I was lucky enough to experience this place while staying overnight in Saugatuck, MI. The food was great and the service even better, we were privileged enough to meet the owner and chef, who gave us his recommendations. The asparagus cream was to die for and the pork flautas and beef tenderloin were delicious. The ambiance to this place was just great. Everything about this place was true great!
The crab cakes were perfect and the drinks were great! Our waitress was fantastic, we enjoyed talking with her. The chef was friendly and welcoming. Great spot. Only disappointment was the scallops, they were not my favorite... sweet and lacked some flavor I was hoping for. My fiancé got the whitefish with Brussels sprouts - that was amazing! Overall great place that I can only see getting more amazing.
Incredible. We're spoiled by our Milwaukee food scene but we were SO impressed with this place. The ambience was great, the food was incredible and the service was fantastic. (Love you, Mick!! 😉) Often we ask for advice from a server on the menu and get a half-hearted "oh everything is great" 🙄 Instead, Mick was able to give us frank recommendations that completely made our meal. The bread and mango chutney was so good, the asparagus and mushroom soups were excellent and the entrees were fantastic, too. The cold smoked watermelon was (as recommended) incredible, and the crab cakes were maybe the best I've ever had. Wish we could visit more often!
My husband and I came here to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. From start to finish, our experience was wonderful. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. I ordered the blueberry mojito at his recommendation which was delicious. We started off by sharing the Caesar salad and the pork belly, both were wonderful. For our entrees I ordered the berkshire pork chop while my husband ordered the 30 day dry aged manhattan steak. The different flavors they incorporated in the dishes were so fresh and went together perfectly. No detail was overlooked. The next time we're in town we will most definitely be back.
I almost hesitate to write this review as I'm afraid it will be difficult to then get in at this restaurant. However, that wouldn't be fair to this renewed Black Walnut. (It is NOT to be confused with the one that was there last summer with the same name which was not good at all.) I can only say that last night was one of the best dinners I have had ever anywhere, even Europe. There was not one misstep in any of our meals and were some fabulous twists on old favorites, such as the chef's take on the old iceberg wedge salad and mushroom bisque... simply wonderful.
1st time at Black Walnut and I highly recommend it to everyone. Try one of the hamburgers. Wonderful taste, high quality meat and bacon. Manager John was outstanding and very attentive to our needs. Off the beaten path on Griffith down an alleyway. Quiet, quaint atmosphere. We will return many times. You will not be sorry.
Everything was seasoned well and delicious. Our server, Mick, was great! The smoked watermelon salad was different but tasty. Great music on the patio!
This place is great! Great food, wonderful atmosphere, and the chef has a real eye for food. Dining here was like going to a metallic concert, except instead of a symphony to my ears, it was going on in my mouth! -cheers
Top-notch and professional. Johnny, our waiter, was awesome. Get the brussel sprout salad----AMAZING!!! The grilled char and pheasant were delicious.
They have a new menu Exquisite food. Loved the seared Ahi tuna starter. Great beet salad. Large and succulent scallops. Attentive service
