It's no surprise to many that Uruguayans love their meat. Cows even outnumber people four to one in Uruguay. It's only fitting that they have a sandwich that highlights that.
The word "chivito" actually means "little goat." The legend of the name is that a patron from Argentina came to a restaurant in Uruguay, and tried to order a "little goat" sandwich. The restaurant owner, not in possession of goat meat (and not wanting to disappoint a hungry Argentine), used steak instead, plus whatever else he had in the kitchen and thus the chivito was born.
The chivito is also known as the national dish of Uruguay, and is often called a heart attack on a plate. It can be served "al plato" or "al pan," but you're gonna want it "al pan." The sandwich itself consists of thin sliced steak, bacon, ham, mozzarella cheese, a fried egg, tomatoes, mayonnaise, green olives, served on a fresh roll with fries on the side, because of course there are.
Pizzarra's Restaurant & Pizzeria on Bergenline Ave. in Union City is most famous for their chivitos and arguably the best place to get one in NJ.
I can't recommend Pizzarra's enough. They're an excellent choice for their Uruguayan-style pizza, pasta, milaneses, empanadas, and even desserts, such as the *chaja* cake (meringue, dulce de leche, whipped cream, peaches).
The best Uruguayan cuisine. Delicious meat pizza and desserts . Beatriz the owner is a very sweet and super nice lady a great host. If you are planning to have a delicious meal you must visit!!!
The best and most complete mom and pop’s restaurant around here. Great combination of good vibes and quality food. Great variety on the menu, clean bathroom but small place. My favorite restaurant in Union City, NJ
Haven't been here in about 10 years and it was an excellent burger that reminded me of my childhood. It's definitely a different vibe from when I was a kid but the food is pretty much exactly the same. Very fair prices and great quality.
This is definitely one of the best and rarest places to eat in Union City! I tried the Parillada Pizarras & it was marvelous! 10/10 I always get the grilled chicken salad & pepperoni pizza & it’s always delicious. The coffee here is also amazing. I definitely recommend this place, the staff is so amazing and the service is top notch. Franco was also very helpful and attentive. One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been too in Hudson county.
My first time visiting Pizzarra's and it was such a great experience!!! Love trying new places that don't disappoint!! Everything from service to the cleanliness of the restaurant to the delicious food!!! Can't wait to be back and try more dishes..Parillada and pizza was to die for!!

Their Uruguay-taste food is good. I like Pizzara’s pizza and dessert, Chaja. Good service. I will go back for more!
