Review Milano Restaurant - San Jose

Liz P.
Milan was a delightful find for us through OpenTable. The ambiance, highlighted by the exquisite marble rectangular bar, truly stands out as the focal point of elegance in the restaurant. The service was wonderful, with attentive staff ensuring a pleasant experience. The food exceeded expectations, delivering both deliciousness and surprisingly reasonable prices. Milan's appetizers and pastas were delicious and authentic. The crab cake special, brimming with crab and minimal breading, was a standout for us. Milan is the ideal local venue for family gatherings, girls' night out, special celebrations, or romantic evenings. We're also looking forward to returning to enjoy the bar's television for sports viewing, and trying more fabulous looking dishes on the menu.

Decided to try a newly opened place. Was not disappointed. Overall strong 4. Kids spaghetti Alfredo was a hit for our little ones :) I liked the grilled octopus. Seafood bucatini were good.

What a gorgeous restaurant. The first thing I noticed was the bar area taking center stage. The seats are very comfortable for bar seats. Let's talk about the food. I had the pappardelle with braised pork... great, great flavor! I did feel the pasta was a bit thick for a pappardelle, but I still ate most of it...it was filling. We also had the Risotto and scallops: very well made and creamy! Panna cotta had specks of vanilla and great flavor. We will be back to try new dishes. We did talk to the owner about the menu, he plans to highlight dishes every so often to reflect seasonal items, but all with a Northern Italian theme.

Had some delicious food here! The Italian Greyhound cocktail was perfect, deliciously balanced. The deep fried avocado was delicate in texture and flavors. The scallops in risotto were so soft they were almost creamy. The cheese plate had some soft cheeses that were a bit mild for my taste, but the hard cheese had such a good flavor, paired with sage honey. The panna cotta was the best I've had. So creamy, not too gelatinous. The place was not busy on a Tuesday night, but there were some groups that made it a bit noisy. The noise bounces around in the room, but it was ok. The larger tables are on the left and the smaller tables are on the right, so we'll probably take the right again if we have a choice. The lighting is soft and relaxing. Definitely coming back to try more things.

The sister restaurant to the famous A’ Bellagio in downtown Campbell did not disappoint. They offer a different Italian experience with a new menu. We all tried different dishes and left impressed. The dumpling pasta was probably my least favorite as it had a mashed potato consistency, but the flavors were still great as a dish. Their bar and large tv were gorgeous and we are looking forward to trying their cocktail menu and watching a game down the road.

I have dined here on 3 occasions and have not been disappointed at any time. Fresh pasta and the seared halibut is perfectly cooked, complemented well by the side dishes while the chicken "Diavola" is a marvelous, spicy masterpiece and unlike any chicken dish I have ever experienced. Service is friendly and attentive. Larger dining rooms are available for family or company outings. Outdoor seating is available too. You will not be disappointed. A hidden culinary gem.

I highly recommend this restaurant! We had a Celebration of Life for about 25 guests there recently. Eddie was very helpful and supportive and made things go very smoothly without any problems. He went above and beyond and was able to get a microphone for us at the last minute which made presentation speaking much easier. Were were able to use a screen they had to play a PowerPoint presentation too. The restaurant was beautiful inside. I received several unsolicited comments from our guests that they LOVED the food and the atmosphere! I was told our departed loved one would have really enjoyed it and would be proud of the event we had for him. Juan was very helpful and he and the staff were very attentive and took good care of us. The food was amazing! The appetizers and main meal were all very tasty and well presented. (I ate too much but it was soo good.) We had foodies who attended and are quite finicky when it comes to food and they loved it! Believe me, they would have said something if they weren't happy with something. lol Many guests said they would definitely come back and eat there again and said it was a beautiful event. A big thank you to Eddie, Juan, the staff and chefs for making this a wonderful memory even at a difficult time. I will definitely be back!

A good refresh on the old Fratello’s. Food and drinks are great but on the expensive side for what it is. Best dishes are the fried avocados and Ossobuco which I recommend with the risotto instead of the polenta. The calamari was pretty disappointing, it was essentially a grilled squid in some type of grain, not very shareable and wasn’t great. Risotto could use a bit more Parmesan and needs to be a bit fluffier. Drinks were slightly watered down, could be shaken with less ice.

Absolutely delicious food, fresh ingredients, thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Prosciutto bruschetta, tender meatballs, fresh pasta carbonara, chicken and gnocci, octopus and shrimp pasta, and delicious desserts. Highly recommend if you havent tried this place, you wont be disappointed. Cant wait to go back!

Cheese plate, fried avocados, risotto and scallops, lasagna, and desserts were excellent. Main room is pretty loud when full of people. They should really add some acoustic treatments to reduce the ambient noise. Service was great. Overall, an excellent dining experience.

