Review Clyde's Of Gallery Place - Washington DC

We had a great experience and will definitely go back. Think I like it even more than Old Ebbitt and The Hamilton. We were able to get in last minute, service was excellent, space is cool with lots of artwork to check out, and food was delicious! Loved the Brussels sprouts, crab soup, and squash entree. My husband had the steak frites and enjoyed them.

Wonderful menu. Best Shrimp and grits on the planet. Quieter than most local places. We could actually have a conversation. TVs in the bar if you are a sports fan. Wonderful art of local DC scenes.

I went to Clyde's with several people after a work event later in the evening. They were able to accommodate us all with no reservation required. The waiter was helpful in explaining the menu items and checking in with the group. And above all the appetizers and main dishes were all very tasty.

We've been to this location a few times and it's been a little hit or miss. Their BLT's are amazing! Loaded with tomatoes that have actual flavor, crispy bacon, crisp lettuce, and nicely toasted bread. I could honestly eat that every day and have raved about it to whomever will listen. I know that a bit odd for a simple sandwich but it is really good. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive at first but seemed to disappear half way though our meal as the restaurant got busy. The downfall is partially the location. We've gone at various times of the day. If you go near lunch, early evening and are seated nearer the street front windows, you're accosted with the very loud street performers that really just overpower any other sounds or music playing inside the building. Later at night, maybe 9pm-ish, they have the ambient music so loud that you can barely hear your table companions and lyrics maybe not appropriate for a restaurant of that caliber. I know it was a night that Drake was in concert so the general atmosphere seemed rather amped overlay. The music seemed appropriate in both volume and tone for the bar downstairs but not for seated eating. We basically sat in silence to eat as we'd have to yell at each other to be heard. We'll go back but we'll gauge our timing accordingly.

Had lunch here while at a conference. Food and service were wonderful. Latte, Crab dip, chicken salad, and turkey sandwich were delicious. Quaint atmosphere. 5 stars 🌟

Sure, it’s load and cold, but it s a large solid place to meet up with multiple generations of families, friends, and get brunch or lunch or dinner. Or drinks. I enjoyed my breakfast sandwich which was the size of a entire meal! And it’s connected to then movie theater and mall at Gallery Place. There is an elevator.

It was our first time in DC and the food here was delish! We had oysters (my favorite) and so so so good, nachos, the steak salad and the patty melt. Topped it off with the best brownie Sunday ever. Def coming back during our stay

Our server was attentive and courteous. It has been a few years since visiting Clyde's, but I always have a great dining experience.

Pub atmosphere. The prices were reasonable, the food was very tasty. Loved the blackened shrimp tacos!❤️❤️❤️ Jalapeno cilantro sauce was amazing. Our server was very friendly and attentive.

This was a great spot to hit prior to a concert. We didn't have a reservation but they could accommodate us. My burger was so good I wanted another after the concert 😁

Clyde's is related to Hamilton in Washington DC. Both are very good with very good prices. They have fun, nice wait staff that know their menu very well. Clyde's is conveniently located too.

Delicious desserts and good service. Not sure about their regular menu, but I recommend it for dessert. We all enjoyed what we got and they had a decent selection.

It was my first experience at a Clyde's since living in DC, and overall, I was happy with my experience. From the glass windows, the hanging plants, and the beautiful woodwork, the atmosphere at Clyde's epitomizes the power and grandeur of DC. The food itself was simple, American dishes that are worth dining out for-at least most of them. We started with a hummus trio, which was decent. The raw bar with fresh oysters was definitely liked for the freshness and flavor of the food. The ribeye was savored by another member of our party. The crab cake was favored and declared the best they've had in DC. It was well seasoned, the crab meat fresh. As for my salad, it was mediocre. I could've made a better salad at home frankly. The salmon was cooked well, but it lacked much taste. It was pricey for all that I received. Besides the hummus and salmon salad, the food was extremely delicious. Next time, I'll be very careful with my order.

Great service at the bar last night...the farmers cheese tray was awesome! I was impressed with how attentive the staff was with the place packed...

One of the better meals we had in DC. We had a large group of 7 and the service was spot on. Shrimp & Grits were pretty amazing. Loved the atmosphere and decor. Prices were ok for DC and they were happy (at least willing) to make some changes to items for the teenage girls in our group. Recommend for anyone traveling to Downtown DC.

Clyde's is a wonderful restaurant for lunch and dinner. I love their regular and seasonal dishes. They're creative and well crafted. The service is fast and helpful. And the decor is classic.
That being said, I would not recommend going there for brunch. The quality of the items on brunch menu are good but not worth the higher prices.
I recommend trying out Clyde's if you have not been there before (for lunch or dinner). But, if you are looking for a great brunch place, look elsewhere.

