Review The Pig - Washington DC

Sam M
One of My favorite BBQ restaurants in DC. I visited this place several times and really had a great experience. This place could get pretty busy during the weekend dinner service, so I would definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Inside of the restaurant was relatively clean and had enough seating for big groups. Pretty much all the dishes I tried here were delicious, but my favorite was pork chops and smoked ribs. They also have an extensive drink and dessert menu. I really loved their strawberry shortcake. It literally melts in your mouth. Servers were very friendly and attentive during the whole dinner. I highly recommend this restaurant for some good BBQ!

Looking for an interesting place to eat, bumped across this restaurant. With a name of The Pig how could I not try it out? šŸ˜€ It wasn't too full when we first arrived there, around 6:30pm on a Saturday night, but it got much busier and louder by the time we left. Started off with some wine and a Shirley mocktail. The wine was fine and I liked the taste of the mocktail too. We split a beet salad as an appetizer, which was nice, but wish there was a higher beets to arugala ratio. That was followed by the heritage shank and the crackling pork belly. The heritage shank was very nicely done and we both enjoyed it. The pork belly was also good, though one criticism I would level is the crackling wasn't what I'm used to. But that's probably because I'm fond of the Chinese pork crackling style which is airy, crunchy and shatters as you chew it. The texture of this crackling is much thinner and more solid. I suspect the sauce applied to the top also made it less crunchy and tougher to chew/cut through. But this is just my style preference. We finished off with a gluten free brownie, which was slightly dry, but the ice cream and whipped cream helped moisten it. One thing I would have loved to try was the suckling pig, but you have to order ahead for that. Another time maybe! Service was efficient and friendly, with food served quickly, with the exception of the dessert, oddly. Though that could have been due to it getting busy at the end. Overall, liked the restaurant and the food.

I really enjoyed dining at the pig during my last trip to DC, the staff was nice and courteous, the food was delicious, with locally sourced ingredients and prepared with love and care. The restaurant is cozy and intimate. We did however have two problems. First, we ordered two sides that never made it to the table. Second, the fan over our heads forced us to keep the jackets on for the longest part of our dinner. A real shame, 'cause the food was really, really tasty. I loved the chicken above all, it was juicy and soft, the sauce delicate and delicious.

One of my favourite places to eat in DC. No one makes pork like they do here. Highly recommend the face bacon as a starter- ridiculously rich, tender, and flavourful following either a generous roasting or braising and with a perfect crust on the outside from fry afterwards. Best to also get a salad in preparation for all the meat to come. The pork shank is a must order- their preparation of it changes from time to time I think but it is always delicious. The butcherā€™s block is also a great way to sample an array of their offerings including the amazing pulled pork, ribs, and sausage. The fried onions that came with the platter might have been the only miss of the night as they were soggy and under-seasoned- forgivable in light of everything else that was otherwise phenomenal. The service was excellent- our waitress was super friendly and ultra enthusiastic, to the point where she often came by before we even had a chance to start to ask us how the dishes were! Phenomenal place that I will probably come back to every time Iā€™m back in the area. Highly recommend.

I really like The Pig. Iā€™ve been 3 times (once pre-COVID-19 Pandemic and twice in the Pandemic) and have consistently enjoyed my experience. At its core, The Pig is a barbecue joint. It does offer some upscale and fancier items, which I like. The hi-low effect is well done at The Pig. The dining room is dimly lit and cozy with its wood booths and industrial finishes. The addition of the patio offers a more casual outdoor experience. Some of my favorite items include their St. Louis Smoked Ribs and Brisket Ragu. The ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender and perfectly smoked and sauced. Honestly, the side dishes are nice accompaniments, but donā€™t necessarily augment the dish. The Brisket Ragu is a perfect hi-low dish offering tender chunks of smoked brisket in a delicate, unctuous tomato and red wine sauce that beautifully coats chewy tagliatelle pasta. My favorite item on the menu is the Heritage Shank. (ā€œ12-hour confit pork shank, Yunnan potato puree, leafy spinach, roasted garlic and ginger gastric [sic].ā€) Itā€™s a special dish that offers a generous portion of tender and juicy pork whose taste is amplified by the side dishes. The ginger gastrique is exceptional and balances the fatty richness of the pork. I will say, like many restaurants after these past two years, The Pigā€™s menu has shrunk. I really miss some of their signature items, like their bone marrow appetizer. They were unique, exceptionally delicious dishes that should return. Moreover, the portion sizes have definitely gotten smaller. Lastly, service 2/3 of the times Iā€™ve been have been stellar, with attentive and kind wait staff. The other time Iā€™ve been, our server was nice enough, but forgot several things we asked for (an alteration to a dish, ordering another drink, and bringing us more napkins).

