J's Deli

Small and slightly strange location near or practically IN a gas station, don't let its humble appearance fool you. These are the same great sandwiches you have been getting at J's for years. If you haven't gotten a sandwich from J's, you really ought to give them a try - just be sure to bring your appetite because the sandwiches are HUGE and packed. If you go with someone, and are able to agree on one of the dozens of options they have available, you could probably split one to make 2 reasonably portioned meals. For me, I was not here for reasonability. I was here for a cheat meal and all the calories. I got the Ring of Fire and the Blondie for dessert. The Ring of fire was packed full of meat and dressed with Buffalo sauce and Ranch (if I remember correctly). It was tasty, but for a similar experience that is kicked up a notch, I'd suggest going for The Graduate. The blondie was delightful. Think chocolate chip cookie with an oreo filling and you are getting close to the flavor profile. The staff was kind and courteous, and service was speedy in the face of a pretty big crowd in a small space. My one qualm would be that the music was far too loud. Other than that? A great place for a casual lunch that is a step above fast food.

Here's what I ordered: The Ring of Fire Sliced buffalo chicken with melted American cheese, bacon, lettuce, and ranch dressing on a torpedo roll. Here's what I got: Shredded/mashed buffalo chicken (not enough to fill the sandwich) with melted cheese (again, not a legit amount), *one slice* of bacon, lettuce (slimy, wilted, soft, & cooked into the sandwich) and a skim of ranch dressing on a torpedo roll. I've made better sandwiches drunk at 3 am out of leftovers. Now I've liked J's for 10+ years, but this disgusting, badly made sandwich will cost them my future business. Whoever put this garbage out the door needs to learn some respect for both the craft and the customer.

I’ve been eating Js deli almost my whole life growing up in Cumberland. Now unfortunately only the Smithfield location remains. All of their sandwiches are great. I give 4 stars because I was quite taken back when I picked up my sandwich last week. Prices went up to $14.03 after tax for a sandwich. Granted they are big but I can eat the whole thing. Due to the price I had half for lunch other half for supper. Besides being expensive it’s a great local deli which has always been a northern Rhode Island staple. Thanks for the years of great sandwiches js, just please stop upping the price!

Had a quick meal here with my girl, and everything was just ok. The service was friendly enough, the food took awhile to come out it seemed. The pickle on the sandwich had no flavor and was just salty(don’t eat it). The chicken Parm sandwich was mediocre. All and all it was just a ok trip. Nothing I would care to repeat or recommend...

Small place with huge flavor! They have an amazing variety of menu options and the food was absolutely perfect. The staff were very kind and patient while I looked over the menu as I was a first timer. They offered selections to choose from since I was indecisive. I would go back everyday if I could afford to eat out that often. The food was fresh and it was delicious. 5 star service, flavor, and experience. Great job!
