The Buena Vista is definitely a must on your SF visit! I also love that they share their Irish Coffee recipe, and I make it at home in East Tennessee now with my souvenir glasses! I visited on a business trip, and I plan to make another trip to bring my wife, with The Buena Vista as our destination! I loved it so much!

Buena Vista in San Francisco offers a delightful experience with its must-try Irish Coffee priced at $14. The vibrant and touristy atmosphere adds to the charm, making it a great spot to enjoy a drink and soak in the local ambiance. The rich history and cozy setting make Buena Vista a top choice for those looking to savor delicious Irish Coffee while exploring the area. However, it's worth noting that securing a chair may take around 15 minutes, and on weekends, the line can be longer. The popularity of the spot speaks to its appeal, and the wait contributes to the overall anticipation of enjoying a drink in the bustling atmosphere.

I finally stopped by for this Irish coffee. For a little around $13 before tax you get what you see in the photo. Service was fast. Not sure why the place is called “buena vista” when the view is not good from there. However, walk up the hill on Hyde and dang! It’s gorgeous! Bathroom is pretty gross. And the restaurant itself is very narrow. Lots of old costumers (probably tourist) there with a sprinkle of young ish men.
The cool part is actually the cable car just parked in the middle of the street outside the restaurant. Bathroom is NOT wheelchair assessable. You need to go up 3 steps (?). At least for the ladies. Also! Parking wise I saw one car with a broken window. I opted to park a 15 minute walk away where tourist were less likely to park. Also! On another note! If you haven’t heard already.. DO NOT leave any luggage in your car, this is for the tourists who keep becoming victims of bippers (smash and grab thieves).

We had crab cakes, a lobster roll and Irish coffee. We ate outside at dusk. It was a cold and dreary afternoon so the Irish coffee hit the spot. It was our first time having one and it was very good. Tip- you do not stir the Irish coffee (I had to google it).
The crab cakes were very good especially with the dill sauce. The seasonal vegetables were good but there could have been more and/or some sort of potato side dish with it.
The lobster roll was good, but fairly basic (as far as lobster rolls go). The french fries were crisp and delicious and the coleslaw was m'eh.
The atmosphere outside was nice as the lights came on and the heater above us kept us comfortable.
Over all, it was nice to experience an institution like the Buena Vista, but we would not likely go back as there are plenty options yet to try.

A must in San Francisco :) the Irish coffee is an experience. Service is exceptional and prices not unreasonable for the area.

Stopped by for a taste of the Irish coffee for my husband’s birthday. I do not drink coffee so I was not sure what to expect but I can get into this. The reason why I have this location 4 stars instead of 5 is because I did not have the food. I am planning on going back and updating this review once I do.

We visited Buena Vista on advice from a city tour guide by Union Square, and we tried their breakfast before returning for an Irish Coffee after a bike ride. Our breakfast was hot and a perfect portion size for the crab omelette and country sausage benedict. The Irish coffee was really strong but delicious. Service is really nice and in the morning we enjoyed their patio seating.

Probably my 7th time here, a staple when I visit. I stopped in for the usual, an Irish coffee and dessert. However, I became distracted in casual bar conversations and lost track of time and only had one cocktail this time around. Check the cakes and bread budding. The display case is salivation worthy. The staff, as always, are upbeat, happy to serve and strike up a conversation. This is the second time I was informed of local concerts in the area as well as some other local happenings. What can I say, it's a staple for myself and many others for a reason. See you soon.
