Yamato Steak House

Most unfortunate experience. Dined here for the first time last evening, (Philadelphia and avocado roll); within 6 hours I had multiple episodes of vomiting lasting throughout the night. Clearly this was due to ingestion of food contaminated w a preformed toxin. This is my area of expertise, being board certified in Infection Control and Epidemiology. Apologies for the detailed review but it needed to be said.

Great Japanese decor. Friendly and quick service. I'm a vegetarian. So, I had ordered the grill fried rice combo. I didn't know that the accompanying soup was made of beef broth. So I had to send it back. I guess, I might've lost my rapport with my waiter after that. I had ordered a couple of Seaweed wrapped Sushis. The sweet potato one and the Avocado one. To my surprise, I liked the sweet potato sushi better. It was crispy and it went great with the Wasabi sauce. The Sake was warm till the end and they have these Oriental sake cups that I liked to hold in my hand.

I used to come here all the time, and never had a bad meal. But today I ordered takeout and it was absolutely horrible. The chicken fingers my husband ordered were all way over cooked and hard as a rock. He couldn’t even eat some of the pieces cause of how hard they were. I asked for sweet and sour on the side, and they literally gave me the smallest dipping cup and only filled it half way up. I went back inside and asked for more and she gave me a 2nd that was again only half way filled up. There wasn’t enough sauce for my husband to dip the maybe 3 very small pieces of chicken that he could actually eat. The rice was very blah, had no flavor. And the spring rolls, were definitely not spring rolls. It was mostly made up of lettuce, no shrimp, no sprouts, nothing. I’ll never go back here again.
