Some of the best puffy tacos I've had. I love that they weren't just swimming in grease like so many of them out there. I also loved that my child's meal could be ordered with watermelon instead of the beans and rice. He would have liked the beans just fine, but the option of fruit is a very welcome change! And the watermelon was DELICIOUS! My husband loved the brown rice and the enchiladas, and I really liked the guacamole. The only complaint I have is that the corn tortillas were a little dry, but everything else was so good, I could overlook that. Glad we have this place a try! 4 Stars!
Sometimes, you've had one of those days, and you just really need something to go right. For me, some comfort food and a hug from a sweet waitress is uplifting.
Its not like I don't appreciate surprise and adventure, but consistency and dependability is less effort. Some days that's just what I crave and I go to Fiesta Patio.
I don't need to think about what to order, don't really need a menu, I'll get the plate with an extra enchilada, and an iced tea. In fact, I don't really need to ask for anything unless I want something different. If i'm feeling wild and crazy I may get the soup, just to keep them on their toes. I also don't feel guilt of eating 'greasy Mexican again' as my mother used to say.
So Fiesta Patio gets a 4.5 from me. My highest rating since the 1-5 system went into place. I've decided that I should reserve a perfect 5-point score for a time when I receive the Heimlich from a blonde waitress, possibly at Hooters.
40 Years-Not Months. You would think that a 40 year restaurant would get a few things right? The advantage of geezer status is a LONG data reference bank to make comparisons. Previous to this past Friday, my last visit was in the late 70's on the Austin Highway, Patio's previous location.
This location is decorated in a pleasing Tex-Mex theme, clean and has experienced and cheerful staffing. I ordered the chalupas with beef. My wife had the Puffy taco / enchilada combo plate. Both were promptly plated and served. The flavor and taste was awesome and slightly different. The slightly different taste is due to the absence of manteca (lard) at this eatery. I will return ASAP to try the cheese enchiladas.
Good forty years ago, excellent now! If you live in the Pat Booker / 1604 area, visit this restaurant. You will not be disappointed!
Get a burger - really!. I have never had any meal at La Fiesta than DIDN'T include cheese enchiladas - that's how much I love them. La Fiesta's new table card showed the Burger Special, with ice tea & fries, for $6.50. A large patty, expertly cooked to be juicy, topped with cheese, served open-face with lettuce, tomato, pickles, bun buttered lightly with mayo & mustard. Excellent fries - you can also substitute another side if you want to replace the fries. SO GOOD!
Delicious. We go there at least once or twice a month. Good food, great salsa and chips. The girls bring us tea and salsa soon as we sit down. Great prices. Great lunch time menu and their tortilla soup is to die for.
One of my Favorites.... My opinion may be a little biased because i literally grew up at patio cafe.
My mother worked at patio for 15 years and my sister has been there for 16 years as of this year. For my family patio is a staple. I moved away 2 years ago and i crave their amazing hot sauce daily. My other two favorites are the delicious tortilla soup which has not comparison, and the most amaing of all, the cream of jalapeno soup. I will always love patio. No the place isnt perfect, but no place is. For me its about family. Its a small close nit type of restaraunt. Its no greasy chain. Wonderful place, wonderful food.
Yum!. Hands down the best puffy tacos I've had in all of San Antonio. I will definitely be coming back for more!
Can't go wrong with La Fiesta!. This is one of those restaurants that I just can't stay away from. Always consistent food and service, and the best tortilla soup around. The puffy tacos are also something that you should try when eating here. I've never had a bad experience at La Fiesta, and I've eaten here probably 100 times. If you are in Universal City, you owe it to yourself to stop in, you will not be disappointed.
La Fiesta!. Sometimes San Antonio seems like some kind of Disneyland for fat people. In San Antonio, a bean burger is not a burger made of beans . . oh no . . it's a big beef burger slathered with refrieds. And how many calories in a puffy taco? If you need to ask, you better just forget it. Don't get me wrong, I love it but sometimes you need something different.
Providing that something different is La Fiesta Patio Cafe. It's a healthier, less greasy, vegetarian-friendly Tex Mex that still delivers big time flavor. The 'classic tex mex cheese enchiladas' here are my favorite in the city. The puffy tacos here are the only ones I will eat on a regular basis and the tortilla soup is killer, too.
The brown rice they serve here is really special - if there are any brown rice haters in your life (or if you are one) you really need to try this rice.
Healthier take on mexican food. They make mexican food as healthy as possible without loosing flavor. The enchiladas & puffy tacos don't come dripping grease like most places. Whole wheat tortillas and beans using no lard. Anytime I have a mexican food craving my husband takes me here.
Friendly staff who greet you upon entering the restuarant. The waiter took my drink order and promptly brought my tea along with chips and salsa. Lunch specials offer a varied selection along with 7 side dishes to select with the specials. The tortilla soup was flavorful and filling. The cheese enchiladas and puffy tacos were tasty and more than I could eat so I took half my lunch order home for dinner. The menu offers a large selection for lunch or dinner so definitely going back.
First time here today & it didn’t disappoint!
Puffy tacos were delicious!
Food was good can’t believe I pass by this place for years & never knew how good it was.
Service from Johnny was Top notch 👌
I have been searching for some good puffy tacos for a while, finally found them here. When I tell you these were the best puffy tacos I had in my life, I mean, they literally changed my whole perspective. To put simply, amazing and will be back soon.
You seat yourself. It was crowded at lunch on a Wednesday, a good sign.
Very colorful outside with some trees left growing in the front. Gives a nice feel as you enter. Cloth napkins, metal utensils, and ceramic plates.
Drink was delivered quickly and my entree order was taken at the same time. Salsa was good. I never like it when it is too spicy, this one has some bite without pepper being all you can taste. Chips were very thin and seemed home made. A little loud inside but it was pretty full of customers.
Ordered the puffy taco combo plate with guacamole and beans.
My entree took a bit to arrive and my waitress was very busy back and forth with meals.
Menu says they are famous for their puffy tacos and I agree. Everything was very good. I would definitely recommend!!
I crave their tortilla soup! Best tortilla soup I've had, especially around San Antonio. They also have the best puffy tacos in town...never been greasy, always a treat. Love their hot sauce as well. Wish they would build one on the NW side of San Antonio!
They have disappointed me twice.
Once when I drive over and found they had changed their hours during COVID to close earlier.
The second time was a couple weeks ago when we went to eat lunch on a Monday and found they are now closed on Mondays as well as Sundays. EXTREMELY disappointed having driven from the opposite side of town.
Plenty of parking. Called in my order for two. 2 enchiladas cheese, brown rice, beans and quacamole salad, and a bag of tortilla chips with hot sauce. So delicious. I will come back again. Drove up for pick up and meals were ready to
take home. Staff was very
pleasant. I wore my mask.
The service was excellent and the food was good its not the kind of Mexican restaurant I'm used to but I had a great experience here would recommend 😀
I ate dozens of meals here with my family in the early 90s and always loved it. I remember really enjoying the soft tacos. Pillowy soft tortillas! This place is legendary in my memory.