Fantastic little place with a bit of something for everyone. Ambience and decor is top notch, food is American and a bit eclectic. Beef, chicken, and veg options for those who donā€™t love pork. Food was prepared and presented amazingly well, our family (incl two kids) were all impressed.

Okay, here me out. If you or your partner havenā€™t eaten anything since breakfast and HAS been walking around DC ALL day and youā€™re looking for some food to eat? Iā€™d recommend the Pig! My boyfriend and I have made a list of food places to go before going on our trip and so we can just pick and go.They have some great appetizers and entrees, drinks are delish, dessert is also delishā€¦ but what really amazed me is our server Kima. She was super knowledgeable, blissful, great personality and her customer service is on point. Thatā€™s what I usually look for when eating out. We love to eat but we also like to know what the front of house can do to make our dining experience better. :) Thank you Kima and the Pig (DC).

I guess I'd call this place upscale BBQ. There's a medium sized dining room and a big bar. They have a huge bourbon and whiskey selection. We sat at the bar, and Mallory was super nice and gave us top notch service. We had the smoked ribs platter, and the smoked brisket platter. Both were delicious. The cheddar cornbread with honey butter was amazing, and the peach habanero BBQ sauce served with the brisket was insane. For the two of us, with no appetizers or alcoholic beverages, the check came to $60, so it's not cheap. In terms of quality, the food wasn't much better than a chain place, like Mission BBQ, but in terms of flavor and creativity, it's so much better. Would definitely go back. Parking in the area can be hard to find, especially on weekends. Reservations are highly recommended.

Food: Everything I had here was packed with flavor. The face bacon is definitely worth trying. Kinda like an unctuous pork chop. Sausage sampler was homemade and paired with sauces well. Pork chop was on the bone (flavor!) and grilled just right leaving a hint of lingering smoke. Sauce on it was memorable. Atmosphere: Very chic setting with mixed materials (leather, wood, metal) . Fun and inviting. Great place to meet friends or meet new friends. Service: Was friendly and for the most part was on game

A wonderful BBQ place that filled my BBQ craving. We had the chicken wings to start, they were crispy and the hot sauce was a perfect balance between spicy and flavor. For mains, I got their famous pork/beef mix burger, which was a special of the night. They burger was cooked perfect medium rare and the fries were flavorful and crispy. My friend got a BBQ platter which gave a little bit of everything. The house made sausage was especially good. Overall a great experience! Would love to come back to they out their bunch!

What a great place to eat if you enjoy pork I'd highly recommend trying this place. I had the grilled pork chop and it was phenomenal even the puree on the plate was tasty. The cheesecake was also great. I'd definitely go back in my next DC trip.

Couldn't get a reservation so decided to take a chance at the bar. Had no problem getting stools for our party of three. The bartender was attentive and had a good handle on both the cocktail and food menu. We ordered the pork bun appetizer, she offered to increase the serving to three buns so we could each have one. They were delicious. Then we split the butcher's block which was plenty of food for the three of us. Best bierwurst I've ever had and the ribs were great. They could improve the Mac n cheese though (oak city meatballs in Raleigh is still the winner of that battle).

Corn bread was freshly made along with the blueberry preserves and butter. The thick cut bacon wasn't really bacon- it would qualify as a thin pork chop. I had the pulled pork with fries- very generous serving. He had the burger with bacon and greens. The food was pretty good. Service was good as well.

There was about a half hour wait to get a table on a Wednesday. But that is understandable, given the service and quality of food. The service was top notch, for a good restaurant. The server, Dora, really made us feel like royalty. She was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and after we had eaten, without asking a question, she dropped off the desert menu. Man all the food was good. If you notice in the pictures, the provided knife is totally clean. That's because I totally did not need it for my braised venison. My wife had the pork shank, also scrumptious. If you are in the day area and looking for a top notch restaurant, look no further.