The service was bad. We had to ask for water and side plates for the appetizers. Waiter continued to forgot my daughters drink. The salads were served with the meal instead of in advance. Food was served luke warm.

Nice!. Clyde's and Old Ebbitt were both recommended by a friend. Turns out, they are the same place. Well, same menu, essentially. Nice place, good food and helpful staff.
Cameronjack96
Great burger. Excellent burger, great flavor cooked a nice pink, bartender was super engaging. Definitely coming back!

Great service, good food. Aretha (not the singer) and a great wait staff made our family feel welcome and at home. The cheese sampler was excellent and plentiful. Dinners including the crab cake, brick chicken, kid's meals and the beet ravioli were excellent and filling. We enjoyed the warm bread, spicy chili and crab soup. The Thai ribs were not a fave. After all that we saved room for brownie sundaes. Best ever and large enough to share.

Beautiful artwork and cozy seating combined to make this a memorable meal.

Not another dime. Clyde's is in decline. There menu is very commercial/corporate, over priced for the quality of the meals, over seasoned or bland, over cooked. Have frequented this establishment often due to its close proximity to the Verizon center. After tonight, it's time to look for another establishment. I will not be returning. Clyde's used to be a decent American restaurant. Not any more.

I've never NOT left a tip before now.. My wife and I are "foodies" so to speak, and before I started my career, I spent 15 years in the restaurant business. We know what good food and good service are supposed to be. This place has neither. Sorry, the food wasn't horrible, it was very "food". The service however...my gawd. When we arrived at the restaurant, 3 grown men stared at us awkwardly before one finally greeted us. Our "waiter", if thats what we're supposed to call him, approached the table with no desire to make even a decent impression. He took our drink orders, delivered them, and then took our order. When I asked if the french dip was any good he answered me like I was an idiot for asking. I knew then I wasnt going to like this guy. He never came back. Other people delivered our food. I wanted another drink, but he never showed up again until i finally set my card on the edge of the table 'cause i just wanted to hell out of there. Even waiters that suck at their job get 15% from me if they appear to try, but this guy got exactly what he was worth, in our eyes. Nothing. This place blows. How can you be so pretentious?...you work in the service industry. Skip this place and check out the Capital Grille instead.

Perfect venue before the show!. Steps away from the Verizon Cener, this restaurant was just great! Food was very good, as was the service....would recommend and revisit .

We must have been here on a bad evening the customer service was awful , had party of 7 that that was placed in a small booth we asked to be seated else where was looked at like I had a 3rd eye the only good part was our server that tried to make up for the bad customer service that was the 1st impression
Alice Proia
I went there on a Sunday evening with a friend. We thoroughly enjoyed our food - good bruschetta, excellent crab cakes, and key lime pie. Our server was friendly, but not very attentive and slow to attend to our requests (such as asking for extra sauce or more soda). Despite the slow service, the food was amazing and I would definitely eat here again!
Mrcameronstell
Good food, good service. Convenient to Verizon center prior to a concert.

My husband and I stopped into Clyde's for drinks and a snack. The drinks were great. I had a coconut cake martini and he had a ginger snap. We also had the nachos, which was definately enough for 2 people. The service was fast and friendly.

Thumbs Up. I live in Canada so I have only been to this location a few times over the years. Since its next door to the Verizon Center, its an ideal place to stop before or after the game. On each visit we've been seated promptly, the food is always delicious and we have never had any problems with service. The server we had last night was very friendly, attentive and professional. The prices are so unbelievably low the food is practically free. Next time we're in DC, we'll be back.
Food 2 Run
Good Food, service and good price pasta was great with chilli... Worth a visit.

Worst experience ever!. We were a party of ten people so when we went there we've been told that we had to wait for an hour to get a table for us and we said fine, we'll wait. So we went to the bar, got a drink and waited. After an hour we've been told our table was ready upstairs. We went upstairs (no one helped us carry our drinks and appetizers upstairs but we were carrying them ourselves) and when we got up the hostess there was extremely rude, having us waiting there for more time not showing us where to go and finally she took us to two different tables. When we said we waited for over an hour to be sited in one big table so we could be altogether she said that' s it, that's what we got, period. I must also say that the restaurant was not crowded at that time and there were lots of empty tables. We suggested we should bring together some smaller tables but she refused. We called the manager and he, instead of resolving the matter was very rude too trying to justify his hostess's behavior and made it seem as if we had not understood well. Anyway, after we got really upset they gave us a table, we sat and we ordered. The food was very moderate (burgers) and of course overpriced for its quality. They spoiled our weekend. I would never ever go there again!!!

