After spending months ordering mochas at every cafe between 8th Street and the Ferry Building, I love Cafe Madeleine's the best! The chocolate whip cream is the added bonus!
They have the best pastries here, I ordered a birthday cake for my boyfriend here and I wanted a cool design on it and they did it exactly how I wanted it. Really good red velvet cake, and I love their cupcakes too. They also have really good deli sandwiches as well. The staff are super nice and friendly. Very fast service, so if you come here for lunch, you're in and out. My favorite bakeries in SF.
Love this place! I had an excellent mozzarella and tomato panini and a chopped salad. Both days I arrived when they were clearly closing but the owner greeted me with a welcome “hello my friend!” And was happy to take my order.
I love coming here and ordering an Express Sandwich when I have to hurry to class. Everyone who works there is helpful and friendly. I rarely order deserts, but I have gotten a bear claw from there that was delicious. Oh, and the macaroons. And, the quiche is good also! And, the cheese sandwich with tomato soup. And, the cookies. Okay... I eat random items on their menu a lot!
This place is my SPOT before work. Everything they make is delicious.
- They do a thoroughly solid espresso, which I wasn't expecting.
- Best croissants ever. Best BEST ham and cheese croissants ever.
- A good selection of quiches in the morning, all of them delicious.
- Amazing cakes.
- Really good, unusual sandwiches, including a $3.50 grab-and-go sandwich that changes daily.
It's small, unassuming, and totally cute. Like something out of a french movie. Definitely a go-to spot for something fast.

I LOVE YOU, CAFE MADELEINE!!!
I often wish there was a Cafe Madeleine near me, wherever I went in the world. There was never a thing I tried there that I didn't like.
And there are some things that I've only had here & haven't been able to find anywhere else: like their Hot Chocolate/Mocha. They use actual Chocolate Ganache! As well as topping it off with Chocolate Whipped Cream, made in-house, with the same Chocolate Ganache! You can't get anymore richer & truer than that.
And I miss all their Bar Cookies: Lemon, Brownie, Pecan, & Raspberry!
And they also have THE BEST Chocolate Chip Cookie; the perfect balance of crunchy & chewy.
Even their Tomato Soup must be tried! It's creamy & has chunks of onion in it. Yummm.
This is a family run & owned business. There's no messing around in the quality here, be it from their products, or the people that they employ.
There is so much love & care here, you can feel it & better yet - you can taste it!
I could honestly gush forever on every single savory & sweet thing (because I tried them all) but have faith there's something here that will fill both your tummy & heart.

This place is feet from my work building, so I have the following things to say:
1: In a pinch, they sell a 3.50 sandwich "of the day". They make like 70 of them and just sell them really quick. They are small, but the ingredients are awesome. For 3.50, this is a real steal.
2: I got a little cake here once on a quest for cake. It was quite good. All the little cakes look super tasty, if little cakes are on your menu.
3: The regular sandwiches are quite good as well, and you can get a punch card for a tenth free sandwich. That's like 10% off, you guys. I got a ham sandwich with grapes in it. IT WAS DELECTABLE.
I tried a slice of their Triple Chocolate cake and it was delicious! I haven't tried their sandwiches yet, but it seemed pretty packed when I stopped by during the weekday lunch hour.
Their other pastries looked good too, and I'll probably come back and try them.
Mocha is rich, but not overly sweet. Get the coffee punch card if you come somewhat regularly!
