As authentic and pridefully-made Sichuan cooking goes, this is indeed one of the best places in the City. Maybe *the* best. It ain't really a dumpling or dim sum house and the menu is unique and largely exotic, but if you know what to order ~ the Dry-fried anything, Kung pao, Fish w/ chilis & Sichuan peppercorns, Crispy eggplant, or be adventurous ~ you will experience one of the best Chinese meals currently offered in S.F.

THE BEST DIM SUM IN SF Though service can be slower when they’re especially busy, you’ll forget about that after your first bite. I recommend going at brunch, the only time the dim sum menu is available. My favorites: • Soup dumplings (careful, they’re fragile but have the best flavor) • Pork shrimp shiu mai • BBQ pork rice roll • Shrimp stuffed eggplant (drenched in the sweet garlic sauce) • Steamed buns (veg and reg) • Pot stickers (veg and reg) • Deep fried meat dumplings • Cilantro shrimp dumplings I’m so sad to be moving away from such a special spot. This family owned shop will always have my heart!

Agreed with Matthew here. Definitely not a reason to give 1 star to a favorite restaurant. They’re trying to make this place look better for us to enjoy and you’re going to fault them for that. C’mon now. Not a fair rating. Mama Jis is outstanding! Can’t wait to see the renovations and to see you in August. That numbing fish won’t come soon enough!

You don’t give 1 star and drag down the rating of your favorite restaurant bc it’s temp closed for renovations until August. You give it 5 and you mention it politely to onlookers. Mama Ji’s is THE Chinese restaurant in this part of town. Superb quality and consistency. See you in August.

What a surprise, it’s one of those places that you stumble upon and fall in love with all the food. The fried rice, tofu, and pork were all so flavorful that we finished every single bite! More food stuff @vin.foodjournal

This was one of my favorite meals when we visited San Francisco. We got there right when it opened, everything we had was delicious. The fried tofu was amazing with a little spice to it and the tofu was soft and silky and the soup (Shanghai) dumplings were delicious. Pork Chow Mein was great, the noodles were amazing. The Chongqing chicken was spicy and delicious. We ate everything.

I like spicy food and eat spicy food well. When I lived in Chicago, I enjoyed trying various szechuan dish at a few well-known restaurants in Chinatown. At this place, we ordered very spicy for the fish dish and beef dish. The first bite was good. There was also a slight refreshing lemon taste to it. The more I eat, however, I realized that very spicy level of szechuan dish was not my cup of tea. Numbing made it hard to taste the food properly. There was also a slight soapy-like aftertaste. I couldn't finish the meal. We ordered a couple of dishes to go. Their shrimp & chive dumpling with vinegary dipping sauce was pretty good. Their hot and sour soup was also really good. The dumplings and soup were delicious like made from scratch.

Great Dim Sum and Chinese food with Belgian beer My wife and I had heard about the restaurant from a local SF friend. There was a bit of a wait, but it was worth it. The dim sum was very fresh and tasty. We had the vegetarian pot stickers (my wife is a vegetarian). However, I ended eating half of what we ordered. They had a lot of flavor. I didn’t care that there was no meat. We also had an order of the spicy fried tofu. Very spicy and very good. The staff was very busy running around table to table, only two staff working the front. But they were very attentive and we never had to wait long for requests for additional food or beer. And as I said, they have Belgian beer on tap. Good robust flavored beer to match the flavor-able spices in the food. It’s a great restaurant for us as they have a good selection of vegetarian dishes for my wife and great dim sum for me.