Funny story.
Some friends were dining at Clyde's for a birthday and I called from out of town to pay for the dinner + 25% gratuity. The night passed and I heard nothing from my friends and I called. The hostess I spoke to momentarily was kind but then I was transferred to someone downstairs who was going to help me figure out if my card was used to pay for someone else's dinner. This woman was rude, unhelpful, demeaning and lazy. Not only did she fail to give me information she told me she might have be able to help until tomorrow, or the next day! WIth hardly an apology I was told I could call back and talk to the GM if I wanted.

Well, the GM called me. I after speaking to the horrible woman was told in no short order that it was the guests fault, that in fact they did not check in correctly upon entering the restaurant. These people were rude, unhelpful, disorganized from what I gather their server also left something to be desired.

There's lots of places to eat in DC. Why keep this place afloat?

fail.

Normally Clyde's is a good bet but tonight the food was bland and the service poor. We had the North Carolina shrimp and the potato and truffle ravioli. We waited 15 minutes longer than they told us, they left us standing in the entrance the whole time and the service was slow and the wait staff disinterested. One waiter brought us food for another table. The other almost forgot to take my date's drink order, didn't check in to see if we needed anything and didn't offer us desert. Hope they get back to normal soon!

Not Worthy of the Name Clyde's. If you have limited time for lunch, avoid Clyde's of Gallery Place. Our party of seven was the victim of Clyde's serial service system -- you could be eating dessert while someone else is getting their appetizer. The manager came over to our table on three occasions and still was not able to handle his staff, most of which seemed to be congregated around the host's station, conversing. When we were informed by the manager that he had asked the waitress to remove the desserts from our bill, she failed to do so, and failed to tell him. What a pity. Great location. Beautiful furnishings. But hardly worthy of Clyde's Restaurant Group.

Food is great but a little stuffy. The hotel told us this was casual with kids but it was more like business casual. They accommodated our kids wonderfully. I just felt like we should have been wearing Khakis and Polo's instead of jeans and tshirts.
The portions are small but the food if fabulous!!! I had the pumpkin ravioli, my wife had the the Chicken Picata with Gnocchi. My oldest son had a grilled chicken sandwich with Muenster. The younger kids had the $7 kids meals which were just ok.
Ashley
Their food is to die for the place is fancy the waters is so delightful and me and my man are going tomorrow to get some more of that columary

Crab cakes and steak were great!

Love the atmosphere, service and food! Vance, our server, was knowledgable and helpful. Note that salads don't come with the meals though...

Will give another chance at a different location. The Chinatown location had a very good bacon cheeseburger. The bacon was crispy, not fatty, and the burger had good flavor. Fries were also very good. But the service could be more professional from that environment, especially the hosts. I waited for so long the second time I tried to get a table there, I just left. The annoying thing is that the restaurant wasn't full- there were plenty of empty tables. but the host was fooling around with some of the other employees instead of paying attention to customers, and when he finally came back to the front of the restaurant didn't apologize for making me wait or even acknowledge me - I guess his conversation was more important than doing his job right. I will try the Georgetown location and see if it is better.

Had lunch at Clyde's and had a great burger that was actuall cooked perfectly at medium rare. Great old school pub feel.

Clyde's was recommended by our hotel staff and proves to be an excellent choice. The crab cakes and Alaskan salmon salad were mouth-watering and left me wanting more. The service was also excellent.

Awesome steak, friendly service. Where can you get a cheap sirloin that's less than $20? At Clyde's! Cooked to perfection with great sides. Had a few rounds including the caramel apple martini which was excellent. Service was exceptional, very friendly but not in your face.
Don
One of my favorite places. Food is great, prices are fair. A must stop when in DC.

Good stuff. Nice location close to Verizon center, with good seafood and decent drinks menu...how can you go wrong?

Perfect restaurant choice. Great service, nice atmosphere, great food! I definitely want to go back and try other items on the menu.

Truly a great experience: nice, clean, comfortable restaurant, great food, good service, reasonable prices (yet they do have some excellent higher cost fare also). A great experience.

Good food, pricey. Went here with a small group after a wedding. Food was good, but pricey. Really that would be my only complaint.

Fantastic service! We had a large group of 17 and they accommodated us with no problem. Food was great & drinks were great. Very kid friendly. Highly recommend!

