Escaping out of Chicago on the way to Lake Geneva, we decided to spend a night at the Doubletree by Hilton (a friend was having her birthday there and it made no sense to drive back to the City). We love their restaurant Karma but wanted to enjoy a meal out side, celebrating with our puppy Truffle so we opted for Green Basil nearby. Don't let the strip shopping center scare you off. It's a great spot and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating, even bringing a candle so we could enjoy a romantic dinner. We started with a papaya salad that was fresh and beautifully presented, delicious! The seafood rangoon was impressive. Three large packets filled with cream cheese and seafood, obviously fresh made. I ordered the chef special, peppered soft shell crab and omg, it was fantastic with loads of al dente veggies and a huge mound of fried rice on the side. My husband enjoyed his perfectly cooked roasted duck in a light coconut curry sauce. They have an adequate wine list and a decent cocktail menu. We were too full for dessert but I'm sure it would have been equally great. I would definitely recommend it and as crazy as it sounds, I would travel from Chicago to enjoy another dinner here. Green Basil is worth of a serious look and an added bonus this evening was the lovely folk guitarist who was playing at the neighboring restaurant, Nirvana, as they piped the music outside to our enjoyment.
The dinner that we had here tonight was awesome, without a doubt the best Thai food that I've ever had. We had the Green Basil duck, drunken noodles, Tom Kha Kai soup, and Spicy Basil Chicken, and each dish was better than the next. Highly recommended! I've never eaten here before, and I usually order Tom Yum soup (I mean it has the word "yum" in it, so it has to be good, right?), so this is the first time that I've had Tom Kha Kai but it was full of coconutty goodness!
The food was delicious! We had a grilled chicken salad, Thai Salmon salad, and fresh spring rolls. Everything was fine until the bill. I paid the bill with my debt card. I prefer to leave tips in cash. My mom left the tip on the table. Whenever I sign my receipt I put a line through the tip and write in the total bill amount. I signed the receipt and handed it back to the waiter who looks at the receipt and ask about a tip. I simply told her it was on the table. I did not like being asked about a tip as if I made a mistake.
A good decent Thai restaurant. Kind of pricey for the quantity served.
We got Panang Curry, chicken fried rice, Pas see ewe.
I have had better but it was still above average.
Pad Thai was too sweet for us, but it had flavour and loads of very good veggies. The wonton soup had a pleasant broth that tasted of fried onion, garlic, chives and some more. Very friendly service.
Coming back after some time, the food remains really good and the service excellent.
Very good Thai restaurant. All dishes can be made gluten free. Good portion sizes. Great spicy flavor no matter the heat level you like. Worth a try if you're in the area.
Great place, great food. Green Basil has become a favorite place to eat at. We'll continue coming back!
First time trying this place. Absolutely amazing experience and beyond delicious food! We had salmon salad and shrimp garlic and peppers entree and asked them to make it spicy and it was so flavorful! All 3 of us loved the food. Servers were also very friendly. Will definitely be returning soon.
Great authentic thai restaurant. I’ve eaten here many times with my coworkers, can’t believe I haven’t left a review. The service is always friendly. My favorite here is the Green Basil Duck, the duck skin is crispy but the meat is juicy and tender, and the sauce is just the perfect amount of spiciness, you can taste the fresh ingredients in it. Other favorite dishes of course are the pad woon sen and pad see eiw, and chicken satay. Sometimes we just come to eat the thai sampler appetizer and just sit on the bar and try their mix cocktails. The environment’s just perfect for a nice relaxing lunch/dinner.
One of the best food ever 🤩 loved the food and service was great. You have to try to see what I mean ♥️ steamed sea bass and the salad was the best 🤩

Great and authentic Thai food! Everything was delicious and the server is super friendly. Love everything here, we order soft shell crab with pepper sauce, mmm so yummy! It comes with its own fried rice, the best! My favorite so far! And fish cake was very good too!! Very recommended!!
I loved the food and the hospitality of the staff. We had ordered the Pad see eiw with tofu noodles and the ginger chicken. Their fried Banana ice cream dessert is a must try. Will be visiting them soon. :)
