Coffy Cafe

I’m so glad I finally got around to trying this place. I love supporting places that have vegan options and clearly label them. I got rice and fava beans, tomato and cucumber salad, Persian fries, and the marinated olive salad. The marinated olive salad was one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten. Everything else was fresh and delicious and portion sizes were medium/large. I would definitely eat here again.

Kookoo restaurant is an Authentic Persian restaurant in Columbia Heights, DC. The owner Yahya is the master chef. We were seated immediately and our server brought us bread and a dish of feta cheese, walnut and herbs. I really wish they had some Persian bread in the basket. We ordered drinks and appetizers. The appetizers were delicious. For main dish we ordered Khorramshahr Baghali and Gigot of Lamb. They were both superb. Prices are very reasonable. The owner is very friendly and stops by at all tables and talks to everyone. I highly recommend this restaurant.

As sad as I was to see Coffy Cafe leave, the owner has opened a BEAUTIFUL and DELICIOUS Persian food spot. The food is great and both the beef stew and chicken skewers fall apart in your mouth. I would say the ambiance is surprisingly top notch — a perfect place the chat with enough hustle and bustle but still quiet and intimate. The service is great, very attentive and the staff- just like coffy cafe is friendly and polite and create a true neighborhood spot. Making this part of my regular rotation in the area.

Koo Koo is a delightful new Persian restaurant and a wonderful new dining addition to the DC market. Our food was incredibly tasty and perfectly made with exquisite blend of spices and flavors. We enjoyed the many delicious appetizers from the potato koo koo, to masto khiar which was garnished with rose buds, to the Persian fries that were flavored with sumac. Next, we feasted on the chicken kabob skewers with saffron rice and the salmon which was equally scrumptious! There is a wide selection of drinks from wine and beer to sangria. We had dinner with my 86 year old father, husband and 13 year old son and everyone across this wide generation left feeling incredibly satisfied and that’s because the food is authentic, delicious and served with great love. I've been excited for this place to open for so long now, I couldn't believe it when I walked by and saw the door open! I had to visit the same night. I shared a few dishes with friends and they were all delicious - the bread with herbs and cheese they brought out was a wonderful touch, and the kashkeh bademjan was so good, I can't wait to have it again. The quality and presentation of the food were far better than my photos of it!

What an amazing addition to the neighborhood! We attended the soft launch and loved that there was a modern yet warm and familial ambience. My favorites were the kashkeh bademjan (eggplant appetizer) and the ghormeh sabzi (beef and kidney bean stew). It tasted like it came right out of my mom’s kitchen. We’ll be coming back with friends!
