The food was great! The spice level was pretty much perfect for me; the chef didn’t over do the spices and the flavor balanced.
I am used to eating bigger portions, and hope the portions size was a bit bigger.
I also loved that their beer selection included some beers from Indian inspired breweries.
Bindaas is a really trendy Indian street food restaurant, with a wide variety of options on the menu. Including vegetarian and vegan selections (which is always great to see, and allows me to venture out). I’ve been to Indian restaurants countless times - but their take and focus on street food is one which is truly unique and translates well into the entire experience.
We ordered several options from the Chaat (savoury snacks) section of the menu and ate family style; I was blown away by everything that we tried. The Gunpowder fries were a real hit as was the Shrimp Bezule - and both of these would definitely have me going back for more.
For my entree, I asked for something as spicy as possible 🌶️- because I have a real palette for spicy food and drinks! Our server recommended the Lamb Curry (on the menu under Street Karee), and I really liked all of the flavours. Was it what I would consider spicy? Not really - but I still really enjoyed the meal.
Overall the service was good/fair… There was a bit of a lag in time when we ordered coffees, but this could have been because it was a busy Friday at lunchtime.
With this in mind, I would also recommend making reservations to make sure you don’t even up having to wait long to be seated.
Bindaas is a wonderful Indian street-food restaurant located near the heart of DC.
The exterior is warm, colorful, and easy to find. Inside is much the same, but is coupled with a very friendly staff who are quick to welcome and seat you.
As for the food, it was excellent and served impressively fast for how many people were dining around us. We got the chicken curry puffs, the Parsi fried chicken, the lamb goli shashlik, and the garlic-cilantro naan, which were all very, very delicious and piping hot!
For drinks, our lovely waitress suggested the Fool’s Gold and Green With Envy cocktails which were a big hit with us.
And for dessert (which we somehow got convinced to get even though our stomachs were close to popping) we had a chocolate raspberry cake and a mango milk cake of some sort—both were amazing.
My recommendation: go visit Bindaas and order whatever the servers suggest! It’s a wonderful restaurant!
I really enjoyed the Indian street food here. They gave a cool twist to the Vadapav with jalapeno chutney, and the Panipuri was awesome too. If you like trying different flavors, I totally recommend it!
Nice Menu, good combination of street food and Indian delicacies…pls try tamarind soda..it was awesome. Chicken tikka masala and paneer lababdar were also great. Kathi rolls chicken also yum.
If you want to experience non traditional Indian food, I highly recommend to add bindaas to your list. They have chaat and South Indian breakfast items, which aren’t usually sold in typical Indian restaurants. And these are definitely worth giving a try.
Came here for restaurant week, however this is not our first time here and we love the traditional bindaas menu items. Especially the uthappams etc.. for restaurant week, they had a couple of items from bindaas menu like the pani puri & Dahi vada. The entrees were more from the other restaurants and so were the desserts. Regardless we did enjoy the food and desserts.
I really enjoyed the food at this restaurant. We got a bunch of appetizers instead of ordering any mains. The Papdi Chat and avocado gol gappa were delicious. The mango pani puri was interesting (but not my favorite). Ragda pattice was also yummmm. Highly recommend! The non alcoholic drinks made in house were also tasty!
Good Indian food with some twist in ingredients.
In jain options we tried Mango Panipuri, Dahiwada, and Paneer Makhani.
In non jain we tried PavBhaji, Bhelpuri, and Mushroom Dosa.
The staff was very helpful in recommending food which could be customised to jain.
Reservations can be helpful if visiting in big groups as the place is always full.
Excellent take on Indian street food with very good but brisk service - Food comes up very quick!!
Owned by the same folks as Rasika (a highly awarded indian restaurant) with none of their snobby attitude.
We tried the mango pani puri - excellent variation on a traditional street food. A mini puri filled with chopped mango that you fill with the pani - in this case a sauce.
Mushroom uthappam - excellent variation on a traditional breakfast item.
Shrimp Bezule - lots of shrimp toasted with mustard seeds and curry leaves.
Gunpowder fries - crispy and crunchy
Kheema naan - naan stuffed with lamb - was a bit bland
Kheema Pao - was just ok. Ground Lamb didn't do much for us.
Chooza - chicken kabab on a skewer over yellow rice. Was just ok.
Lamb Rogan josh - subtly spicy and melt in mouth tender lamb
Bengali fish curry - very thin curry but flavorful with eggplant
The naans are the highlight here - light, airy and fluffy.
Kulfi and sticky date pudding were excellent desserts.
The green envy cocktail was excellent with overtones of mint and spice - very well done.
After receiving an estimated wait time of 2 hours at Founding Farmer’s, we decided to go here. The service and food were exceptional. The kitchen was willing to customize a dish for vegetarian needs, I ordered paneer tikka masala despite it not being on the menu. The sauce was perfectly seasoned and the rice as well. The only critique would be the smaller portion size compared to other Indian restaurants. Despite this, I will likely be back.
