Nice cozy Japanese bistro with interesting eclectic decor. The food was good too, and the price was low-to-midrange. (Or maybe I'm comparing to Mountain View sushi prices, which are a little above average.)
I'm biased towards any sushi with avocado in it. And the "giant" squid was delightful (I'm guessing it's the local ika maruyaki equivalent). This lovely bistro is located in The Plant San Jose, a huge strip mall style complex with lots of interesting eateries, quite the happening hangout spot for Silicon Valley millennials.
My wife and I found a gem while visiting on our way to Seaside, CA. Ordered the Taiwanese Lasagna which was so unique and tasted great. Beautiful ambience with very friendly and attentive owner and staff. Can't wait to try the other fusion dishes. Very highly recommended.
I think this place has potential. Good ambiance decorated like in a night market in Taiwan or Japan. We came here to try their unique night market dishes (oden, yakitori, Taiwan fried rice, grilled squid, coddle eggs, milky way, etc.) and they were excellent. We didn't have the rolls or sushi/sashimi here since you can get them anywhere else.
This is a Taiwanese and Japanese fusion restaurant. They are fairly new in town with friendly staff. Food presentation is great. There is a wide selection of beer. Would definitely come back to try other things on the menu.
Update in 2020: we still come here. I still give it 5 stars. My favorite dish is the Mt. Fuji sushi!
Original post: We went for lunch because it was nearby and there was parking. I was having a bad day, so I'd be easily irked or disappointed. For a bad day, this restaurant was pleasant and I am glad we came.
For lunch I got a bento lunch special. I went for simple. The chicken katsu was light and crunchy. I also liked their salad as they used mixed greens and not the usual iceberg lettuce. I also liked their California roll because it was made well in the fact that it wasn't mostly rice. Sometimes inside out rolls are mostly rice but this one had a thin layer. It was peaceful and the service was nice. Also their oranges were really good. They were sweet and juicy and not so full of rind. They were good quality oranges and/or they know how to choose their produce well!
If you want bang for buck sushi, this is the spot! Came here on Monday since we were around the area and they had happy hour for sushi! It was 40% off all house rolls and they have a lot to choose from. My wife got the salmon skin roll, dragon roll, rainbow roll and Caterpillar roll. They were all pretty good for the price. It came to about 8 bucks per roll - which is awesome!. For me on the other hand, I got the tonkatsu ramen and it was just OK. For the price, I expected a little more quality and a little more flavor. The noodles and the broth were fine, but the toppings were sub-par. The chasu was basically a grilled porkchop and everything else tasted as if they were either from a can or package. Service was great and very attentive. The atmosphere was cool, although a bit confusing, not your average sushi bar atmosphere, kinda fushion modern - hipster design. Overall we had a pretty good experience. We were full and content.
Fantastic Service!!!!!
The pork katsu was amazing and so was the rice! The orange juice was generic, but the vanilla mochi was absolutely magnificent!!! Unfortunately i forgot to take a photo of the mochi :( My mother ordered a hotpot, that was nice too!
Coddled eggs were yummy. First time I had them. Sushi was fabulous! Well seasoned and wrapped tight
Very good and special food with very cute owner! Definitely one of my favourite in bay area. Really affordable also:3
Wonderful! Good is really good. Service is great. Try the coddle egg wrapped in bacon. The yakitori is all very good. Tongue tastes like a steak. Nice decor. All in all a great place. Also lots of happy hour food specials Monday to Thursday. Give it a try!
They had a very friendly sales girl out front for lunch offering free samples when I initially just wanted to see what the menu was all about. They just opened for lunch and it is amazing. Very friendly owner and staff with great dinner specials too at the moment. Check them out!
Best in the area! I've been coming here for a few years. The service has always been good for us. We met the owner when they first opened and enjoyed a wonderful valentine's dinner there. The quality hasn't wavered. No sushi bar to sit at, but the selection is top notch. Great decor and special rooms (with advance reservations). Perfect place for a date.