The food here was amazing...we had a lil but if everything. They could use more variety in the drinks menu but not a big deal. 2 must haves, the sticky wings and the cornbread!!! The cornbread is by far the best I've ever tasted!!!!

Our brunch was delicious and there are some many delicious choices. It depends on what you like but everything we had was interesting and tasty. Very nice service, attentive and he made sure that I donā€™t have to worry a out my food allergies! Noise level good for conversation.

I've always wanted to try the Pig, and finally had the chance and came for Happy Hour. The lighting is a little dimmed, and there are several stools at the bar, but it's not a huge bar, so it's best to come early if you want to enjoy their Happy Hour. Ordered the Burnt End Sliders, Grilled Corn, and Pork Belly & Mac. The good: I enjoyed all 3 dishes! The Burnt End Sliders were delicious. It consists of a smoked pork belly, bbq sauce, pickle, and slaw. The buns were soft, and the pork belly was thick and extremely tender. The BBQ sauce wasn't too sweet, and it had the right amount of sauce that wasn't overwhelming. The Grilled Corn was really flavorful and creamy with the yuzu mayo. It also came with togarashi and queso fresco. The corn was grilled really well, but the highlight is the sauce where it was savory. The Pork Belly & Mac consists of a heritage braised pork belly, truffle mac & cheese, and panko. It had a good amount of pork belly mixed in with the mac and cheese. This dish would have been my absolute favorite; however... The bad: Pork Belly & Mac was NOT cheesy enough! I was hoping it could be cheesier, but it was still delicious. That is my only complaint. Overall, I really enjoyed eating at the Pig, and I will definitely return for the other porky dishes!

We visited in December. The restaurant has a diverse group of customers. It was not that big of a place but big enough to seat several tables and not too crowded. Music was playing but not too loud. There are coat hooks near the door which is nice. The place has low lighting and cool decor which we liked to set the tone for a romantic dinner. Our waiter was Bryan S. and he was friendly. Tap water was good. What we ordered: the shank - tender, good flavor, fell easily off the bone, sweet potato puree tasty, not a fan of spinach so didn't eat it, ribs - good flavor, tender and fall off the bone, the fries a bit dry but good seasoning and hand cut, coleslaw was good, pickles were good and sweet, and the brussels had great flavor, spicy. We ordered the apple pie cannoli to try something different than what we are used to. They were delicious. We enjoyed dining here and would go back again.

Giving this restaurant a take out review! I visited from NYC and was craving for some good olā€™ beef brisket. Checked google maps and BOOM! found The Pig. I couldnā€™t say much about the interior of the restaurant but my take out food was majestic. I ordered the juicy and succulent brisket that comes with different sides and a cheesy cornbread. I also got the cajun sausage - it was meaty and had the perfect snap when you bite into it. Overall, I hope I can eat in their restaurant. But for now, take out is good and you should try it too.

What a delicious dinner and an exceptional service by my waitress, Sarah. I had a squash soup, spiced and garnished with fried parsley and a mushroom gnocchi flavored to perfection , paired with a glass of Sauvignon blanc. A good wine line list and I was excited to see the restaurant has picked two wines from South Africa, a Chenin blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon both from the Stellenbosch region. BRAVO!!! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious meal, a restaurant with good service and a great atmosphere. As for me I will be going back on Sunday, for my last brunch or dinner in DC before heading back home to South Africa, Cape Town.

Delicious food with portions that will not disappoint!! Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Dessert was to die for!!! Sooo yummy!!! I definitely recommend this place!!

Confit Shank was awesome, Veal brain pierogi was too but the cookie monster as a dessert was disappointing .... the creme fraiche w/ peaches (my friend's dessert) was yummy. My friend didn't like 'The Chop' she got .... it was dry it some parts, good in some parts and chewy in others (not saying raw). The Face bacon is life though. Solid 4 star out of 5. Definitely worthy of a repeat. Kati is an amazing server and another staff member Angela who recommended I get my Whiskey Sour with egg white was awesome too. Very friendly staff. Bartenders were funny too. Cool place.