Great atmosphere...... Nice bartender upstairs....... Not happy with my bone in ribeye steak (didn't complain). Seemed too thin and overcooked (it was well done)

Non-Scary Guarantee. It never dawned on me to order fried chicken for breakfast. That was okay, but they also make good burgers and pre-game meals. Expect a wait because this is a favorite for tourists who can't remember which section of DC terified their Aunt Sarah. By the way: ask them why they have a big picture of Babe Ruth. I forgot to last time.
Kyle
Good find. Really cool old time bar feel. Tried the newly unveiled Gallery Place Burger, which was fantastic. Starts off with their killer charbroiled burgers and then topped with a Monterey Jack-stuffed pablano pepper and a chipotle BBQ sauce that is more sweet than spicy.
Andrew
Outstanding. Been here twice & had an awesome experience each time. Great food & very knowledgeable staff. Clyde's is a "must do" when you're in DC!
Don Fick
Great place for a late night meal. Beautifully furnished and great waitstaff. Looks like a reliable choice for locals and tourists. Located next to the Verizon Center.

Good crabcake. When I think of Clydes, I am mostly thinking of their Chili (sweet and hearty, not spicy) and their crabcake and maybe a serving of oysters or shrimp all of which are among the better examples in the area. I love the crabcake. I have not managed to find a better one in DC itself yet. The only thing I would recommend against is the chicken sandwich.
Chris Hargreaves
Pretty good. We went here after spending the morning at the Crime & Punishment Museum. We were walking around Chinatown and stumbled upon it. Never even heard of the place so we thought, why not? We really weren't that hungry, as we just had a cupcake from Red Velvet (YUMM!!!); so we just got sandwiches and beer. We were seated in the Atrium that overlooked the Verizon Center and the Gallery Place Walkway. Cute little area to enjoy lunch. I had the chicken sandwich which was good, but kinda dry. The fries were cold, but didn't care, as I wasn't in mood for them. My dining companion had the Thai Turkey Burger and fell in love with it.

Our server, Obi was awesome and did a great job!

Same Owners as Old Ebbitt?. Well, after the Jon Stewart Rally and before our Halloween Party my girlfriend and I knew we needed to get dinner downtown. A week in advance I made a reservation at Clyde's to one up the crowds. Maybe this was wrong of me but knowing Clyde's and Old Ebbitt Grill (one of my favorites) were owned by the same group, I expected my first trip to Clyde's to be on par with my many visits to Ebbitt. I was wrong. Let me just say this though, the ambiance is wonderful. The old dark wood, the paintings, the stained glass makes Clyde's look like a swanky Victorian parlor. It's too bad the food didn't keep up. The menu looked just like Ebbitt's and I ordered the calamari as an app and a bacon cheeseburger as an entree, expecting clones of what I got there. The calamari however was a much smaller portion and not as skillfully prepared. It was borderline chewy and slightly greasy. Not bad, but not great. Also it was covered with various types of peppers which isn't a bad thing in of itself, but not my favorite. My burger was particularly lame. The beef was overdone and bland. It tasted like a bad cookout, too much char, no seasoning, and a stale bun. I would have done better at Five Guys. The counter to this was my girlfriend's seared tuna appetizer. She thought it was fresh and tasty and ate all of it. However she was pretty disappointed with her mojito.

I never would have chosen this place, but I'm glad someone else did. Great rockfish with fabulous tapenade pairing. The croissant bread pudding was a filling balance of sweet and delicious.
Tony
Great service and really good food. I have gone here on many occasions for business luncheons and have had great experiences here. The food and service are great. The restaurant theme and atmosphere are wonderful.

Always have a good time here!. The thai turkey burger is AMAZING and the bbq chicken pizza on the starters menu is yummy too. great staff, good food and comfortable space make for a great time.
Charley Clarke
Really liked it. Had a great meal with my 10 yr old son while on vacation. Price was reasonable and service v good.
Melanie Roberts
Most memorable is the lousy, slow service.
Sean
A Spectacular atmosphere in this spacious two-story restaurant near the Verizon Center. However the adjectives stop here, as the food at Clyde's was nothing special. Most of my party ordered hamburgers. My brother really did like the comfy cushions [at our booth] which we sat upon.
Trilllrn
Good burger & sandwiches. Full late night menu, but had to run gauntlet of questionable folk to get to front door.
P
Great American seafood in a great American spot. Even though Chinatown is disappearing due I places like this, it's still really great food.
John Byron Shook
As my party and I enter the restaurant we were amazed at how incredibly loud the bar one level up was, and it only got worse as we approached our seats. This was not your typical raucous friday night crowd (even though it was Tuesday) but a fulll-on end of law school throw down of epic proportions-- a law last hurrah for GW's 2008 3Ls to cast off mrs palsgraf with a heady mix of alcohol and ego. Anyway... I digress.... This place was loud. The cheese platter appetizer was great. The salmon flavorless but they took it off the bill so it evened out.

I’ve been here before and am always impressed with how large the restaurant is. There’s lots of rooms and two levels including a very large bar area. Since we planned to do a lot of chatting, we saw a table in the bar area and asked to be seated there.
