The Shack

This was a wonderful dining experience. I was passing through this little town and decided to take a chance on its best restaurant. Boy, am I glad that I did! The food was amazing. Creative. Delicious. Satiating. My server (Meghan) and the guy who brought out the food were really helpful, describing each dish and offering suggestions on the five-course menu. I highly recommend a visit if you're anywhere near I-81 in Virginia.

This restaurant was definetely interesting. Everything was simple from plates, tables, to its menu. The space was probably not originally designed for a restaurant, and the sit-down space felt as part of the kitchen area behind. They only serve either 4 or 5 course pre-fixe menus. At the time of my visit, we could add caviar service additionally, which turned out to be one of my favorites, if not the best, out of that night. All ingredients and how they were prepared almost felt like everyday comfort food, but they were arranged extremely uniquely. It was also interesting how I could find various fruits in course meals. Almost all dishes were mildly seasoned, which made me spend more time to explore each taste. At the same time, greens stood out well and all serves were visually stunning.

Really amazing food journey. All the dishes were carefully considered, very creative, and not pretentious. It was obvious how much care went into each course. Fresh food opportunities in the winter could seem bleak, but thanks to pickled, preserved, and cured bits, this meal was alive as ever. Beautiful offerings, thank you kindly.

Let me give you some reasons why you need to visit Staunton, Virginia and come to The Shack. Menu is the last image if you're curious. There is a 4 or 5 Course option and each course has two options. We did the 5 Course and got the entire menu. There were 3 additional courses which were the same not on the menu. Chef Ian and his team were phenomenal. 👏
