Husband in town for work, so followed for a day trip. St. Andrew's is a quick walk, so off we go! Long list of mussels variations to choose from, so I start with traditional wine sauce w/garlic and fresh cilantro. If it passes with the "original" recipe, then I'll tipple into a new variation. A+ for classic, so I step out of my comfort zone and go with Spicy Italian Sausage w/red peppers and onions. OFF THE HOOK! The sauce had crushed tomatoes, large strips of red peppers and purple onions and chunks of mildly spiced Italian sausage. Fresh/homemade tasting w/subtle ending heat, not overpowering. Paired perfectly with buttery mussels. Serve with choice of bread or fries. The au jus would have been perfect over a mound of sticky rice to continue, but opted for more bread. There are a decent choice of signature beers on tap, and an equally eclectic list for bottled. Going in the books for a return.
Really loved this place! Spent my time downstairs at the bar and enjoyed excellent beer recommendations from the bartender. He also recommended the Blue Cheese and Bacon mussels, which I give 5 stars!! Would be a great casual date spot or a fun girls night dinner and drinks local. I highly recommend it. A two minute walk from Cleveland Park metro station!
Have you ever had a dream about the perfect burger? Ever wonder what the perfect burger dreams about? Are you starting to notice a pattern about burgers? Trust me, this is the best burger in DC. Yes, the taste is slightly different from your standard American classic, but their take is simply mind blowing. You don't have to agree with me, but you should definitely check it out for yourself.
Oh, and their mussels deserve a bit of focus. I grew up on seafood, and being a Marylander I am a bit of a seafood snob (and know most people in DC haven't a clue what good seafood is). Without going too much into my home state seafood snobbery, the mussels at St. Arnold's are novel, well prepared, and simply unforgettable.
Blue cheese and bacon mussels were fantastic and beer just as tasty! Would eat these mussels everyday if I could. Service was a little slow but otherwise a great experience. The bread pudding was an awesome closer. You should check this place out the next time you're in the area.
This place, just wow!
I got excited when I saw the beer and Mussel selection- but to sit at the bar and get treated like a regular by Kat was the out of this world experience we long for in a neighborhood spot when we travel.
We got here right when happy hour started and I can’t say I’ve ever been to a more fruitful happy hour for the value and quality.
Highly recommend everything about this place!
Amazing! So glad my favorite restaurant in DC is back after the pandemic. Quality is just as great: tasty food and great Belgium beer selection! PS: bathrooms got remo'ed and they're spacious and clean.
An absolute must if you are in DC and love mussels. I’ve been here 3 times and it honestly never gets old. The space is very small but it makes it more intimate and adds to the great vibe.
An interesting bar, smaller than others but enjoyable. The service (bartenders) were really nice! I asked for a beer recommendation and got the best choice! (We watched the final match of the Liga MX, the Mexican Championship) and we liked the place. Thank you!
St Arnold’s is extremely consistent. We go here often on Monday evenings for Trivia. The food is overall really good, and the service is really lovely with a kind staff. I do get frustrated about the amount of money I have spent when leaving. The beers are mostly really pricey as is the food. I feel the price point should be a bit lower for the atmosphere to match (more bar/pub).
Awesome little pub. Very busy, beer was great.. Wish they had a few more German food items? But other than that, the place was great and would go back definitely.. Can definitely tell it's a local place..
Had been waiting to come here since they reopened and it did not disappoint. Plan to come back and try all the mussels on the menu. Had no idea it came with fries and bread! Which is the BEST so you can soak up all the delicious broth. Shout out to my man Jim who took such amazing care of us. Great selection of beers on tap. We got the pear arugula salad with chicken, Thai curry mussels, and the wheat beer. All 10 outta 10. Can't wait to visit again.
This is a hidden neighborhood gem. From the street it looked closed but once you walk in, it's a very lively place where you can have a tasty lunch and catch a sports game. The actual mussles were nice and meaty and the service was prompt and friendly. For my order, I added shrimp. For the $5 upgrade, I literally had 5 pieces of meduim-sized shrimp. But overall, I was well-pleased with the mussels and the variety on the menu.
Fantastic mussels and a great Belgian beer selection. When you see Straffe Hendrik on tap, you know it’s a great place. The original St Arnold’s mussels were delicious with great broth for dipping your bread. The frites were perfect and included mayo for dipping. Thanks to our super friendly bartender! Sad I didn’t get her name, but she was great! Bonus…friendly patrons at the bar with us. Overall great experience and highly recommend if you love Belgian beers and/or mussels and frites.
Best mussels in DC, and a "must visit" if you're here and like mussels. They come in a big pot with fries and the broth they cook them in. I've only ever been pre-covid and it's back open.