The Brie appetizer was delicious the brussel sprouts appetizer were also delicious however the French onion soup was just okay but I personally had the duck and the duck skin wasn't render down and it wasn't crispy duck skin I had several pieces that were so chewy I had to spit them out in my napkin I was given. Ambiance was nice in there the wait staff was friendly but very disappointed with the duck and the Radicchio which I believe that's what accompany the duck although was good was difficult to cut kind of a weird accompaniment with the duck to me.
Troy Denley
The sliders were to die for. Iā€™ve never had such a thick sliced pork chop that was so juicy. Kemit was an awesome server.
Jonathan Uterhardt
I didn't find any fault with the food or drinks although a bit on the pricey side... I did how ever have issue with the very uncomfortable bar stools. Other than that I would recommend it to anyone!

Great Saturday morning brunch! The rosemary bacon cornbread was delicious and I also had the "Pig Dip" sandwich. It was so juicy and the grits side dish was spot on! Great spot to try in DC!

Went here in New Years Eve and what a horrible experience! Limited menu, horrible service, and took forever to get our food. Iā€™ll never return

We checked out of our hotel at noon but our transportation to the airport was 3 hours away. We went looking for a place to eat but most places were closed on Sunday. We had past The Pig a couple of times during our visit in DC and thought it should be a good place to eat. It was crowded! That is usually a good sign of good food! We got seated almost immediately by a very friendly hostess. The place was rustic in decor and clean. It had that look and smell that was inviting. The food was good, as I would expect it to be. We noticed that most of the food is served on a bamboo board. My sandwich wasn't on a board, which was fine with me. Be prepared for large portions. You won't leave hungry! Because it is a small space with several people being served, it probably isn't the most comfortable but they do offer outdoor seating. If I am ever in the DC area and stay where we did, I would probably go there again!

This is a must stop for us every time we visit DC (several times a year). The name says it all...they use the entire pig. The menu changes depending upon what they have. Even the appetizer options are delicious. Tonight we had the roasted brussel sprouts with bacon and pecans. They have an EXTENSIVE selection of whiskey and bourbon. I had the Bacon Maple Old Fashioned. Yum. The service is friendly and attentive, without intruding on the meal. Tonight our server was Angela, who was charming. They do accept reservations. It was a full house in Saturday night.

The Pig was everything I expected it to be and then some. My sister and I made a reservation for 7pm and were seated as soon as we got there. The place was packed to the rafters with groups of people who seemed to be having a good time. I ordered a light German Pilsner which as crisp and refreshing and my sister went for the Riesling, again, very good. We ordered the charcuterie and cheese followed by the porchetta. Absolutely perfect, both in presentation and taste. Had to finish off with some ice cream - mango sorbet for my sister and a divine chocolate peppermint for me. Just rounded off that delicious meal. Our server was most attentive, unfortunately I didnā€™t get his name. This meal will be remembered as one of the highlights of my trip to the Capital!!!

This was the best meal I have had in years hands down! The staff was amazing and helpful! The food was awesome! Wish I had found it my first night in DC rather than my last!
Colin Ohl
Such an awesome place and would love to go back on my next trip to DC!!! Definitely not the place for vegetarians or vegans. So many pork based items well beyond anything one could imagine! So worth it!!!
Shelly Ranee
I went in thinking it would be a BBQ kind of place. It is more like a Hoffbrauhaus with a German type meal place. Very interesting flavors! A bit pricey though. Good people working, good service.
Chris Humbertson
Great food and atmosphere!! Our party of four had the Big Pig Sampler, Garlic Shrimp and Pork Belly, Trough Burger, Ribs and Porchetta. Throw in the awesome side of Brussel Sprouts and good microbrew drafts and it was a great choice for dinner. We were in town for the Capitals vs. Wild game, but the dinner at The Pig Was worth the trip all on its own....we will be back!!

Cool inviting environment. Ā Wood on walls, things to look at and a nice bar service. Ā Tried a flight of aged bourbon..Yummy! Ā Party I was with tried multiple items on menu and all where amazing. Ā Servers gave great recommendations and where very attentive. Ā Was a little noisy when first arrived and hard to talk.

