Rail Yard Restaurant

We met up with some friends to wander the ghost town in Pamplin & walk some of the High Bridge trail and stumbled upon the Rail Yard. I had the vegetarian combination with butter beans, mac-n-cheese, corn pudding and some baked apples. The rest of the table opted for BBQ sandwiches as well as some sides. The meat eaters said the BBQ sandwiches were great and they came with an assortment of sauces. The mac-n-cheese was creamy, cheesy and with shell pasta (there is an elbow shortage I am told), both of us that ordered it enjoyed it. We all agreed the corn pudding was the star of the meal. I decided to order a Blueberry biscuit. The biscuit itself was amazing. The perfect balance of sweetness and moisture. The icing was lacking but maybe it was just off that day. Service was great. Price was great. Food was great. Oh, and the nerd in us really dug the antique train items on display. Nice addition of Americana flair. Well done.

Nice hole in the wall. Enjoyed a BLT on whole wheat with a side of fried okra and fried apples. Yum! Waitress very friendly and chatty but slow on the refills and getting us checked out. Of course, we were the only 2 people in the place until the rain stopped, then the dining room quickly filled up. Obviously popular.

Great food and prices! Alex is great too! Yet as for the bar goes the bartender is the worst one I’ve ever seen. She made us wait 30 minutes while sitting at the bar to poor our beers. Then we got shots of tequila and didn’t get salt or lemons. It wasn’t busy and she was as personable as an inmate from sing sing. If you can’t get served how are you supposed to drink? This happened twice and I just go there for the food and everyone else. I’d have given them a five star rating if not for the bar experience.

Honestly, the food was good, the prices are excellent and the wait time for the food was good. However, before I could put the last bite of my food in my mouth, she was reaching for my plate to clear our table. Everyone else had JUST BARELY put their last bites in their mouths. WAY TOO RUSHED. It seemed she was more focused on getting us out than our actual service. Young dark/black haired girl. Other than that, I would definitely recommend the Rail Yard as a nice little stop in either on your way to or from Appomattox Battlefield.

Been here a few times first few amazing this time service sucked ordered breakfast took almost 40 minutes to get it when we did kids eggs were cold. Paying took another 25 minutes or so just to go. They either need to put a wait list in place or hire some more help. No one helps each other no team work at all. Will not return!
