This is a "Pocket Garcia's kitchen. I think there are four, maybe five tables inside. Most of the business here is drive through. I have been eating GK food for decades, because I love it. You can buy tortillas by the dozen, which people do in their thousands. They are the best flour tortillas on the planet. Don't look for fancy fajitas or sopapillas. These restaurants are patronized by so many native or honorary-native New Mexicans. Everything on the extensive menu is honest, excellent and local food. We bring our visitors here for the real deal in Central Rio Grande food. We had another favorite New Mexican food place that did not survive the pandemic, but this Garcia's Kitchen is a block away, so we visit often. Thanks!
Just a darn good experience. This little extension of the great local family restaurants has hit it out of the ballpark. I don't know how I've missed it. I'll be a regular here for sure.

One of my students mentions to me often how her and her family like to go to Garcia's especially on Friday. After a doctor's appointment I decided to stop in with a friend today and have some lunch. I liked the energy of all of the staff everybody was very professional the establishment was very clean the atmosphere was most acceptable and I definitely enjoyed the food. I can totally understand why my student and her family enjoy going to Garcia's regularly and I believe I shall make it a regular stop when I am also out and about. I do however wish that they had cilantro as a garnishing on the food I am rather particular to cilantro when eating any kind of Mexican or new Mexican food.
I bought take out via the drive thru window and did not go inside, but
I am pleased to say that the food was delicious and very reasonably priced.
I enjoy New Mexico food when visiting, Garcia's was recommended to me, so I now recommend it to everybody out there.
Garcia’s is a pillar of classic, NM food. They are usually consistent with quality, taste, prices, and service. However, I recommend dining in rather than takeout. We prefer the sit down locations but we were in a bit of a hurry so we did drive through. We don’t live far from this location but by the time we got home my partner’s tacos were soggy and literally fell apart as soon as he picked them up. My Indian taco was delicious albeit a little on the greasy side. Garcia’s remains one of our favorite places but as I mentioned, dining in is definitely the way to go. If you can make it to one of the other locations, I definitely recommend doing that.
1st time at San Mateo store. Always great food! Happy camper here!
