Good Food. Whether you like the frilly decor or not is a matter of personal taste (it can be INTIMIDATING to guys), but the food is actually very tasty and beautifully presented.
Kitschy, but in a fabulous way.. I started going to Queen Mary about three or four years ago, I think. I can't recall ever being disappointed. This place is veeery feminine in a wicker furniture, floral draperies kind of way. If you look past the gaudy decor (they really should consider upgrading to something more tasteful) the service and teas are out of this world.
You are served your tea with sweet service in your own little unique antique tea cup. The afternoon tea service is really lovely, and features seasonal delights. I've always gotten the tea service, so I haven't much to say about the regular menu.
I discovered the beauty of white blueberry tea there, as well as the Yu Lu tea pot, which brews the perfect cup of white or green tea every time.
Good Food and Great Service. The atmosphere is always very busy, because everyone loved it just as much as I do. They don't cut corners when it comes to decorating, and the food and desserts are always top notch. The servers are very helpful and knowledgeable about tea, and I've never left disappointed.
Are you man enough?. Secure about your manhood--well then this is the place to demonstrate it by taking her out for some tea and cake, cookies, or quiche. You, on the other hand, might want a Shepherd's or pot pie. The food is great, the ambiance quintessential tea time (cheaper than schlepping up to the Empress in Victoria), and the pastries are fabulous. We use them to prepare cakes, to go, for birthdays and events.
Fit for a Queen. This really is the best place for high tea in Seattle, and I've devoted an inordinate amount of time to trying as many places as I can find. Afternoon tea is exactly that it should be--perfect little tea sandwiches like chicken salad with mustard and the requisite cucumber mint, scrumptious scones with devonshire cream and lemon curd, and dainty, pretty little cookies and tarts in a three-tiered serving tray. They treat you like a princess, even offering tiaras if you've, god forbid, left yours at home (plus king hats for the gents!). And despite the plethora of little girl birthday parties and baby showers, they take each pot of tea seriously. The tea menu alone goes on and on, and they'll help you decide from the array of choices. You can't go wrong with the Roobois or the vanilla black tea, witha flavor so rich, it could be its own meal. It's a little pricey (high tea always is), but totally worth it.
Tea rooms have a special meaning to me since I got engaged at one and I can't believe I have never been to this one in Seattle. As soon as I walked in it was very inviting, very quaint & very nice. It is cramp quarters in there with the seating, but everything else was divine. There was four of us so we all decided to get the afternoon tea special and it wasn't cheap. It was $72 each. I think the arrangement was more sweet and it was a little over-the-top with the sweetness but it was just ok. If I go back I wouldn't order this again but would order just a main dish. Need to experience once. The service and ambience was great. I just think it was overpriced for what you get. The tea was delicious. I felt rushed when ordering, so of course I just got my regular tea of choice. There was just so many to choose from on the tea menu, it was overwhelming. We got a couple of samples of tea while seated so that was a bonus. Very festive to have our girlfriends to get together for three holidays. I would definitely go back!
This is a fun place to go for a special celebration. The tea service was lovely. However, our server was not a happy person. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt because I don't know what was happening behind the scenes. I do feel for this much money though, you should have an all around good experience. The delightful owner came over at one point to chat which made up for the less than helpful server.
Overall it was a great experience and perfect way to spend a girls afternoon. It was quite pricey for what you get with the high tea and the service was a little slow, but I would still recommend this place and the experience. The restaurant was beautiful and the Christmas decor really brought out the feel of the season.
What a wonderful place to visit for a special occasion! The Afternoon Tea is perfect; the choice of teas, the wide array of sweet and savory bites, all of which are delicious, the lovely setting, the attentive and kind service, was all superb. I'll definitely be back and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a traditional English style tea.
Everything is perfect at Queen Mary Tea Room! I took my mom here for a daughter & mother bonding afternoon experience. 1. I will start with the vibe and interior decor. It’s very beautiful and elegant. I love the big flower bouquet on every table and the dinnerware is very beautiful. Love the special English country interior decor. 2. Tea tastes amazing. We ordered the berry and lemon grass caffeine free tea. Very good quality tea. 3. Food is good variety and all tastes amazing! Good value as well as they allow you the share one afternoon tea tower. We only finished 1/3 of the food. 4. Service is very tentative as well. Unlike some of the other comments, I think our server is very patient, responsive and tentative. Definitely recommend and would come back again!
WOW! We were celebrating Mother-Daughter Day and couldn't have chosen a better place. We had afternoon tea (vegetarian) and the food was delicious, which came with a pot of tea for each of us - our choice. The tea menu is unbelievable. Kat was our server and was very helpful and courteous. We can't wait to go back.
I gave the atmosphere only 3 stars because the restaurant is teeny-tiny. Tables are packed in there side-by-side. And it's very noisy with all the conversations. I imagine you would have a difficult time of it if you were claustrophobic or had mobility issues.
I’ve been coming to Queen Mary for over a decade and it NEVER disappoints. Mary herself is so kind and sweet and you can see her passion behind her restaurant. If you want a memorable experience this is the place to go!
Fantastic afternoon tea experience! The food was spectacular and the presentation immaculate. Great variety of assorted sandwiches, pastries, and miscellaneous treats (the little shot glasses of soup were a particular favorite). I also especially liked how little shots of various teas were offered a few times throughout the meal.
I personally tend not to be a huge fan of the cluttered Victorian interior decorating style, but I recognize it's an established thing and it was well-executed here: tons of tea cups and decorations everywhere.
Loved our afternoon tea experience here. Service was attentive and friendly. The food was very tasty and well presented and I drank my entire pot of tea, Afternoon in London. Delicious! The pea soup was very good, and I don't even like pea soup. The sorbets were very delicious. It was a great experience.
This is the best afternoon tea I’ve ever had. Such a cute and fancy tea room. Everything was nice and flaky and crispy. Sweet but not too sweet. Great variety of tea.
The service is very nice and helpful. I’m lactose intolerant and our waiter was able to get me a zesty apple sandwich and artichoke rye bread.
The tomato soup was dairy free!
Just beware that they do not have alternative milk available for tea. That would be my one recommendation for Queen Mary Tea Room. Just have some oat milk or something available.
EDIT: I went again two weeks ago and they now offer oat milk and almond milk!
