extremely authentic and classy russian cuisine, lovingly furnished restaurant with fantastic service. we'll be back ❤️
I really enjoyed this place. The food was so good... So so good! My favorite was the stuffed cabbage rolls or Golubtsy. Although the Olivie salad and the dumplings were also delicious. Georgian wines were also very good. They only thing I regret was not being able to have dessert as the kitchen have closed when we had finished eating. I really wanted to try that Napoleon cake. It would also be nice if they had vodka... But I think they only have a beer and wine license. I'll definitely be back though!
Very similar to Dumpling House (formerly Eurasia), though more expensive and smaller portions.
The beef stroganoff was interestingly presented topped with puff pastry and served alongside kasha. The presentation reminded me of how Hong Kong cafes like to put puff pastry on things. It was delicious but I kinda missed having noodles to soak up the sauce.
Varaniki were the best pierogi-like thing I've eaten in recent memory. The sour cream tasted homemade or at least very thick and strong.
The pelmeni were excellent. Tasted exactly like the pelmini or momo or buuz at Eurasia, though you can't go wrong getting it here if you don't want to cross a bridge or go all the way around the bay. I didn't get an overcooked or waterlogged serving of this like in that other review; mine were perfectly al dente and moist but not soggy.
I haven't encountered the rude or unfriendly service some others have mentioned. It's a bit slow, especially when it's busy, but hopefully that just means they're making your food fresh to order.
The decor and presentation are a little old-fashioned, if that matters to you. It feels like you're in some grandma's living room.
My main complaint isn't their fault. It's just very hard to find parking in that area.
This Russian food restaurant is a hidden gem - the food is absolutely amazing and the staff are incredibly welcoming. The menu features a wide range of dishes, from hearty soups and stews to delicate blinis and caviar. I highly recommend trying the beef stroganoff - it's one of the best I've ever had. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, and it's the perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a night out with friends.
Note: this was our first time trying Russian cuisine. That said, we found the cucumber salad to be friggin delicious! We tried 3 appetizers, and they were all heavy and bland, using the same meat and sauce w different carb based deliveries. The sauce, like mild sour cream w fresh dill, pulled all the weight to make it palatable but also gave no flavor variety.
Fantastic modern as well as traditional Russian cuisine in the heart of The Richmond District!
A very charming restaurant with really welcoming staff members! Shout out to Emil (restaurant manager) and Tatiana!
Sooo good. Russian pel meni dumplings with lamb were top notch. the beef filled potato pancakes were also awesome. We topped it off with some dark Ukrainian beer. Friendly and fast service. Nice atmosphere as well. Highly recommend.
Im familiar with Russian cuisine and what to order. I started with borsch, golubtsi and pelmeni. Everything was delicious. I would have liked the food a little hotter temperature but otherwise great food. We ordered a red wine from Moldova, which was just a bit sweet and delicious. The server was nice and attentive. The decor was great and very interesting. For a Sunday evening, not that busy at all.
Really delicious Russian food 😋 I would definitely recommend, a little pricey but worth it. I will definitely be coming back!!!
V Russian with eclectic art everywhere. I liked the beef stroganoff a lot and enjoyed the dumplings served in a small pot.
