Great atmosphere! Sunday brunch was AWESOME! Andre was an outstanding bartender. It was rather busy and might i say a bit hectic. However, he was very attentive. Definitely coming back for Sunday brunch soon! Taelor was great also.....the Queen of the bar...might I say. She's great at making special drinks and very friendly. It felt like I was at my bar at home and not just at any regular bar. Ben's Upstairs is for sure a place that I recommend just to go relax and enjoy life. We held my birthday celebration at Ben's Upstairs. Everyone was pleased with the service, ambiance, and space. The food was great and the bartenders quick to serve and accommodate special drink requests. As always, Manuel was fabulous to work with. We can't wait to plan the next event at BU's!
I agree with another comment concerning the portion size of the Shrimp and grits, it was good, but not enough food if you are hunger. I've posted a pic. The service was good, it started off rocky, but got better. Maybe too many people or just distracted by their friends. FYI the bathrooms are unisex!
Pretty surprised. Service slow but the bar tender actually came out to serve us at a table. Super cool and helpful. The food I was skeptical but, it was very good. Flavorful. Good price and decent servings. New menu and the Mac’n cheese is gone but, the food is good. Definitely will return.
Great spot, great roof top bar, come for the food and drink, stay for the comedy on Thursday nights!

Tried for the first time tonight and had a great time! Our bartender was April who was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and made some great drinks! All the staff was very friendly! We ordered a few small plates and our food was served quickly and came out hot. The pulled pork sandwich and gnocchi were both amazing. We will definitely be going back to check out the rooftop soon and see the new menu.
I really like this place, especially the rooftop. The bartenders are always nice and if they don't know something, they'll definitely go find the answer for you instead of saying "I don't know". Just one note, in the evenings the rooftop tables don't have servers so you have to go to the bar to place your orders which can be kind of annoying, especially if the bar is crowded. Not sure if this is the case every evening the rooftop is open but it was when I went 2 weeks ago. The food is pretty good and they do have specialty drinks. The prices are what you'd expect from a place in DC so don't come expecting Friday's or Ruby Tuesday prices. Totally recommend.
I have hosted two events at Ben's Upstairs. Most recently for a surprise birthday party on the rooftop. Manuel and April were a joy to work with as well as the wait staff. They were super accommodating and treated the guest of honor very well. The rooftop was a beautiful backdrop and the food and music added to the celebratory ambience.
I suggest asking in advance about how to reserve the rooftop, ordering food platters and information on happy hour specials if you are hosting an event. All of the above were affordable and made my guests feel even better!
Cool calm and nice spot to come enjoy off of H St. Def a recommended place for events or just to have a good drink. The food was superb chicken and waffles was what i order. The chicken was definitely breaded to perfection and just as tender as if it was picked from a farm that day. The waffle was crispy soft and moist. Service was fast and worth tipping.
Ben's Upstairs was pretty good! I've only been here once but I definitely recommend the half smoke. The half smoke was tasty and the chili and cheese were the perfect topping for the half smoke. Upstairs there is a roof top for the smokers. I really enjoyed my time at this location.
