Lady at the counter (who’s the owners’ daughter) was super kind. She recommended the blended mocha, which was absolutely delicious. We were visiting from out of town and she was kind enough to share some local areas to explore in SF. Thank you!

Lava Java owned by Annie, has been in my neighborhood for almost 25 yrs. Everything is reasonably priced, and the food that is prepared without a kitchen is comforting. Excellent chilled beverages and good hot coffee. Sidewalk cafe and limited indoor seating.

I stopped by and despite it being busy, the barista did a great job at prepping everyone's orders promptly. I got a croissant sandwich and it was perfect and comforting. I live next to closer coffee shops, but I think I'll start coming here more frequently. I ate one of the tables outside.

This shop doesn’t accept Credit card payment as I learned from a rather passive aggressive encounter with the lady at the counter.
I had ordered & went to pay, then was informed that they only accept cash.
She said it in such a way to suggest that I was an inconvenience for not carrying cash. It’s a pandemic, I’m not touching cash.
If you are going to get that much of a tone because someone doesn’t have your 1990’s form of payment, make your “Cash Only” sign significantly bigger than a 6x6 card that’s not in obvious view until the lady condescendingly points at it.
Thank you

Great coffee and breakfast bagels. Super nice owner too. Veggie and cream cheese bagels was amazing, had some nice seasonings and great flavor.

Perfect. Unfussy, solid coffee, friendly staff, and a surprisingly fantastic toasted sesame bagel.
