Review Lotta's Bakery - San Francisco

This is the second time I order a princess cake. If you “think” you have tried this amazing cake before, well I’m sorry to disappoint you but you haven’t until you have tried Lotta’s princess cake, which us just PERFECTION in every-single-layer, texture, flavor, everything everything you wish for is in this cake. Thank you thank you thank you for always exceeding my expectations. My love for this cake is thanks to you :) When I moved to the US I remember missing having a go-to bakery, that bakery that makes you feel like home, always has top notch pastries and savories that will satisfy all your cravings. I miss all of that until I found Lotta’s.

If you enjoy high quality pastries this is the place to go. This is an amazing place to get anything from wedding cakes to every day cookies for your cookie jar. My husband and I have ordered birthday cakes and even our wedding cake from Lotta’s. Their princess cake is the best cake I’ve ever had! Everyone there is super friendly, we go on a regular basis and we have been always impressed with everything we’ve tried.

For my San Francisco City Hall wedding I decided to Google bakeries near by city hall and the hotel we were staying at for the rest of the weekend. I wanted everything to be within a good distance for the sake of time. I found Lotta’s bakery from that search. I called to get information concerning their availability on my special day. I was very pleased after speaking with Earl, the owner of the bakery. He assured me that he could make a nice “wedding” cake and it would taste great. Let me say… HE DID NOT DISAPPOINT! It is the best money I have ever spent on a cake. Everyone of our guests as well as myself and my husband could not get enough of that cake. It was de -“freakin”-licious!!!! It’s was so darn moist and fluffy with hints of vanilla and coconut. The buttercream icing, like the cake was so damn good. It was perfectly sweet, not overly sweet in anyway which proved to very dangerous but o well it was worth every calorie. Btw it was a vanilla/white 8” white cake with butter cream icing, a very beautiful cake! I am a little late writing this review but I have already called Earl at Lotta’s bakery in San Francisco to thank him for adding this special layer of greatness to our special day! He is so kind and I cannot say enough about how delicious my cake was. Do yourself a favor and place an order for whatever he bakes because I have no doubt that it has to be the best you have ever had.

In search of San Francisco city’s best classic apple pie brought us to Lotta’s Bakery which is on Polk Street, a few blocks down from Swan Oyster Depot. We think we have a winner. The apple pie was as described by my happily satiated daughter: “a rush of appley sweetness that is tart and cinnamony encased in a flakey, buttery crust. Just YUM.” As well as the classic apple pie, Earl’s bakery serves a plethora of delicious temptations (see pics) and we ordered a generous slice of lemon Bundt which was stunning. I’ve never had a lemon pound cake that has more lemon flavor than this one. It's sweet and sour, dense and moist - utterly delicious.

The Mexican wedding cookies are the best great find on retro Artwork and posters. If you get a chance stop by and take a dozen variety cookies for $10

Got a chocolate birthday cake here the other day and it was delicious. Not too sweet. Very chocolatey. I dispise how every bakery I go to all have the same thing ....marzipan and tarimitsu..... this place had good old fashioned well crafted cakes at very reasonable prices. Please support this business. They deserve your patronage. Update Still the best bakery in town as far as Im concerned. Also you can pick up a gift while getting your Birthday Cake. They also have a doxen assorted wonderful, delicious , scrumptious delightful cookies for 10 dollars now. If ithe goes up by the time you see this review it's because of Bidenomics but I'll guarentee it will still be the best deal in the USA. As a native San Franciscan i can honestly say this place reminds me of the good old days before tech money and yuppies ruined it. They have the style and attitude that is reminiscent of authentic genuine old school San Francisco. A very lovely experience indeed.

I was driving through the city and wanted a sweet treat. I thought about heading to Bob’s Donuts. As I was walking over I passed by Lotta’s and decided to go in. Best decision! We tried the lemon meringue tart, the chocolate Bundt cake, and the peanut butter cookie. All so delicious! The owner was there with a long time friend and customer. It’s a super sweet place and a bunch of yummy, made on site treats.

Discovered Lotta's when I moved here in 2011. Lotta was my grandmother's name so I had to check it out (she was a baker). Immediately fell in love with Earl's Blackstrap molasses Ginger Bread. So happy to discover that he is still in business. I just moved back to San Francisco after being away for nine years. Good to have a high quality local bakery near by. There are so many things that I like and have missed. They will be seeing me on a regular basis. 2. Stopped by and got some of Earl's Blackstrap molasses Ginger Bread again yesterday and had a nice talk with him too.

We got a slice of their strawberry rhubarb pie, and I really liked it. My sister found it to be a bit too sweet, but for me it was just right. The crust is definitely a star in the pie, it being nice and flaky just how you want it. I would absolutely wanna try their other pies

Amy. I love to eat good bakery items. I consider myself very particular. Lotta's is my favorite bakery. I usually know what I want when I go to Lotta's, but I always end up buying three times as much -- and wishing I could purchase even more. Thank goodness I have a big freezer (everything I've frozen from Lotta's has defrosted fine and tastes fresh). Bread, cookies, cakes, pot pies, etc., etc. -- Earl's are the best. And the antiques part of the store -- run by Richard -- is lots of fun. Wonderful selection and very reasonable prices. Don't miss the pink flamingos.
