Frontside Cafe

Don't think I'll be back. I've driven by many times, but I'm rarely in town when they're open. From the exterior it looks like a nice, casual neighborhood place, so we had lunch there today. My sense is that they just don't quite get it. The food is just okay. They try to yuppie it up by having things like pesto tortillas and veggie burgers and things, but they seem to have just grabbed ideas from other cafes without really knowing why. Service is really not good-- the wait staff are clearly not well trained. Example: When I was served a glass of tea, the wait person put it on top of the menu. The spoon with the tea fell to the ground as she served me, but she didn't remove it or offer a clean spoon. Thank goodness I don't use sugar. We waited for about ten minutes for the wait person to take my payment, and I finally had to go inside. When she saw me with the bill and money in hand, she asked "can I help you?" which I think should have been obvious. But what really makes me sour about anyone who waits on me is when they take your money and ask if you want change. No professional would ever blindly assume that you don't want the change so you can make an appropriate tip. She didn't do this to me, but I heard her ask this of another customer. The wait staff overall just seem to be taking up space, without really understanding what their job should be. Given the limited operating hours and the so-so food, it's just not worth my time.
