Review Ppq Dungeness Island - San Francisco - San Francisco

I’ve been to the Richmond District PPQ many times on Clement and decided to try them at their newly relocated space on Geary. The food is as I remembered for a set meal for 10. We’ve always enjoyed the sea bass and crab and of course the garlic noodles. The rest is ok, if it were up to me I’d eat only crab! I didn’t particularly care for the five spice chicken and charbroiled pork that come with the set meal so I added a beef plate. And as they have done all these years, your set meal comes with a dessert of fried bananas with a big scoop of mango and coconut ice cream. (Note: this dessert is not included in the set meal for the PPQ in Millbrae!) After adding on an extra garlic noodle and beef plate (and some sodas) the final bill came out to $738, after tax. Depending on your level of spend, this is a bit pricey for 10 people (10 people, which includes 5 adults, 3 seniors and 2 kids). Half of our group had decent appetites and the other half not so much. Crab was annihilated along with the sea bass, papaya salad, imperial rolls and garlic noodles. Someone ended up taking the chicken and pork home since it wasn’t a crowd pleaser for us!

One word to describe this experience: impeccable. I mean it when I say the service, freshness, delivery of the food and quality were all impeccable. It was not what we expected. We were leaving Santa Rosa heading back to Palo Alto and decided to stop into this place, which has been on my list for ages. I wish I had visited earlier. We arrived late afternoon on a Saturday. There was an ample amount of parking and thankfully the restaurant wasn't closed. We ordered the crab for two. It came with the garlic noodles, dungeness Crab, Papaya salad, egg rolls and the fried banana dessert. Not going to lie the table next to us ordered the Peppered Wings, it smelled fabulous and we asked for an order. It was crispy, juicy with a nice kick. I'm so glad we ordered it. The egg rolls were crunchy, piping hot and delicious. It was a good size portion as we could not finish the salad. The Dungeness Crab for 2 was a big size and we managed to clean it up with the garlic noodles given we were about to burst. The server did an excellent job constantly refilling our drinks, emptying our bowl or crab shells and checking in on us. The service was wonderful and we are looking forward to returning in the future.

Came on a Tuesday night and there was plenty of tables. We ordered the family meal for 4 for the three of us and there was plenty of food. Everything tasted really fresh and made just right. The egg rolls were moist, the sea bass was delicious and the crab was perfect. Would definitely come back again to try the other style of crabs.

We ordered “Crab for 2” mix of imperial rolls, cabbage salad with chicken, roasted crab, garlic noodle and fried banana w ice cream 🍨. I like the crab 🦀 dish here. It’s fresh, well-cooked and flavorful. I poured roasted crab source over garlic noodle 🍜, and it tasted good. Customer service is attentive and friendly. The price is a bit expensive. But it is a great place to try out seafood options. If you come in group, you should make a table reservation for saving time. Next time I want to try steamed sea bass.

Had the crab for 4 people. It was a beautiful spread. Great service, atmosphere and food. The staff was awsome. Highly recommended

Great service and atmosphere. Food is good too. I gave it a 4 star because although food is good, it is a bit pricey. I would still probably go again though if I was in the area. Tried their crabs and lobster for 10 people package.

Delicious and a surprisingly good value. We ordered crab for 10 at the Geary Street location. The food kept coming and coming. The roasted crab was amazing, but even with the bib and lots of napkins it got quite slippery. Next time I’ll request more of the peppercorn crab.

If you like crab, this place worth to try the way that they cook. Garlic Better noodles are yummy and filling. Their salad , spring roll are tasty. My favourite is the steam fish, juicy, fresh and melt in your mouth. Definitely next time when I come back to SF, definitely will come back and order whole crab for myself 🥰

Came here Saturday night for dinner—my friends and I had no issues making online reservations for 7 via the Yelp app. It’s a small restaurant and a good amount of tables were filled up. The Dungeness Crabs here are delicious!! We tried three flavors: Roasted Crab, Peppercorn Crab and the Chili Crab. The top favorite was the chili crab because it was the most flavored with a slight spicy kick. The Dungeness crabs are fairly huge and a bit pricey—$75 per dish (per crab). The Garlic Noodles, Peppercorn Prawns and Beef Papaya Salad were also great! We were not a fan of the Kusshi Oysters—I love raw oysters but I would not recommend getting this. Crab Fried Rice was bland and full of onions—not a lot of crab meat either. Also, they don’t serve liquor, looks like just beer and wine.

