Review Sam's - San Francisco

Hard to last 50 years of you're doing something wrong. Reminded me of old joints in NYC I'd go to...good double cheeseburger but don't know why medium rare should be difficult in a burger joint with a flame grill. No pink it's anywhere on the rare side was still good but a lost opportunity for great. The fries was excellent. Says cash but the take cards. Omar was very nice at the grill. $30 for a t shirt. Smart way to encourage people not to give you free advertising

Running errands in the hood and I decided to stop by to grab a quick snack. Ordered the cheeseburger and a drink. It’s been a long while since I’ve had Sam’s even though I grew up in the neighborhood. Hands down one of the best burgers you’ll have. Its simplicity is the key to a great burger. Sooooo damn good. Reputation and popularity is well deserved.

First time here and ordered: Anthony Bourdain's double cheese burger with fries and beer. I'd like to try other items on the menu hence the 4. Gotta hand it to them, for an area known for Italian food, this burger joint is pretty tasty. Solid, filling, flavorful, and juicy. ~$22 for the set which would cost that much anyway at higher end burger joints. They were kind enough to split it in half for me and my partner which i appreciate. Top notch service and friendly staff. If I had a burger craving in that area, I'd check this place out again.

Finally had a chance to try “the best burger in SF”. A solid char burger at a very reasonable price…. But this can’t be the burger Anthony Bourdain was raving about. Oh and despite all the signs about Cash Only, they did accept credit card

I read about this restaurant online and decided the next time we're in SF, we'll dine here and try their "best burger in the Bay Area." Well, I think the best in the Bay Area is a bit exaggerated. Was it a good burger? Yes! But I've had better. The fries were ok. It seemed some were cooked more than others. The guy working there was really nice and attentive. A couple of things would keep me from dining here again; parking (it is San Francisco), and the food is served on paper plates. Not the sturdy higher quality paper plates, but the cheapies you can get at any dollar store. It's a very nostalgic restaurant with a lot of history, and it should ve appreciated for that.

It’s a small joint but no frills burger place. The burgers were freshly cooked and on charcoal. Soooooo good. We also ordered onion rings which were perfectly cooked & seasoned. So yummy! Service is quick too! They accept credit cards :)

Great burger, good price. Def lives up to its reputation. Seating is limited. Lots of locals ordering take away is a good sign.

Stopped in during a work trip with some colleagues after hearing this was Anthony Bourdain’s go to burger spot when in town. Did not disappoint as the double cheeseburger and fries reminded me of every excellent bowling alley cheeseburger I had growing up. Snagged the end 3 seats at the counter and almost immediately ordered. What came was a delicious double cheeseburger with perfectly cooked fries. Would recommend to anyone that likes a great cheeseburger. It was a hole-in-the-wall joint which added to the charm.

In town for the Dead & Co. show and had to stop at Sam’s Pizza & Burgers. We immediately had seats at the counter and ordered two Bourdain specials. Our meals came in minutes. Incredibly juicy, well made burgers with ample toppings. The fries were delicious, too. Such a wonderful small counter style diner. I highly recommend for a delicious bite!

One of the best burger joints still in San Fran after so long. Honestly, walked in by a local recommendation and boy to my surprise it was delicious 😋. All i wanted was a burger 🍔 and some old skul fries with a drink but got a beer instead. One of the best places i have gone to in a long time and will come visit when i come back. It is open late and it fills you up and takes card and cash 😁

Out day drinking with the wife and needed an appetizer before the next bar and dinner. Seen the Tony Bourdain quote/ sign/ ‘plug’ in the window for years and finally got a chance to try out the place. It’s kinda like if the Waffle House only did burgers/ fries/hot dogs and beer. The cook/server was super friendly and the food was good. The only downside to the experience was the space is quite small and you feel like everyone can hear 100% of your conversation. Since we were sitting next to a fun gentleman discussing our time playing GTA5 (because of a play-through video on the tv behind the bar)and we all couldn’t believe that the game came out in 2013… it was a fun lively discussion. If we hadn’t been intoxicated and looking instead of privacy, the floor plan could’ve been quite problematic. Anyway you slice it, glad I finally checked this spot off my SF restaurant bucket list. Cheers and ty for having us

