Mexicali Blue

Another time I've eaten here regretting my decision. The last 3 times times I've eaten here I have given them the benefit of the doubt seeing they have gotten the food network award. I will NOT go here ever again. I ordered the BBQ Brisket($8) and The Brooklyn($7.50 pork belly) tacos. Each price is for one taco. The BBQ brisket was loaded to the hilt but lacked any flavor. The Brooklyn was just inedible. Prior to taking a bite I said to my wife that it looked very dry. Not only was it very dry, but it also tasted like extremely burnt bacon. I tried to fight my way through it but could only eat half. My wife had the Shrimp taco which she enjoyed but did not even attempt to eat the Ahi Tuna taco. She ordered the taco medium but it came extremely rare almost raw. I enjoy a tuna steak rare but this tuna was close to swimming off of the plate. Each time we've eaten here, the wait staff has taken our drink order, then dinner order, and come back after we've eaten no matter how busy they are. My wife wanted to send back the tuna but did not have the chance since the waitress never came back until we were finished I honestly left the restaurant feeling like i had to throw up in order to feel better. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good Mexican food. Mexicali Blue no longer is looking to serve quality food but to only ride on their laurels of previous awards.

Disgusted with service tonight. The extremely light cheese they added was burnt and meal was missing the salad. Called and they said I could pick it up and I did only to get home and see the whole point of why I went back out to get the salad was for something specific in it was MISSING. Seemed intentional. Called to let them know I didn’t want anything but was disappointed that I had to drive there 2xs b/c of THEIR mistake and I ended up still without what I paid for and b/c they have caller ID they ignored the call. I know this b/c they answered from another number. Waste of $20 and the rest spent on sides b/c I can’t even eat with how annoyed I am and I wonder what was put in the salad if they were so annoyed to leave out a main ingredient. I’m extremely disappointed as I’ve ordered from here a lot, but won’t again after this.

Pretty yummy burritos and margs! 5 stars for food and service. But honestly soooo not worth the high prices. Every time I think about going to Mexicali lately, I can't justify the cost and end up going to Chipotle. :-) A little lower quality, but I can get two burritos and two orders of chips for the cost of 1 single burrito at Mexicali... Yikes

We have been there five times now. Our thoughts are this restaurant is very inconsistant. Sometimes Ingrediants are great, large shrimp well cooked and other times small baby shrimp poorly cooked and not flavorful. The Brooklyn taco, usually great with pork belly left lifeless with standard bacon used and not well prepared. Consistency for Mexicali Blue is not good. I grade it a D.
