We were pleasantly surprised with our meals. The chicken makheni and lamb kebob was tender and juicy. The lamb seemed a tad dried out but it was tender inside. The portions were the right size.
This is our go to spot for neighborhood Indian. It’s comfortable/cozy, with booth seating for most and some tables outside as well. The food is consistently good, as is service.
A few people mentioned the Crackling Spinach is really, so we certainly had to try it :). Definitely good, loved the crunch on it, and the tamarind chutney went really great with it. Also got Mango scallops, could have been better with a bit more of a spice kick and bit less of sweetness. Also got, Lamb saag and salli Shrimp. Both good, but we liked the Shrimp salli more. Could have been happier with a little more salli (potato strips). Overall had a great experience.
Terrific!. I went to this place with my wife and two friends. It's great! Service is good, atmosphere is very nice, and the food was terrific. I want to go again soon!
Lmh. Delicious food + great service = Wonderful dining experience! That equation is found at Cafe of India
Best Indian restaurant I have been to in DC. Café of India is relatively new to this neighborhood, and I hope they are here to stay. My husband and I have visited two or three times for dinner, and have found the food excellent, and the service very friendly and attentive. It is a clean and quiet place with tablecloths and cloth napkins and thus has a relatively upscale feel, but the prices are mid-range.
A few weeks ago, I went back with my parents who were visiting from Europe, and we had their $10.95 lunch platters. This was a really great value. We had a choice of four out of eight different entrees (vegetarian and non-vegetarian), which were all delicious, and a great way to sample their menu. My dad really knows his Indian food, and he was very glad we went here. I especially liked the Lamb Korma, but all the dishes were great (admittedly, I thought the Palak Cheese was a bit bland, but then again that's not a dish I usually go for, so maybe it's just not my cup of tea). The four little bowls that each platter comprised amounted to a generous portion, and were accompanied by rice and plenty of naan. At the end, we received a complimentary dessert, a small bowl of a sweet carrot dish with cardamom and cashews, which was delicious. The service, again, was extremely polite and attentive. I highly recommend this place.
Great lunch special. Lunch is great, very nice decor.
I've discovered my new favorite Indian restaurant and the best part is, it's affordable and easy to get to! Great service, creative menu, beautiful setting.
Cafe of India is a hidden gem! Warm, attentive service and fresh, delicious food that very well-priced stand out. The space is quiet and elegant without feeling stuffy. The food was mouth-watering from start to finish! Will be a new favorite.
We were pleasantly surprised. Usually when I see an empty restaurant I immediatly assume there must be something wrong with the food. To my surprise it was very good- the chicken tikka masala was exactly what I wanted. Great place to go if you want good food and quiet, mello atmosphere.
Some of the best Indian food I’ve had in DC. I liked the chicken tikka masala specifically because it was very rich and creamy. A lot of places make it watery which I don’t like, but Cafe of India made it perfectly.
Very good authentic food and customer service was also great. Best Indian place in the Georgetown area!!!
First time visiting cafe of India, little small cozy restaurant in DC, Telneytown.
Food was amazing punjabi style had Kadai Paneer ,Lamb Biryani,Butter Naan.Kadai paneer tasty and soft paneer melts in your mouth.
Lamb Biryani was tasty no smell in lamb and tender, usually some restaurants the lamb is smelly.
Interiors say its own by Punjabi Guy.
Must try this place.
Service I wish could give 6 stars as our server suggested our meals.
I am professional in Hotel Industry only reveiw those places which actually deserve on my view.
You know how sometimes you go to a place and the food just isn’t the same the second time around? Well not this place! It never, ever, disappoints. I can’t recommend this place enough. The food is fantastic and the service is great. Best Indian I’ve had in DC. They have great lunch specials. Don’t sleep on this.

The food is prepared well, served hot, and tastes good, and the portions are perfect. I always feel well-fed and satisfied with never any worry about exotic flavors or spices that might not agree with me. The Naan bread something I particularly look forward to. The setting is clean and neat, not overdone, just right. Service is professional and accurate. The food seems to be prepared to order since it doesn’t come out quickly but it doesn’t take any longer than reasonable for a properly prepared meal.
Been going for years and it gets tastier every time! Great atmosphere and music in the background. Food is amazing, would recommend the lunch special which comes with 3 portions of what you choose on their specials list. The lunch specials do depend on what day you go, so definitely check their website! Brought my parents and grandmother and we all loved it.
Increasingly kind staff, amazing service, and food to match!! The lunch sample menu was perfect! Absolutely a new favorite!
Best Indian food ever! My new favorite spot. The staff was amazing, the food was delicious. This is the place to go if you want try new Indian foods.
I was visiting American University today and we really wanted Indian food so stumbled on this spot. The food was amazing!! We made it in time for the lunch thalis and it was the perfect way to try multiple dishes. One of our group is vegetarian and it was super easy for her to find amazing food. The staff were so accommodating and friendly!
My wife and I keep enjoying this restaurant and the great food every time we go there. The service is amazing, the food is so fresh and delicious. We had the crackling spinach, chicken masala, Channa curry, and the garlic nan. All were truly amazing. The waiter brought us the Pista Kheer (rice pudding) because we mentioned that we were full but we always liked this desert.
Can’t wait to go back there again soon.
