Such a wonderful intimate spot for Eastern German food and drink. Absolutely authentic to the region and different from typical “German” food because of the delicacy of seasoning, dishes not found elsewhere, and specific pickling brines. I tried their spaetzle with salmon and it was divine: lots of thumb-sized chunks of seared salmon so delectably succulent and sweet it rivaled dungeness—floating in the LIGHTEST spaetzle I’ve ever eaten, plus teeny (1/2”!) roasted Brussels sprouts, sautéed kale, and crisp-tender carrot plankettes, with *just* enough cheese to flavor but not goop-up the dish. Alongside came pickled white cabbage, spicy shredded carrot-apple slaw, and red cabbage in a different brine from the white. A glass of Zin went down nicely and the still water flasche was kept full. It’s a small place and I was lucky to sit at the side bar and observe the place feeling so cozy and cared-for; it was lovely, truly. It’s about 1.5 flat blocks from the 16th St BART station, which is a great option to get there. I will go back again, certainly!!!

The atmosphere is very evocative of Cold War East Germany from the moment you walk through the front door bearing a sign that reads "You are now leaving the American Sector." On the wall are portraits of Karl Marx, Freidrich Engels and V.I. Lenin. My wife and I were greeted and seated immediately upon our entrance. We started with the German cold-cuts and some good German beer. We ordered The Jaegersnitzel and the Rinderrouladen. The food arrived in a timely manner and was delicious! I had the best red cabbage I have ever tasted! We finished with an Apfel Streudel that was LOADED with apple and some very good coffee. It was a little on the pricey side but well worth the money! The staff was friendly (in spite of the communist motiff) and efficient.

Good authentic German fare. Service was sweet but not quite as available as you would like. I thought everything was delicious, thou some complained that the schnitzel was a little on the sweet side. Nice atmosphere. Good for date or family outing.

A great little gem in SF with the East German experience. The food is so good here, we always have a great meal. Good vegetarian choices also. I tried the veggie schnitzel tonight and it was delicious.

Love this restaurant! Been there twice in 2 months because it’s that good. The head waiter is so friendly and nice, service is impeccable and the food is just delicious. What I especially enjoy is the decor... simple yet cleverly curated. The chicken schnitzel and the sausage are amazing, and so is the pretzel!

Where do I begin?! Incredible dining experience with authentic German fare from start to end. The restaurant hosted a group of 8 friends and I, on late notice, and gave us the entire back room to ourselves. The pitchers of delicious german beer were flowing, perfect schnitzel was eaten, and singalongs were had. One of the owners kept checking in on our table, recommending dishes, and even brought us Underberg to polish off the meal. So happy to have such a wonderful, close knit, delicious restaurant in the Mission neighborhood. Food was top notch and service even better. Thank you!

This is definitely authentic eastern German food. Try the Soljanka, the cold cut platter, Roulade and Kalter Hund for desert.

I love German food so I was happy to spot this place on the map. We had the Hering, Soljanka and the Rinderroulade, all very tasty, but the cherry on top was the Apfelstrudel! So so so lecker! 😋

I loved the dinner, the dessert, and the staff! Will go again (although I hope they can get a second server... lady seemed like she was running the whole operation by herself).
