Review Ippudo Sf - San Francisco

A II Z PRODUCTIONS
Came here for ramen while visiting San Francisco and it was good enough for me to return a second time. Be aware that some of the toppings, like egg isn't included in the price. Check the menu and make sure you add everything else that you want in your ramen. The brother is pretty good and the noodles were delicious. Worth giving it a try!

A great place to enjoy authentic Ramen in a lively atmosphere. We ordered the Bushi special, Shiromaru and Akamaru Modern. The Bushi special has a thick broth so buyer beware. You may not want to order a beer as the Ramen dish is rather filling. Place is clean and friendly with communal tables If you don't mind to meet new friends. There is a bar in front in case you just want a beer or saki while waiting for your table. I say check it out.

Best miso ramen! So tasty, and perfect for the cold weather! The karaage chicken and shishito peppers were also great appetizers! Nice atmosphere, and great service. Looking forward to eating there again!

Love me some delicious pork buns. Their meat to bun ratio was spot on. Then the ramen. It was delicious. That broth is fantastic. It is apparently cooked for 2 days in a specially crafted pot creating a “double maturation process” which deepens the flavor. I didn’t think it was salty as some others have stated. I read about the possibility of MSG in the broth and I am totally ok with that! Uncle Roger would be too! Having different options on the texture of the noodles i.e. soft, medium or firm is a nice touch. Also had no issues with the service. Our server was lovely. Ippudo is certainly worth a visit.

Arrived for a saturday lunch at noon. It wasn't packed. But the place has a fast turnover so there's always seats. Had the spicy Karaka ramen and pork belly bun. The ramen was pretty spicy, but it's a good spice with surprisingly lots of depth and flavor. The noodles were thin and perfectly cooked. I was hyped for the pork belly but thought it was alright. It wasn't as soft as I was expecting, and there was mayonnaise, which seemed like an odd combination. Don't get me wrong, it was still good. Each ramen was $21. For 2 people, we spent around ~$70, including tips.

Excellent service. Ramen broth was rich but light, and the meat (chicken, pork) was tender and not dry at all. Cheesecake for dessert was also delicious. The pork, chicken, and veggie buns are also a must-have.

Pork bun: 10/10. Worth the visit just for that. Cocktail: 9/10 very creative, great taste. Lychee was a bit dry. Ramen: 6/10. Spice and style was lackluster. Noodles were not good. Service: efficient, unassuming (was there at an odd lunch hour on a Sunday).

11/2023: Absurdly had to wait for the whole party to be seated - why is that? We’re trying to use the table and order as much as anyone else would be… Service was good and pretty fast, though notably individual items came out on their own, not all together.

This is the first Ippudo i had outside of Japan. The place is high end compared to the ones in Japan. Im very happy to say the ramen taste is exactly the same from Tokyo and Osaka. This visit i had Akamaru ramen, very delicious 😋.

I remember my cousin recommended Ippudo in NYC but we never ended up trying, and then I saw an Ippudo right by my hotel so…why not! Decor is nice and I like the layout of the place. I asked for recommendations and was recommended the Karaka Spicy if I liked spicy (and I do), although I got it with the think noodles instead of the default thin. It was good. Presentation was nice and heat was just right. I enjoyed it. However, portions weren’t that big, especially for $21USD. Looking at this from the lens of a Torontonian a lot of the ramen shops I visit and review are on average $16-18CAD and a larger bowl tha the one I got today at Ippudo. With the current exhange rate, I could’ve gotten almost two bowls of ramen in Toronto. So the value category is where they lost some stars for me.
