Homegrown Brewhouse

There is a little something for everyone at Homegrown not just beer. It is great that they have a few food items now. The live music was great and the whole place, in the middle of downtown Summerville, has a small town , but trendy feel. I had the Radler and tried a few ciders since I am not a huge beer drinker. Many others in my party tried a lot of the beer on tap and were happy. The whole place, including the bathrooms, are clean.

We have been to Homegrown Brewhouse many times, but today will likely be the last. My husband and I wanted to sit outside and have a beer, but in order to see what they had on tap we had to go inside for the menu. I was carrying a pizza box from Benny's which is a couple doors down. We were quickly approached about the food and we tried to explain, the pizza was being taken home to out kids, we had no intention of eating in their establishment. This was still a problem, so I walked outside with the pizza while my husband ordered me a surprise beer because I couldn't see the menu. We sat outside with our drinks. My husband had finished and I had a few more swallows to go, when the chef came out and said we could not have the food with us. He said he would take it to the back of their establishment. Who in their right mind in this day and age would allow someone to take their food and put it in the back? If this was a problem for us to sit outside and enjoy our drinks after purchasing beer from them, they really should have told us before they took our money! The chef said they Benny's is not a good neighbor. Seems to me that the real problem is Benny's opened up a tap room and Homegrown Brewhouse doesn't want any competition.
