I never realized how much I'd miss places like this living in Philadelphia. Sure, there are bars here, but there is something about the atmosphere that the Penalty Box has that I just can't get here.
The food is excellent. Almost everything I've ever eaten here has been amazing. The wings aren't fatty, are fresh, and the selection of sauces is simply awesome. I've been to the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY and had wings all over Philadelphia and without a doubt the Penalty Box's wings are the best I've ever had.
Growing up in Taylor and Clarks Summit, I've had all of the "Old Forge" pizzas. Maxie's on Keyser was my favorite until they closed (sadly). The only pizza you can get near Philadelphia is the greasy round pizza (which I will admit has its place and can satisfy cravings), so I decided to give the Penalty Box a try. It was excellent and very "Old Forge" like. I guess I never realized how good the pizza was in the area until I moved to the "big city".
Also, I am used to paying more for pretty much everything down here, but the Penalty Box's prices are more than competitive. When my wife and I go there, order a pizza, wings, and have a few beers and the bill is under $50, we always chuckle; down here it would be $75 for half the food and a quarter the quality of service.
Plan and simple, if you're looking for a great neighborhood bar, low prices, absolutely amazing and affordable food, look no further. I wish they would open one near where I live now!
The food, music, atmosphere, bartenders, everything is so amazing here. Would highly recommend the truffle butter shot made by Harvey and his daughter.
Came here on a Friday night for wings! Got the fried pickles appetizer - homemade and tasty! Tried both the regular and boneless wings. Perfect and fried to perfection. The wings were crispy and full of flavor. The boneless wings are also homemade and absolutely delicious. Staff was friendly and attentive!
Been Wanting To Go Here For A While! So Glad We Did...Enjoyed It Greatly! Deep-Fried Italian Wontons w/ Marinara, Vegetable Pot Stickers w/ Thai Sweet Pepper Sauce, Cuban Sandwich w/ Onion Rings! Yum! And Portions Are Perfect w/ Great Prices! Staff And Atmosphere Fabulous! Definitely Will Be Returning!
I like dropping by for a couple sodas and dinner. The bartenders are great. The Hells Burger is where it's at if you like spicy food. It's great they're non smoking.

I was surprised that I love PBJ wings!! They're an unexpected treat with a nice crunchy outside, plump and juicy inside, perfect. So happy they went non-smoking!!!!
Met a group of friends for a small party. Thoroughly had a fabulous time. The food was truly great and the service was excellent. Would definitely go back.
I tried the reaper wings.They were crispy and had a fair amount of heat.But the star of the show was the fried pickles.
Good food nice atmosphere friendly staff very loud when filled with locals lol