Maybe the burger Anthony Bourdain ate here was a top 3 best burger in the world, but the one I received certainly wasn’t. Thin patties and just overall nothing special. Fries were also meh. But the atmosphere of a long-standing hole in the wall combined with food coming out fast helps its rating. Maybe I’ll try it again another time and be more impressed

Omg, best (double) cheeseburger I've ever had!! I was visiting San Francisco and googled best burger. Glad I picked Sam's. One night I Doordashed it. It came wrapped in foil. I didn't immediately eat it and when I finally did, it was still so juicy! I loved it so much that the next day I went to the actual restaurant. Comfortable dive bar and I totally understood why the food was so good. Simple place, focused on what they do best. I sat there and had a glass if wine and chatted with Alex, the bartender and cook. He was awesome to talk to and rocks at his craft. Got another double cheeseburger and french fries (which were seasoned perfectly both times) served on paper plates- you know this place is legit! Can't wait to go back to San Francisco- I will undoubtedly be hitting this place multiple times again!

Honestly, this place is BANGING. Really lovely staff, old school vibes and straight up amazing food. The hot dogs were great and the burgers are famous.

This is a small, hole-in-the-wall restaurant, with an old diner feel. The interior is a bit dated and worn-down, but has its own charm. The walls are covered with various currencies brought from the visitors to this spot over the years, adding to the overall atmosphere. Their burgers are cooked to order on a grill, giving them a great flame-grilled, backyard barbeque taste. Fries are also done to order, and are usually seasoned well and crispy, though nothing too special. Drinks are available via a soda machine, and beers/wine are also available. Overall, the cooks there are friendly, service can be a bit slow depending on the number of people there, but there's few other places to get a fairly decent burger at the same price point in the area. They take cash & card, despite signs saying cash only.

Good vibe, local, burger is cooked just the way you like it, quarter pound is the perfect portion! And they have an Anthony Bourdain special!

Anthony Bourdain of Travel Channel's No Reservations, The Layover (San Francisco) and now CNN's Parts Unknown is correct! Best fucking burger! The burger, fries and selections of alcoholic and non alcoholic in a nice old school setting is great. I ordered the Anthony Bourdain Special of Double Cheeseburger, Freshly cut french fries and a beer. FYI be sure to bring cash. ATMs from Wells Fargo, Chase along with smaller local banks are just a short walk away.

One of the best burgers in the city, and most fresh, perfectly crispy fries to go with it. He does 4 jobs all by himself and he is super quick and always friendly, even with all of the assholes that go in demanding things from him while he is literally doing everything. Being open till 4am is a major bonus. I have always walked out of there with a delicious burger, he never fails!! Advice to customers: show some respect, and tip the guy. He deserves both.

I moved out of San Francisco but whenever I'm in town I always try to come to SAMS for their delicious burgers. The burgers are hard to describe. They don't make you feel like you're eating the crappy burgers that you used to. Its more like a homemade version of what you may cook but better. Sam's Burger joint itself is very old-school and has been around for over 50 years and place definitely looks like it but that's the charm. Do yourself a favor if you want to good burger come here

truly a delicious burger and the conversation I had with tee was one I will not forget!

Food and service was great. Place needs a good cleaning though.

The burger felt very clean, not oily at all. After eating it I felt so refreshed. It's the kind of burger that doesn't leave you feeling guilty and feeling like crap after. The service is great and you cant beat the cost compared to other meals in the city.

The Biscuits and Gravy taste just like what I fell in love with back home. Best in the city.

As soon as I walked in the man said "hello boss" reminds me of my days in New York City. boss is good... and so was the burger!
