Go, go, go! For an authentic German evening go to Old Europe, the minute you walk in the door you are taken back to a time of a classy restaurant with German roots, from the steins on the walls, the country coats of arms, the German towns, and the art work, all this before you even sit down. Then the beers, what a choice, the menu is superb too, so much to choose you will want to go back again and again. We chose the charcuterie board, then the chefs special of the day and a flight of beers. All I can say is, this restaurant has been there 75 years and you know why when you eat here, it is an institution in its own right on Wisconsin Ave. You will not be disappointed. Next time in DC this is back on our list of restaurants to visit.

You literally feel like you walked out of DC and into a small family tavern in Germany here. The dishes were good. Friendly and attentive service. Would have hoped for more than four beers on tap, but at least they are good quality and varied styles.

First time here we had a per set menu for our party and where things was wonderful. The beer selection very true german beer and wine

Fantastic restaurant. The interior is warm and comfortable with a lot of decor that feels like a nice dinner room in a European location.
Order a special and was really happy with the meal. The spätzle was tasty and the german potato salad was fresh. The whole meal tasted really great and did not feel over stuffed or too full at the end.
I'll be headed back here for sure.

Environment is great, small, cute and friendly place. Makes you feel welcomed. Food was delicious, only schnitzel was a bit dry but still tasted so good. Staff were really sweet friendly and kind. Definitely will visit and try other dishes!

Despite having friends that have frequented Old Europe, I finally made it with my friends. All I can say is "Wow"! This place was fantastic. The food was phenomenal and the atmosphere is spot on. Since we had a a large group (~15), the service was a little lacking near the end but good overall. Definitely recommend going in smaller groups in the future. Oh and get the Ocktoberfest bier!
And the dessert... Oh my goodness. I had the German chocolate. Absolutely wonderful.
Highly recommend, will return again!

I have enjoyed eating at the Old Europe restaurant many times over the years. I love the selection of authentic German dishes presented in and "old Europe" atmosphere. The food is tasty and the beer selections are excellent. I was disappointed that the restaurant was completely empty during our visit -- perhaps because we were early. They do need to work on food presentation and we found the pepper steak was very fatty. Otherwise the restaurant is a fun place to pass an evening and surprisingly authentic.

I enjoy Old Europe restaurant for its service, antique atmosphere, and certified-authentic German food! As someone who has visited Germany and Austria, I can confirm that the food is cooked according to traditional German flavors and preparation. The images I have included illustrate the restaurant’s quality and art of German culture and cuisine. My experience at this family-owned business makes me feel as if I entered a time capsule into history.

A good around tasty menu, with well cooked traditional meals including Pork or Chicken Snitzel. Fair priced drinks 🍸 adds to the enjoyable experience. A good dinner choice 1 night whilst you're here in Washington DC.

Fantastic German restaurant that had every authentic dish and drink one could want. Very friendly staff served my family with notable grace and provided a memorable meal during our trip to DC. Highly recommend anyone with an interest in German dishes, desserts, beers, or schnapps dine with Old Europe.

I chose Old Europe in Washington DC as our caterer for an Octoberfest Client Appreciation Party. Alex was extremely professional and majority of our communication was done via email. He put together a wonderful selection of authentic German food.
The schnitzel was a hit and our clients fell inn love with this quintessential German dish. The Laugen Pretzels were soft and buttery. The sauerkraut and the mustard trio was a huge hit.
The house made potato salad was fantastic. It stayed cold through the event. The potato pancakes with apple sauce and sour cream was a must have item.
The assorted sausages that consisted of Brat, Bauren, Knack, Debreziner and Weisswurst was delicious.
The quartered Backhahchen Octoberfest style roasted chicken was seasoned perfectly.
Finally, the Octoberfest Gingerbread Hearts was the perfect touch for placing on the tables.
Alex delivered the items to us and provided set-up, disposable chafers with stereo and serving utensils.
We will definitely use Old Europe again as it is hands down the best place for authentic German food.

I found this place about 20 years ago. I love german food and drinks and they do a very good job. The Hunter's Schnitzel, sausage plate, red cabbage cucumber salad are all great. Kind of a hole in the wall place but I always enjoy eating here on every trip to DC.

Lovely atmosphere. Great waitress. Was full by the time we left. Overall great food yet for some reason not out of the world. Had pork schnitzel with sautéed onion with dark beer gravy. Interesting. Meat was a bit dry. The other dish was a brisket beef with raisin and sauce (can’t remember) both very good. Had warm potato salad. Not too bad. I believe I make awesome German potato salad myself! Dessert- apple strudel. Ok ok. Wouldn’t order it next time!

Hands down the best german food in US. 🇩🇪
It is not cheap imitation , but really good authentic food. Hand made sauercraft. 🤤
On pics:
Sausage combo with authentic mustard. Baked brie with jam and fruits. And of course German beer.
The interior is the most pleasing to say the least.

Wonderful old world ambiance with excuisite German cuisine. The pork loin with grilled onions, sauerkraut and potato dumplings was delicous. The chicken with sauteed mushrooms and spatzle was very nice. The cream of asparagus and chilled cucumber soups were both very tasty. Good selection of draft beer, including Köstrizer Schwartzbier. The banana bread pudding dessert was fantastic. Excellent selection of schnapps, including a delightful fig schnapps. The excellent service was very prompt and friendly.