My spouse & I enjoyed a lovely anniversary dinner here and will definitely be returning. Nice to find an authentic upscale Italian restaurant in Willow Glen! Away from the Lincoln DT strip, there is plenty of parking and most nights they are open past 9 PM, (except Sunday). Helpful if your work schedule requires a later dinner. This restaurant is owned by the same family that operates A Bellagio in Campbell. Atmosphere in the bright main dining area is dominated by the stunning large marble bar. May be a fun place to watch a sports event with friends or enjoy a solo meal. It was a quiet Sunday evening so not crowded or too noisy. But I noticed another dining area off to one side that may be quieter when the restaurant is crowded (not in use that evening). And there is a small private dining room in the rear corner. The chairs at the tables were very nice and comfortable, padded on both seat and back. Cocktail specials reflect the seasons. We both enjoyed the refreshing Bellagio (gin with cucumber & lime). Perfect on a summer evening. Northern Italian cuisine was excellent and fresh. The cheese plate appetizer (Formaggi) offered three (2 soft and 1 hard) along with crostini, fresh strawberries and blackberries, sage honey and a house-made berry marmalade. A beautiful and tasty spread reasonably priced at $18. Our Caesar salads were crisp and fresh with a perfect dressing and parmesan ($15 ea). We followed with house-made pastas: Spaghetti Carbonara for me (authentic sauce of egg yolks & parmesan with thinly sliced pork cheek - $23), and Pappardelle Prezzemolate for him (San Marzano red sauce bathing thick noodles with porcini & ricotta salata - $24). While portion sizes were reasonable, the pastas were rich and we both took some home. We were too full for the Secondi offerings, so we'll have to try those and the Contorni at our next visit. Our server, Sedi, was wonderfully professional and attentive. She was knowledgeable about the menu, able to answer all our questions, and presented us with a complimentary panna cotta dessert for our celebratory dinner! It was one of the best I've ever tasted, subtlety flavored with pistachio. Still, my hubby needed some chocolate and ordered the deliciously fluffy chocolate mousse - $12. We loved the food and thought the prices were very reasonable given the quality and freshness. I see other reviews mention a kids' menu, so should be OK for families. Milan opens at 4:30 or 5 PM. Buon appetito!

Our first but definitely not last visit to this deceptively Refined restaurant located in a small shopping center with lots of parking. For the unusual, try the tempura fried avocado for an appetizer and creme brulee for dessert. Everything in between was equally outstanding...

Delicious food.. ordered the Branzino and Ossobuco. For dessert, we had tiramisu and chocolate mousse.... Both were excellent!! Our server Serena was awesome. Enjoyed the atmosphere... Will be back. Thank you!

Fine dining service and set-up without the fine dining prices. I’m glad to have found this place. I can indulge with good food and great service without being too frou-frou, only a tad. Our waiter was gentle and attentive. The appetisers especially the fried avocado was divine! Bread as always filled us up because we can’t help ourselves. The balsamic and olive oil dip elevated the pillowy bites of goodness. Pasta with oxtail is the bomb! Finished everything with tiramisu. I have yet to leave an Italian restaurant without eating the classic dessert. It looked like they had a couple of cute spaces for a small group celebration towards the back. Location is far away from the bustle of a busy downtown location too. Would love to visit and enjoy another stress-free dining experience at a future special evening.

Very similar menu to their sister location in Campbell...slightly different presentation. Our meals were good. Will definitely return.

Food was outstanding and the service was fantastic. We'll be back soon. Tuesday is not a busy day for them so it wasn't crowded. Only been open for 8 months.

Staff was friendly and helpful with recommendations. Specials were fantastic (especially the crab) and the papardelle was outstanding. Highly recommend.

Every once in a while, you have a dining experience that leaves you craving for more. That's exactly what happened during our recent visit to Milan Restaurant in San Jose. From the moment we walked through the door, we were transported to Italy, with the ambient decor and the welcoming staff providing an enchanting introduction to what was to be an unforgettable night. The menu was an enticing collection of classic Italian dishes and innovative takes on the beloved cuisine. My wife and I decided to start our culinary adventure with the Antipasto. The assortment of Italian cured meats, and cheese had us both swooning. Each bite was a delightful mix of textures and flavors, preparing our palates for the main courses. For mains, I opted for the Osso Buco alla Milanese - a slow-cooked veal shank that was fall-off-the-bone tender and absolutely bursting with flavor. My wife, a devout pasta lover, chose the Pappardelle al Ragu di Anatra. The fresh, homemade pappardelle combined with the rich, duck ragu was, in her words, "a piece of heaven on a plate." To accompany our meal, we relied on the sommelier's recommendation - a robust, full-bodied Barolo that paired harmoniously with our dishes, enhancing the dining experience further. However, the highlight of our evening was undoubtedly the enchanting array of cocktails that the skilled mixologist conjured up. The signature 'Milano Negroni', with its perfectly balanced blend of gin, vermouth, and Campari, was a delightful journey of refreshing flavors, while my wife was particularly fond of the 'Aperol Spritz', an effervescent cocktail that captured the essence of Italian summer evenings. To top off our extraordinary evening, we shared a Tiramisu for dessert. Layers of delicate, coffee-soaked ladyfingers, sandwiched between lashings of creamy mascarpone - it was the sweet, perfect ending to our Italian feast. It's not just the food and drinks that make Milan Restaurant exceptional, it's also the top-notch service. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, and their genuine desire to make our night special was palpable. Milan Restaurant, you have created a lasting memory for us, a memory adorned with delightful cuisine, exquisite drinks, and warm service. We're already looking forward to our next visit. To anyone considering a visit, take this review as a hearty endorsement of one of San Jose's Italian gems. You won't be disappointed! Grazie mille, Milan Restaurant. You have mastered the art of Italian hospitality!
