoes and onions, with just a bit of lemon dressing, so it was mostly the earthy avocado flavor that came through. It was served in a small tortilla shell, so you could munch on that too.
I chose the Chicken Fajitas as my main dish. Lots of seasoned, grilled chicken on top of sautéed bell peppers and onions. I think the veggies could have been cooked a little bit longer. It was served with black beans in one of those tortilla shells, along with cheese, diced tomatoes and more guac. The flour tortillas served rolled up in wax paper, so the last ones had cooled to room temperature.
Service was pretty good and there were some mixed results, but overall my expectations were met. However, the meal was really about reconnecting with colleagues.
Manuel's is one of those upscale cantinas that you don't feel weird working into with shorts on. With that being said, the table work is gorgeous, drinks are quite strong, and the cuisine above par. My enchiladas were rich, filling and delectable. The old style interior queso was an experience as well. Much thicker and creamier than your usual Tex mex variety, almost like fondue. Very enjoyable, great for a first date.
A bit on the pricy side. The food is decent enough, but it doesn't seem quite worth the price on the door. Also, if you have a group, make sure you call ahead - it's not quite the best place for an on-a-whim group meal.
Get the enchiladas with mole. Divine. And the tequila cocktails are to die for. Loved it. Sit at the bar for an extra treat and chat with the bartenders.

The service was attentive, yet not overbearing. The food was great (I had the molé enchiladas with pork), and the cucumber lime martini was fantastic. I will be back on my next trip to Austin!

Very good food, service and ambiance. I had the beef and chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. Amazing! Never had mole before and it was wonderful. Portions were reasonable, not overly large but plenty filling. Highly recommend this place!
Overall the food was pretty good. Loved the soup & the tacos were tasty. The flan was delicious! The table next to us was extremely loud but other than that it was great

It’s easy to see why this restaurant has been around for so long. The Texas grilled shrimp for the fajitas were grilled just like you want them to be. You can’t beat 4 thumbs up from 4 diners.
Lovely food, great service. Had a cheese enchilada in a pork enchilada and a grilled shrimp dish. Both very tasty. Great black beans. On the pricey side, but worth it
Happy hour is great! I love the ceviche and chicken quesadillas! The cucumber martini is a must try! Not a big fan of the beef fajitas. And a big shot out to our waiter! My 1st time here but it won't be my last!!!
Fantastic place for a light dinner or a full, three course meal. Cocktails are delicious, food is fresh and local, and it's quality is as high as any other high-end restaurant.
Although I had just a few appetizers and first courses, I could tell the attention to details is superb.
The vibe here is nice: Latin music, but not too loud, and the clientele is neither pretentious nor cheeky.
One of the best things though was the service: pleasant, professional and quick.
Last but not least: very fair prices; you can get change from 50$ for dinner, after tax and tipping.
Our server Mario was great! Quick to offer sauteed spinach as an option with my meal (in place of rice and beans)... and it was great! Great service from him for sure!
First time in Austin, thank you Google for recommendations. Drinks were amazing thanks to our amazing bartender Chris. He also recommended out dinner, Lomo de Puerco and parrilla drum. Def recommend this spot, will def revisit, Great chips and salsa also. clean spot super friendly staff, Sal the manager was also super friendly!!! Come check it out.😜
So happy this place is still an Austin staple. I've been going to this restaurant for the last 10yrs and it never disappoints! Its interior mexican food, so don't expect pinto beans! The ceviche is killer, the drinks are awesome, the staff is incredibly hospitable, and it's a perfect way to start any Austin evening. Enjoy.
First of all, they're a staple that's been cooking regional Mexican food since 1984 in Austin. They have an incredible happy hour, live music for Sunday brunch, two locations (downtown and Great Hills). They have a 200 year old double Oak Tree that provides the shade needed in the Texas heat. I recommend you try their Cucumber Lime Skinny Martini with some grilled fish tacos!