The food is amazingly good, especially the peppercorn garlic crab. The meat is so sweet. This is the first time that I feel like the garlic seasoning is as good as the meat itself. Even though, we ordered enough food but we couldn't help order more crab and finish every last bit of the garlic on the plate. The string bean is pretty good too, sweet, salty and garlicky. The house garlic noodles by itself are a bit bland for me, but if you plan to eat it with other food it will goes well together. Five spice chicken is good too, but the crab took all everyone's attention. We also ordered Grill Tiger prawn which is pretty good. Imperial spring rolls is not bad for me, but nothing special. Service is great but could have been a little bit more attentive. Price seems a little bit high for the crab but it's so good so I can't complain.

The food was good but not exactly the best and the service and facilities failed on so many levels! We had reservation on Sunday as a group of twenty. Ten in our group comprised of seniors ages 60-94 y/o's and a few of us walked with canes. We were given two tables upstairs and no chair lifts or elevators were available ... somehow we made our way slowly up the stairs. The waitress was surly and clearly did not like her job. We decided on the $359 banquet for 10 and the waitress gave us a puzzled look and said "Which banquet? I don't know it by price!" WTH ... how many banquet of ten is on the menu??? She brought us a pitcher of ice water. We asked if we could have hot tea and she said there is no hot water upstairs? We asked if she could bring some up from downstairs. When she brought the tea to us, she slammed down each teacup, one by one, hard and deliberately on the table and left. When we filled the teacups, we noticed the lack of lazy susans on all the banquet tables... Try passing those hot cups of tea around! The food came and the lack of lazy susans made passing around the big plates of food around very difficult, too. Luckily (or unluckily) the portions weren't that big but being seniors, the entrees were still unwieldy. Service was slow and our order of rice was given to the wrong table. The insult to injury was the automatic 18% tip for the disrespectful service we received! The person taking reservations should be more mindful that large groups usually include seniors or the handicapped who may not be able to use the stairs ... we would have seeked another venue if we knew that ahead of time. And no lazy susans on large self-serve banquet tables for a restaurant of this class is simply ridiculous!

In the heart of SFO lies this modest but authentic speciality restaurant serving Vietnamese food. Being seafood freaks we were to stick to our domain and there came the option of dungeness crabs on the menu & we jumped for it. We decided to go for crab - meal for four with two varieties of crsb preparations, noodles, green beans concluding with a mini size desert. Crabs...one curry cooked and other baked, green beans and noodles. Fabulous food & combo. Highly recommended with 5 stars for food quality, portion & value for money.

Foods great don't recommend sitting way in the back room less attention to service from staff because there consecrated on the front of house but overall food was good

Thank you PPQ staff for accommodating 10 hungry people at 948pm last night (12 mins before closing). You just don't know how much you guys satisfied our cravings for your awesome crabs . Thank you to the kitchen staff for cooking last minute even if you were already cleaning when we came in. Thank you for patiently waiting and staying OT until we were done eating. Your food and the staff is amazing ! Thank you thank you You guys totally rock This is the reason why we keep coming back !!!

I would have given 5 stars but I personally feel that they are very overpriced considering the crab is frozen. The garlic noodles were ok once you added something to them. Thanh Long price without Thanh Long quality. I would go back tho only during crab season.

My favorite Vietnamese crab place! Tried the Spicy Crab for the first time on this visit - it was bomb. If you like tofu, the crispy fried tofu is awesome.

Nothing like Thanh Long, it was somewhat disappointing. Not that it was completely awful, it's just that it was not great. Highly over rated, and the service was way under par.
