Quaint ranch style building on the water. I think it's the Kalamazoo river. Great service, great but limited food options and fun ambience. The chicken was breaded just right, not overly coated. We split one dinner and some sides. My wife's only gripe was there's no desert on the menu.
What a lovely, casual setting along the Kalamazoo River! Definitely sit on the patio and enjoy the view. Food suggestions: Try the pickle dip for an appetizer - I don’t even like pickles and I loved it. The fried chicken - AMAZING! Pick the biscuits as one of your sides - worth EVERY calorie! Enjoy!

Very rarely do me & the wife find a place where everything is delicious but say no more.
I ordered the chicken dinner regular (not spicy) with baked beans and biscuit. It was delicious. Best fried chicken I've had. Very plentiful too. Beans were amazing and the biscuit with honey butter (I'd eat a whole platter of them. Amazing). My wife had the shrimp and grits w/ coleslaw and biscuit. Everything was amazing. They have a bar to order a drink whole you wait and they were good as well.

The fried chicken was so good! The meat is juicy and flavorful and the skin is nice and crispy. The Mac and cheese was also amazing and so were the sides. The only complaint I have about is that it’s too popular! 🤣 be prepared to wait for a table or for takeout at dinner time because they don’t take reservations
I tend to write lengthy reviews, but there is no reason to do for The Southerner. The food here is excellent, the prices are fair and the cocktails are top-notch. Service is friendly and efficient. Be prepared to wait-this place can get quite popular during the summer months.
Great. Just absolutely GREAT! We were traveling through the area and wanted an "off the beaten path" place to eat at with healthy options. I was skeptical at first... but, our waitress was very nice and informative. Her name was Desiree. I had the catfish and it was WONDERFUL! The portions were great, the seasoning was perfect, just a delightful meal, all around. The bathroom is small and unisex, but it was very clean. Thank you. Next time we'll get the chicken! 😉👍🏻
Truly some of the best food I've had in a VERY long time. This soulful, friendly restaurant is an amazing experience from the second you set foot inside. I was so happy with my macaroni with fried catfish, along with my sides of green beans and biscuit with honey butter. Besides the delicious food, my favorite part was enjoying some refreshing drinks and having great conversation with our friendly & skilled bartenders. Would highly recommend to anyone!!
Genuinely in my top restaurants for all of West Michigan. We go pretty regularly and have truly never been disappointed. From the food and drinks, to the setting overlooking the river — it’s a great spot.
I’d recommend the Nana’s Fried Chicken and a biscuit. In the summer, get the Fitzgerald frozen drink!
Be warned, you’ll likely have a wait! No matter the night or time of year, it’s consistently busy, but especially beautiful summer nights! Grab and drink and hang out. It’s worth it.
