The food was delicious and service top-notch! Our waiter was was so genuine and incredibly friendly even though it was just before the lunch close time. He never made us feel rushed and had a great conversation with us about the restaurant which we were visiting for the first time as we stopped in Springfield on our route to Oshkosh. I'd stop again...even though a bit out of our way...well worth it!
The food is always superb, deliciously prepared, & beautifully presented. The wait staff is always professional, & overly accommodating. We have made this our anniversary treat for over 20 years, & will continue to do so. Thank you Maldaner's for a special evening with my love!!
The wait staff was very attentive. The food was immaculate. Price was very reasonable. I will definitely be visiting this place again. Good date night. Or just dinner for you and a significant other.
My husband and I came here for an early Valentine's dinner and we absolutely loved it! I adored the overall building and history of the place; the ambiance was wonderful and it had this cozy yet classy feel to it. I enjoyed learning about the chef's work and the gardens and beehives on the roof that supplied the restaurant.
We ordered the seafood trio as an appetizer and I loved it; I had never tried polenta before and it was very creamy and delicious. My husband ordered the prime rib and he was very impressed by the quality and size as well as the price. I had the salmon: it was well cooked and I enjoyed it but I will say the Asian glaze was a tad too sweet for my liking. I had a New York New York cocktail and it was delicious and fruity. We both ate several baskets of bread and it was great - nice crackling crust and good crumb inside. I will say I was not impressed by both the coffee and the iced tea but that is about the only negative thing I can say about the food and drink.
Our server was wonderful and attentive and the atmosphere was cheerful. We will definitely be back. We are new to Springfield and were so pleased to discover this restaurant.
Very nice place and most of the guests were dressed up because they knew they were going someplace special. The staff is friendly and helpful. Maldaner's is serious about using fresh and locally obtained ingredients for their dishes, so much so that the owner himself (I understand) picked the morel mushrooms that went into the Morel Pie. If you like mushrooms and especially morels you will understand how absolutely delicious the Morel Pie is! I ordered the Beef Wellington. I had never had Beef Wellington before but, let me tell you, it was outstanding! It was so good, so warm and pink and tender, that I gobbled it up before I thought to take a picture to show you how beautiful it was! Next time I'm in Springfield, I will definitely look forward to visiting Maldaner's again!
We are pretty much home bodies so on those rare occasions we do go out we like to make it special and Maldaner's fits the bill. Always good food and service. Desserts are always stellar and sauces on entrees interesting and well prepared. Menu could use some updating but since we usually get the catch of the day that's not a problem. It is somewhat pricey for the area but we find it well worth it. Highly recommended.
This restaurant has it all...location, history, delicious food, and refined service. I ordered the warm goat cheese salad and loved the combination of cheese, beets, and cranberries. For my entree, I had a Chilean sea bass with cherry tomatoes over a bed of arugula and a daikon/turnip puree. The flavors were amazing. Even though I was feeling a bit full, I made room for a seasonal crisp with peaches and blueberries, which was heavenly. The service was efficient and friendly with a refined air that you see in upscale restaurants. It was a real treat!
I come here when I'm in town for work. So far I have been twice. There is no way I can say how delightfull this place is. Everything I've had is tremendous. Tonight I had French onion soup, a slice of morel mushroom pie, and bread pudding for dessert. Amazing! Not inexpensive but extraordinarily reasonable for the quality and the experience. A real gem!
Michael is the executive chef here. He has done a most perfect job with beef Wellington which is a rare and old world dish. We know that it takes hours to prepare this properly. How apropos to offer such a fine dish in the oldest restaurant on route 66. The sea bass with muscles is also excellent. The muscles are plump and full to their shell size. The fish is perfectly flaky and fresh. Even his French onion soup is perfectly seasoned and onions are sauteed.
If you're looking for the most perfect mean true to the period this is where you need to go to satisfy your palate. Bravo!
Had a fabulous birthday lunch today with friends. The atmosphere of this vintage local restaurant is lovely and comfortable. The food was excellent. And the service was wonderful. Our server, 'Ron,' was attentive, knowledgeable and funny. I highly recommend this place!