We had a super meal at the Pig... The concept is really fun. Everyone enjoyed their meals... The ribs are incredible.. Desserts are tasty...

Absolutely loved this place! The Pig embodies the whole farm to table, tail to oink idea. The food was sourced locally which as a bonus. Our waiter, Ben, was super friendly and helpful. He listened to us and gave spot on recommendations. Clearly, all of the staff we encountered liked the food and knew it well.

We started with "little pig" and we chose the blue cheese with cherries, pork liver mousse and pork rillettes. Totally delicious especially the liver mousse. It was just amazing served with kiwi berries and pickled red onions. The pickled onions cut through the fat and made the dish better.

For our main meals he ordered the crispy pork shank over collared greens with peanut butter sauce (sounds weird but totally worked). I had the pork cheeks with a spicy sauce over polenta. The food was well seasoned, fresh, delicious and full of soul. If I lived in DC I would visit often.

Food spectacular but drinks not so much. Food dazzled the tastebuds and really enjoyed it but they pour horrible scorch drinks. In sure its policy but had to switch to doubles so I wouldn't need a new drink every 3 sips. I spent $46 on 7.5 ounces of single malted scotch that cost me $22 for the bottle at Costco. Just ordered a night cap at the Westin and I think they poured 7.5 ounce drink for 1 drink for $11. I've never understood why companies do this. I understand making a profit but not a killing

Great place! Came for brunch. Excellent Bloody Mary - I tried haggis for the first time and liked it. Others had pulled pork eggs Benedict with chipotle hollandaise- yum.

This was a lot of fun and the food was delicious. The dishes were consistently good.

So glad we tried it... On our last night of our stay in DC, after many wonderful meals, we decided to try The Pig- and we are really glad we did. Every single thing we had was delicious. The pork cheek, the pork belly, the roasted cauliflower, fried smashed potatoes, and the meatballs- all were wonderful! We even really enjoyed the flavored butter served with the bread. It is hard to pick a best item here, one of us loved the pork belly and the other could not get enough of the meatballs. The cocktails were also amazing- especially the Farmhouse Smash. Highly recommend this place.

Great Resteraunt. I went here a week ago with my family and it was amazing! The menu was pork centered but they had some non- pork options as well. Our favorites were the Mac & Cheese and the fried green tomatoes

One of our New Yearā€™s resolutions as a couple was to plan more date nights. Itā€™s not that we werenā€™t spending time together, but we wanted to be more conscious of scheduling special evenings. Especially with crazy work hours, we donā€™t get to eat dinner with each other every night. After a busy week, itā€™s so nice to have a date on Friday, just the two of us. We catch up, relax, and try new places. The Pig has been on our list for a while now after we happened to walk by it one day. So we finally pulled the trigger and made a reservation. I loved the atmosphere of this restaurant. It feels nice, but casual with a definite rustic twist. The art is super cool and the booths are incredibly comfortable and perfect for a date night. The menu is really interesting and different. Itā€™s basically a tapas restaurant, but most of the dishes are pork. There are some salads and veggie sides (the roasted brussels sprouts were delicious), but most of it is meat.
Cook In Dine Out
And good food is generally what we've had from The Pig. As its name promises, pork is the main attraction. The best I've sampled is the Hickory BBQ, a plate of hickory-smoked pulled pork shoulder doused in spicy vinegar sauce and served with a brilliant truffled mac & cheese.

Located off the popular 14th Street NW, this pork-topia provides tasty food (focused on pork for the most part), a young very hip atmosphere and clientele, solid beer list, and is just close enough to Thomas and Logan circles to be very accessible. At first, I was skeptical, ā€œanother ā€˜pork-centeredā€™ gastropub want to beā€ I briefly thought as I just assumed, being a lover of all things pork, that my dreams would be shattered among mediocrity. I was wrong. Having to wait a beers worth of time at the bar, as they were packed for brunch, we were soon seated beside young parents and too many hipsters to count. After ordering another round of beers, we stared at the brunch menu with much confusion; it all looked so good. The waiter came and I asked several questions. Being from North Carolina, pork is like the holy grail to my people. We cook several whole pigs every year, often hunt wild pig/boar, make our own sausage, jerky, and our own BBQ sauce ā€“ so needless to say, I was curious. The wa

