Review Begoni Bistro - San Francisco

Took my family here for lunch. All the food items we ordered here we excellent! My whole loved it. The Peking duck was the best. Will definitely come back again. You can go wrong with this place. We noticed restaurants near by were fairly empty with no waiting line. This one was crowded and we had to wait 30 minutes. Well worth the wait!

Second time at Begoni for me and can with confidence say that this is among the best Chinese food experiences I’ve had in the Bay Area. Wonderful dim-sun experience with a variety of dumplings (highly recommend the chicken and shrimp dumplings as well as the shrimp noodle roll for sea food lovers) as well as wook-style dishes like the Singaporean noodles. Loved it, and recommend pairing all the yummy food with some jasmine tea for an even superior experience. Perfect for larger groups if you book in advance, usually not too busy but a great atmosphere!

The food was great. Service was slow and we were ignored for about 10 minutes after being seated until I asserted that we were interested in ordering. They only had one bathroom that is unisex and had a constant line.

First time in Chinatown in SF and got recommended to come to this restaurant from a parking lot valet. The restaurant was pretty empty when we walked in but the service was pretty average. Regular/typical Chinese restaurant that you would walk into. We ordered the XLB, won ton soup, beef chow mein, and spicy dumplings. I would rate all of the food an 7/10 but the won ton is 9/10. Nothing too special about the food but it definitely cures the craving for Chinese food.

The food here is fresh and clean. Not gresy or saturate in sauce or overcooked, but well prepared and presented. We had scallion pancakes that were crispy and delicate, not soggy or chewy were delicious. Along with those, we had soup dumplings and chicken wings for appetizers. The soup dumplings came in little aluminum tins that the dumplings stuck to the bottom of, so none of us were successful getting the dumplings out without tearing the bottom and having the soup remain in the tin. It would have been nice if the dumplings had slid out whole so we could experience them exploding when we ate them. They were certainly tasty and drinking the soup from the tin was a nice finish to the bite, just not all together as it should have been. The wings were great, and even though they were served with a couple of Szechuan peppers in the sauce, they weren't at all spicy, which was exactly what I wanted, so they were perfectly seasoned for me. They looked like they were going to be overcooked, but they were tender and not dry. I have no complaints about the wings, but if they had been taken out of the fryer, maybe 45 seconds to a minute quicker, I think they would have been a little more plump and juicy. We also had the string beans which were a table favorite, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The mains were the Peking duck and sweet and sour beef, which were both delicious and perfectly cooked. The Peking duck was expertly presented and came with the usual accompaniments of plumb sauce, julienne cut vegetables, and fluffy pillowy buns to wrap each delicious bite in like little savory tacos with a slightly sweet back end. They were fun and delicious, a definite recommend if you visit. The duck was perfect, moist, juicy, flavorful, and tender, and of course that skin.... that crispy, salty skin, exactly what you would hope for in a thin and perfectly crispy bite. The beef dish was tasty. I picked at the large slices of mushrooms that were left but didn't have the beef cubes, but my colleagues very much enjoyed them, I was just too full from everything else and didn't want to overeat. We had two starches, a beef, pork, and shrimp lo mein, and a shrimp fried rice. Both were pretty standard, but I really appreciated that the lo mein wasn't greasy and the rice wasn't over seasoned. As a matter of fact I added a little soy sauce to mine, which gave it the perfect amount of salt and sweetness, and I chased every last grain around my plate with my chopsticks. The wait staff were lovely, pleasant, and attentive, the perfect blend of helpfulness and background work while clearing plates and ensuring we had everything we needed. The overall ambiance was clean and bright, well lit, so not dark for a romantic dinner for two, but perfect for a medium-sized group to share plates and speak comfortably because the restaurant acoustics made it easy to chat without hearing the rest of the diners trying to talk over each other. Great experience; make the trek deep into the heart of Chinatown and enjoy the shops along the way until you land at this gem for a great evening with friends and great food. Beer and wine are abundant, to include sake, but no hard liquor. Enjoy.

Wow! I have no words for this restaurant. The service was superb (you would get your food 4-6 minutes after you have ordered). Atmosphere is also exceptional with a fancy interior. The waiters gave great suggestions for other meals and drinks. Unlike other restaurants, the chefs and waiters were actually passionate about their job. So, they would be happy serving you. In case you do not have a car or are a tourist and you don’t want to pay for an Uber, the old cable car in a great idea to get here. The price was not bad considering the quality of the food. I would definitely go again next time I am in the area. In sum, I had an outstanding experience here and would definitely recommend it to you.

Food was a 4.9/5, the shrimp/scallop DIMSUM was literally amazing 10/10, the Yung Chao Chao Chao faun was very warm and fresh, the chow mein was very tasty 9/10, THE SERVICE WAS AMAZING, my mom is from Hong Kong so she spoke Kantonese to the servers and they were so nice and extremely helpful, I totally recommend this restaurant for families and people who love good food. This restaurant reminded my mom of Hong Kong.

The service at Begoni Bistro is one of the best in the area. Customers must wait to be seated to enjoy their traditional Chinese cuisine in a fast paced environment. The food is delicious and will keep you craving for more.

A great place to enjoy some dim sum in Chinatown. We shared a pot of hot tea, 2 different dim sums, and the Mongolian beef entree. This was the first time my mom tried eating with chop sticks. She gave it a good try but asked for a fork to make her experience easier. The service was spot on with attentiveness and suggestions. The food was very good, and the prices were reasonable. Definitely worth visiting again.

Begoni Dim Sum is fresh & delicious. Atmosphere & service is good. It's a nice place to bring your date or treat yourself to Dim sum that is a cut above.

Dim Sum lunch. Table and bar service.

We searched for dim sum and saw that this place has great reviews. We went for lunch and sat at the bar. We had Chinese broccoli, soup dumplings and Shrimp shumai. All were great and I’d stop in here again.

I had the rex sole with mixed veggies and Peking duck. the sole didn't have much flavor and likewise its sauce but the portion's large. the Peking duck was an interesting experience. the half duck that I got didn't have much meat. my experience with Peking duck has been that the skin and meat is served and no bones. at this restaurant, everything is served so effort is required if you want skin and meat in the bun. ambiance is quite nice and service was fast and attentive.

Good for dim sum at night. Killer BBQ buns. Good Peking duck. Parking can be hard to find. Good attentive staff on the two visits I've been there.

After walking around Chinatown for awhile, we were ready for lunch. Craving a big bowl of noodles, we wandered into Begroni Bistro. It was crowded, but we managed to find a table in the middle. The restaurant was bustling with activity and the chatter of happy people. Our waiter was extremely nice and helpful. He sat down our complimentary hot tea and proceeded to answer any questions that we might have.
