You’re coming here for the food and the history, not the service. When we first walked in, there was a couple in front of us so we waited for a few. When a few people got up at the bar, we asked the couple if they were waiting on a table and they said yes, so we started walking towards the bar to take those stools. This was our first mistake because the owner/manager/whomever quickly barked out to me to “not bum rush” her and to wait my turn. When we were finally seated at a table, she was our waitress, along with another girl helping, and it was just rush led and not personal at all. She told the table behind us when they asked for a refill of coffee that she wasn’t making anymore because it was too close to closing time. This was at 12:30 and they closed at 2pm. The food was pretty good with the pancakes with cinnamon being the biggest hit. The sweet tea was very surprisingly good. Come because this place does have some historical significance but don’t expect any sort of “southern hospitality”.
Delicious Traditional Dinner! A great option for brunch! A friend recommended this place for brunch. It was totally worth it. The food is great and the prices as well. I ordered the Bertha’s Breakfast Special. If this is the first time you visit this place, I would recommend this dish. Service could take a while if it is busy hours.
The best soul food, the best service. Historic atmosphere. Frankly I feel privileged just to walk through the front door. But the catfish for breakfast? Perfection. And the cherry on top? Crushed ice and fruit punch.