This was one of the most talked restaurants in Washington so we had to try it out. We were already there after 8pm yet the restaurant was still packed as well as the bar and people waiting outside. We waited at the bar and grabbed a drink. I got the "smash light" - mix of strawberry, basil, lemon, clover honey, seltzer. It was very refreshing drink with fruits and honey. We waited about an hour before we got a table.
Food Nomad
While the restaurant espouses a head-to-toe approach to cooking, we mainly stayed around the head of the pig for our meal. The menu does include items such as pig trotters and pig ramen along with several non-pig items which I can't wait to try when I go back. The concept of the place is definitely appealing enough to make you want to go back for more. It's also daunting enough that the Pig may not be for everyone with its list of exotic ingredients but if you suspend your pre-conceptions enough concerning which parts of an animal you think are palatable or not (remember sausage isn't what you think) then I think you're in for a pleasant surprise of a meal that will help you stretch your culinary horizons.
Ellinida_DC
All in all, my first visit left me interested enough to make a second trip and try the crispy pig ears and other pork dishes.
What Micky Eats...
Being that plenty of pork was on the menu, we decided to start off with a couple lighter dishes. First, we shared a salad of Bacon & Burrata. With maple bacon, arugula, baby chard, roasted grapes, almonds, and a garlic-thyme vinaigrette, this salad was refreshing and very delectable
DMV Dining
Incorporating a nose-to-tail approach, The Pig's menu is a carnivoreā€™s dream. While stepping inside the restaurant, an aroma of barbecue drifts through the air across the 80-seat dining room.
This holiday dessert takes a risk with chunks of bacon in a fruitcake. For comparison purposes, this fruit cake is just a little less dense than the Entenmann's version or English Christmas pudding, but closer to those than a panettone.

ā€œFrom snout to tailā€ was the sign hanging in the window for months as we anxiously awaited the opening ofĀ The Pig , brought to us from the folks of EatWell DC . Iā€™ll be the first to admit that I am not the biggest fan of their other restaurants which include Commissary , Logan Tavern , Grillfish , and The Heights , so I did not have the highest hopes for their newest establishment on 14th Street in the Logan Circle neighborhood. At the last minute a friend and I decided to stumble in on a Saturday night to see if we might be able to get lucky and grab a table. The Pig was packedā€“ every table was full, the bar was hopping, and the wait time was over an hour. However, the host let us know he was about to seat a couple who was sitting at the bar and encouraged us to follow him over there so we could snag their seats. I was a big fan of this move. Thanks to him we were able to cozy up at the bar and order the Farmhouse Smash cocktail which is made of crop
DC Wrapped Dates
The Pig sets itself up as an open casual but modern urban restaurant. What do I mean by all those adjectives? For one, the feeling is that of a restaurant in a post-industrial setting, with exposed ceilings and concrete floors; light fixtures are repurposed or vintage; and the floor plan is open with a seamless flow between the rows of booths on either side, the line of four tops in the middle and the bar section in the back. But overlaying all of it is a veneer of modern touches: an unfinished butcher's block bar, and a sleek grey and birch-brown color scheme, evident in the walls and wood accents, with large pictures of liquor tax stamps to decorate them.
Scrumptiously Fit Food
We really enjoyed our meal at The Pig and couldnā€™t wait to share it with everybody we knew.
Girl Meets Food
Thereā€™s a lot of much-deserved buzz about The Pig these days. Fortunately for us, its arachnid companion wasnā€™t as articulate as Charlotte. Even with a diverse offering of well-cooked pig parts, including smoky Carolina pulled pork

If you have ever had dinner, drinks or anything consisting of more than 30 minutes in a restaurant space with yours truly, then you know how I ALWAYS use the restaurant bathroom.Ā This is not a gross post, but a post for those that love all things restaurants including where you powder your face before returning to the crowd.Ā Some restaurant bathrooms in the District make you want to spend a few extra moments before returning to the main dining room

Chef Bonk started the festivities by expertly breaking down a Virginia pig from snout to tail. Impressive knife-work and even more impressive mastery of how each part translates into both a restaurantā€™s bottom line and damn tasty food.
