This location is bottom of the barrel with customer service. I simply needed to order a shrimp tempura roll and was told NO. I had to order from the specified lunch menu only. Note they have a full menu. It was due to o lu ha being 2 workers. I honestly didn’t mind waiting for what I wanted to pay for. So I will not be returning.

I love Kanpai restaurant - they're such a wonderful little locally owned restaurant that's one of the best Japanese comfort-food spots in the DMV. Kanpai is best known for their fantastic lunch specials. When I worked in the neighborhood I would go over and get a wonderful katsu lunch plate for right around $10. But Kanpai is even better for dinner, and if Rosslyn was more active in the evenings I think Kanpai get the recognition it deserves. I love going to Kanpai in the evening and enjoying their really well curated list of noodle dish specials like nabeyaki udon and zaru soba depending on the season. You can even get handmade yaki onigiri that looks and tastes flawless. Any place that keeps a natto handroll on the menu cares about the details - I don't even like natto and I still order it every time I go just on principle. Give Kanpai a chance to be more than a business lunch and you'll find a real neighborhood gem.

Great food! I always loved japanese cruisine and I can tell that they always serve fresh food, the prices are reasonable of course. the japanese have such raw food and they need best ones to avoid poisoining. thumbs up! 10/10 recommended.

I just can't understand any hate on this place. The ingredients are always fresh as can be, the service is prompt and professional, it's reasonably priced for the area, and everything's clean. Try the Chesapeake roll - I know it sounds a little weird but the thought to sprinkle a little old bay on sushi was delicious and inventive IMO.

Superb sushi and amazing teriyaki. Goya dumpings were the best! Reasonably priced and AWESOME food. Going back ASAP.

Everything was delicious: the sushi, the teriyaki, and even the miso soup. Will be going back.

My friend and I came 30 mins before closing and before we sat down they said we need to hurry. Then the waitress wanted us to move to the back which seemed it was due to our race. After, we sat down she rushed us and did not pay attention to the order in detail. The order came out wrong, they she stated we needed to cancel our order and pretty much leave. If they did not want to take any more customers for the evening, I would of preferred they just say that instead of giving rushed, unprofessional service.

I'm honestly not sure I understand the 5 star ratings. Seriously, these people probably got chatty with the owners and felt guilty for not giving them a great rating. I went once and said that I'd never go again because it honestly just wasn't worth it. The sushi was OK and the water was warm. But then I went again with my partner and it was still the lackluster experience that I had the first time. Tables are sticky, I hate that my skin gets STUCK to them. The water was WARM again. No ice. The sauce that they put on the cabbage was literally just mayonnaise and ketchup mixed together. It was gross. I just wish they could step up their game. My partner loves sushi but didn't even finish the roll. "Eel roll could've been better". Everything about this place reeks of "could've been better"
